Later McCheese. Ducks/Preds Conf. Final. Should be a good one.
-
St. Louis could have won a Cup or two had Cujo stuck around. With a past his prime Grant Fuhr and Jon Casey, they def weren't winning anything. We can hope. Lol Of course it would be the Pens who take over the title of last team to win back to back Cups from Detroit. Maybe the Wings shouldn't have blown it in 2009 after going up 2-0. Man, losing that series still bugs me.

The Wings don't need Bishop. He's a UFA who will demand big money. Two goalies already eat $10 million of cap, and goaltending isn't a problem area. Get them some real D and all will be good. Good on Nill realizing their big money tandem was s*** though. Now he can protect Bishop and leave Lehtonen and Noemi exposed and hope Vegas takes one. They may go for Lehtonen. Then he can trade or buy out Niemi. That's if Bishop wants to sign with Dallas. If he bolts July 1, Nill may have a mess on his hands. especially if Lehtonen is claimed.

Caps shut out 2-0 in a Game 7 in their own arena with a trip to the Conference Final on the line. Now that's clutch. What a joke that team is. This was the best roster they've had since they became "contenders" again. If they can't get it done with that roster, they never will. Damn Pens. Only Ottawa stands in their way of another trip to the Finals. I see them lasting 5 games. The Pens may just repeat.
-
Yeah Lundqvist's best option is a trade to a top contender, either offseason or deadline deal. Deadline seems more realistic though. Pull a Bourque. No Cup with Boston in his long career there. Traded to the Avs, got his Cup and retired. Probly be hard for him to leave NY, but you gotta do what you gotta do. He should honestly have a Cup or two by now, but the team in front of him didn't want it as bad I guess. I remember how pissed he was losing that 2015 Conference Final to Tampa in 7 games smashing his stick over the crossbar.

Would be cool to see the Sens make the Finals, they're probably the only Canadian team I'd like to see win the Cup. I dunno if they can take out the Caps or Pens though. Yeah I didn't watch much either, but from what I've read, he was shaky. The Rags needed him on top of his game to take Game 6, and he didn't show up.
-
Another year without a Cup for Lundqvist. Have wanted him to win one for a bit now, and it's usually his team that lets him down. Not this season though, the loss was just as much his fault. I figure his window to win one is closed as a Ranger. He's gonna be 36 next year and his play is declining. No longer the difference maker they need him to be.

Damn Capitals are gonna fail again, and this is the best roster they've ever had. If only Holtby could carry his Vezina winning play over to the playoffs. Flower is outplaying him, and he would be on the bench if Murray wasn't injured. The Caps need to figure out their goalie situation in the offseason if they can't turn this s***show around, which seems kinda stupid since Holtby is last years Vezina winner and one of this years finalists. Just can't take the pressure I guess. He looks nervous sometimes, and sometimes spaced out, and often out of position and playing too deep in his net. Trots should toss his backup (not sure of his name) in there next game. Can't be much worse, and maybe he'll actually take a chance to win a Cup seriously. Wouldn't be the first time a backup has stolen a series back.

I just gave that mock expansion draft tool a whirl. Vegas will pretty solid on D and in goal right away. Their forwards won't be as solid, but still pretty damn good. I'm sure they won't be going through the growing pains that SJ, Ottawa, Tampa, and Columbus went through. No way they make the Finals as fast as Florida did though. Probably a Wild type situation, but better.

This move sounds like a bit of insurance with Howard being exposed, and questions with Mrazek and even more so, Coreau. If Howard isn't claimed by Vegas, or maybe even if he is and a solid NHL backup is available, then this guy will start the season in GR and battle with Coreau for the starting job and first call up if/when needed. Hopefully though, this move pushes Petr to be better next season. He must know quite a bit about this guy, and if he really is that good of a goalie, then Petr will know he needs to take the starting job seriously or be pushed out.

