    Money has nothing to do with where he plays, he will play where it´s best for his development, that´s all he cares about, as AtlantaHotWings said ´getting to the next level´

    even he he could make the wings as a third pair d-man. I think playing a more prominent role in GR with less pressure would be the better fit.

    Kronwall Officially Announces Retirement

    Seider came over to NA with the mindset of staying, already played men´s hockey and he is able to compete strengthwise. edit:We just have to wait and see how good he really is

    yeah, it looks a bit like the young guys want to be paid for potential and as long there is one dumb enough GM to do so, the other GM´s will follow like sheep. I mean the last few years the salaries have gone up significantly, but 7.15 for a player who has 2 seasons under his belt with 65 and 47 points? What would he have cost if he had scored 65 points again, $8.5M? Boeser is comparable to Keller point and gamewise and $7M+ will put Vancouver in serious trouble, will be interesting to see where they settle on shorter term contracts

    https://www.nhl.com/news/coyotes-forward-clayton-keller-signs-eight-year-extension/c-308877352 Will that set a price for players like Tkachuk,Boeser,etc? Vancouver roughly $6M in cap space, Calgary $7.7M with three players to sign, Jets have to sign 4 players including Connor and Laine with $16M. They all look like teams in cap trouble. Will be interesting to see what is going to happen on the trade market once the contracts are signed...

    Prospect Tournament 2019

    The NHL Prospect Tournament returns to Traverse City for its 21st season, running from Friday, Sept. 6 through Tuesday, Sept. 10 only two weeks away is there some sort of training before the tournament, like our prospects meet and train a couple of days earlier?

    Prospect Tournament 2019

    probably Ras and Cholo don´t take part because of NHL experience and in Svech´s case, they might just be careful. As for Gylander, with goalies they take time and we have him, it looks like they want an extented look at Fulcher and Larson + 2 probable additions to our goalie pool. Soderblom left a good impression at the DC, but I didn´t really took notice of Berglund. I think Grewe is already playing in the first team, whereas the other two seem to be still in juniors. That´s why they might be available.

    I don´t see Cholowski starting the season in Detroit. Two reasons, first his defensive game and second our given d-men. Cholo is waiver exempt and I bet he starts in GR to hone his defensive game.

    It is not understandable why he´s still unsigned, seems like the agents and GM´s all over the league are playing a bit of a waiting game. as for the trade offer, I can´t see them taking it. It would leave a big hole in their defense and D prospect might not be enough. Either a three way trade or we would have to sign Gardiner to a reasonable contract and throw him in, but I don´t really see that happening

    Prospect Tournament 2019

    Yes, I´m from Germany. Without his injury(23 games) he might have been on the second pairing for half of the season plus playoffs in Mannheim. He started right where he left before the injury and his game picked up the more important the games became and was almost mistake free in the playoffs and the WC. He had his 18th birthday the day before game 3 of the semifinals in the DEL. He is praised by his teammates for his work ethic and positiv attitude. Although I´m a bit biased I truly believe he could play a third line role in Detroit, but I don´t think that it would be good for his development. He needs to play in all situations, logging heavy minutes, so I see him at least on the second pairing in GR. I´ve seen a lot of d-men playing for Detroit over the last 25 years, but only a few had that implicitness/naturalness ( I´m looking for the right word...) in their game as he has. With his smooth skating and his awareness what´s going on around him, he looks more than ready for men´s hockey. My prediction/hope is he is playing on the first unit in GR at midseason the latest and will have a chance to get the first taste of NHL hockey after the TDL.

    Prospect Tournament 2019

    Bergmann stayed in Germany taking part in Mannheims preseason, as Seider did. Seider opted to go over early and get accustomed to time change, new surroundings and new teammates, whereas Bergmann had the complete preseason and 2 Games for Mannheim in the CHL (2g1a) and heads to SJ today I think.

    Prospect Tournament 2019

    I was hoping for Albin Grewe to come over again. I watched videos of him and he might be another Bert. This kid looks real good. A you sure about the europeans? Lean Bergmann, another Mannheim player, is coming over to SJ TC, so I was hoping a few europeans would be in the tournament. Kivenmaki and Berggren would have been worth another look. Kivenmaki left a good impression in development camp. With the ´might be´ roster I´m quite optimistic going to Traverse City. Thanks for your effort, big thumbs up

    Prospect Tournament 2019

    f****************ck, I mean the waiting for the season to start is tough enough, but why on earth do we have to wait so long for the damn prospect tournament roster? I thought we´d behaved well and deserve something to discuss about...

    2020 Draft Thread

    I will will do some advertising for one of my countrymen, ranked #10. https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/348134/tim-stutzle Another 17 yo playing for Mannheim, he scored in each of Mannheims two road wins last week in the CHL(european hockey cup). He plays center and is one of the best skaters in his draft class.

    Howard = Average

    Well, I don´t see Howard as our goalie of the future, but I don´t think his position is our biggest problem, he is good enough until something turns up. No need to force something, that just puts the price for the next goalie up...

    Howard = Average

    I don´t mind spending, there just has to be a proper return. We have Howard and I wouldn´t mind keeping him for another 2 or 3 years unless there comes an opportunity you have to take. Jimmy proved to me that he is willing to do whatever it takes to be a Red Wing, he changed his game and came back stronger and I don´t think he is done yet. For the around 15 goals a star goalie would potentially save us, we could spend the around $4M extra cap space in a proper upgrade on defense which might save us as many goals or an upgrade on the top 2 foward lines where we probably score 15 more . The effect of the money would be pretty much the same, but as I stated earlier the problems of having an injured or out of form star goalie ar bigger than an upgrade on either defense or offense. We have 2 good goalies and with better defense the discussions around them will stop anyway.

    I hope that they release the prospect tournament roster on monday. Gives us something to talk about. are zadina, cholo, rasmussen etc allowed to take part ?

    Howard = Average

    I actually spend quite some time thinking about the Roy plan and I don´t like it tbh. Problem one there are not that many Roys out there. Problem two your team might get a bit careless because they think ´he will bail us out´ and problem three, something Montreal can sing a song of, if your Goalie is injured you are basically f+cked. As for the $6-8M range, is there a lot of diffence between Howard and Lehner? With Goalies you can never tell and I think it´s careless to rely too heavily on them. Howard and Bernier as a Goalie duo in Tampa, what sort of numbers would they have there? $6M would be my absolute max for a goaltender, you still need money for a decent backup. When you´ve already spend $10M for your #1 how much is left for #2?
  24. ely s

    Howard = Average

    I´m not a big fan of spending big bucks for a goaltender. I was ok with Howard the last years and will be ok with him the next two years. To me he is real solid and sometimes close to spectacular. There were plenty of games where he kept us in the game and really often was left alone after bad outlet passes. His numbers are, for a defense like we had the last years, absolutly ok and I don´t think a Bobrovsky would have won us like 10 extra games. Howard on top of his game is all you need and to get that for $4M per year is totally fine with me. The "high end" goalies get $10M per year, I prefer a Howard and $6M in cap space for another quality player

    Yzerman vs Fedorov. Which one was better?

    It´s hard to say who was ´better´ because they both were really good in their own way, they both took profit of the other one, just because of the matchup options. they were just a great 1-2 punch. If I had to choose who I want on my team it would have been Stevie Y. Fedorov was probably better, but he was lacking heart imo. The team first mentality Stevie had, the passion and will gives him the edge.