I'm certain the Blashill Bingo Wheel of Doom will be in full force again. The guy can't put correct lines together, and when he spins the wheel and actually lands on a good combo that gels and produces, he just ends up splitting them up soon after anyways. Nielson was a bad move. He's not a difference maker although he's paid like one and has a damn NMC. He compliments difference makers like Tavares. Wrong signing at the wrong time. Even though I think he'd waive that NMC in a second to get out of a situation he wasn't expecting (missing the playoffs and being on a rebuilding team), no one will take that contract, except maybe in his final year as a deadline deal to a top contender. But, if he ever somehow tries and succeeds to get Tavares to come to Detroit as a UFA next July, he'd be worth it. Lol

I get that. He is a guy that would be good to keep around if he wasn't forced to play roles above his abilities, making him burn out quicker, like what happened with Kronwall. He also makes too much for a second pair guy. But your right, he's one of the best we do have, which doesn't say much. But if it came down to losing him or Jensen, I'd pick him. The Wings D is so bad that Kronwall logs 20 min a night in ice time on dead knees while statistically being a defensive liability. Does that make any sense? A guy who should be on LTIR or officially retired with limited mobility issues and is a liability every time he steps out there logs a period's length of ice time a game? Mind blowingly stupid.

The media in Toronto has a way of making great players who are naturally shy or somewhat antisocial very uncomfortable with their incessant interviews and cameras in their faces after they do something as small as take a s*** and they end up wanting out.
-
Obviously not all the vets would be moved. Just put it out there that they are available, and listen to any and all offers. Basically, no one off limits besides Z. Any of the others are replaceable and some grossly overpaid. i can't really name one vet besides Z that isn't. DeKeyser? Nope. Howard? Nope. Nyquist? Nope. Helm? Lol OK, I'd probably keep Tatar too. The Wings are not a team that with some good drafted players would be great again. The veteran core is pretty half ass at this point. Gotta ditch some of those contracts Holland gave out to guys that don't and are incapable of earning.
-
Yes I'm aware.
-
Yeah I think we'll get someone decent, but I dunno if they'll pay off right away. In Couture's draft year only McDonagh(13), Shattenkirk(14), and Pacioretty(22) really stand out in the players drafted after him, but still some decent names there like Perron.
-
Hahaha f*** man. But yeah, it's not too bad a list. Not gonna find a Couture or Trouba in this draft though.
-
Agreed. NO vets should be off limits besides Z. Put fire sale tags on all of them, and as they're moved (more like huge if), promote one of the kids. Kenny still has this thought he can't seem to get out of his one track mind, which is playoffs. This is not a playoff team. Blow it up as much as you can while you can. Team is already on the outside of the playoff bubble, so why not bottom out and do the rebuild right? Jimmy D is on board, but Holland has to be Holland.
-
Hahaha Cechmanek. Another failed Flyers goalie. The list is long.
-
One number off from 1st and 2nd, but ended up 9th. That really does blow. Oh OK. Close enough. That 1990 draft sure was stacked. Brodeur went 20th.
-
Agreed. 9th pick straight up for Trouba or Hamilton or similar. If teams want more, keep the pick. It's the Wings first top ten pick since when? The 80's? Weak draft or not, that's worth a lot to the franchise entering a rebuild stage. Yeah, the odds of them getting the 2nd and NJ the 1st were very small. I don't think two teams have moved up that much in a draft in quite awhile.
-
Yeah Holland will pick some guy no ones ever heard of that would still have been available in the third round, totally ignoring the BEST AVAILABLE REGARDLESS OF POSITION. Wings need defence, but that doesn't mean they HAVE to draft a d-man. Take the best you can get. If it's a forward, so be it. Use the player in a trade for what you need.
-
Hahaha yeah it sucks. 7th to 9th isn't bad though. Really sucks being Colorado and Vancouver each dropping to 4th and 5th from 1st and 2nd. Lol
-
9th overall. That sucks. Oh well, hopefully we can draft a gem. Cant believe NJ's luck. Philly and Dallas had a horseshoe up their asses too it seems. Really happy that Vancouver dropped to 5th after their blatant tank. Same with Colorado dropping to 4th. Their record was so abysmal it reeks of throwing in the towel from October on. Why couldn't these results have happened to Edmonton a couple times they won the four first overalls in like six years? At least one was a bust, one was traded, Nuge is solid, but hardly a star. They scored huge with McDavid though.

Kucherov says some Tampa players "got their money and stopped working"
chaps80 replied to Wing Across The Pond's topic in General
I agree with this, but Nashville was gaining momentum. I remember after one of their goals in Game 4 (may have been the one that got Hasek pulled permanently), The players on their bench were hurling insults at Hasek, saying he was an "old f***" and he was finished and to retire. They knew he was slipping and far from what he used to be. He used to intimidate opponents, but the Preds weren't intimidated. They just laughed. I'm glad Babs made the change to Ozzie when he did, and kept him there. Many coaches would have started Hasek next game.
