apart from a player we most likely will never see wearing the winged wheel, who is out there in the range of the #10 to #15 ? because I think that is more likely to happen than the 1OA...
-
if I understand it correctly, you can use the LTIR money right away, but are only allowed to be 10% over the upper limit, which must be $89.65M then, to start the season. So in Toronto´s case they can´t appy the full LTIR money at seasons start because hey have $13M but can only use $8.15M. That is one reason why they can´t sign Marner before the start of the season, another problem will be the fact that the $2.25M LTIR money for Hyman cannot really be counted because he is supposed to be back in October. edit: assuming Marner would get an $11M contract
-
Toronto is atm not able to sign Marner. Even with the $13M in LTIR they have only $10M left for him and I doubt that that is enough to sign him. My guess is that he is looking for at least Tavares money. apart from that I agree with you that there is no sense making reason to not get them signed

Depends on what you mean with competitive. Will we have a roster like TB had last year ? no. did it help TB ? no. I think this year we have a chance to be at least close to the playoffs, because I think we will see good seasons of players who are already written off by a lot of people here and the continued growth. At the TDL we will gather a few more picks. On Draft day 2020 we will sit there with at least 11 picks, around 20 of our better prospects, a full year of evaluation of what we have for SY and a team that hopefully has given their young guns opportunity to grow. Now you look for teams with upcoming cap problems to fill needs, you can´t fill from within, with picks and prospects. So come October 2020 you have a team able to reach the playoffs with still lots of talent in the pipeline after one year. Our salaries are in control and we could trade for meaningful players, but the urgency for one of these trades isn´t really there in the moment imo. We need a complete overhaul of our defense and we can´t do that through trades and UFAs alone. SY wants to see with his own eyes what we have, he wants to know to judge properly. Sure it would have been great if for example Trouba would have found his way here, but hey we have Hronek and Seider and probably they turn out as good. So check what you have and figure out what you need. In 2021 we will have even more young players pushing for jobs and we will be in a very comfortable position in being able to afford to trade good prospects/players for real upgrades of our roster. There is no advantage in trying to draft high this year imo. We want to finish our rebuild and not stretching it. Our team needs wins more now than high picks. You need confidence and you get confidence through success not tanking. Look at Edmonton they instilled a losing environment and now with 2 starplayers? still losing... It doesn´t really matter if it´s the 6th or 15th pick, in terms of what you get, but ten more wins gives the whole team confidence and that is what matters.

I really believe that Seider is playing at least a few games this year in Detroit, we will see. Here is some info on our 2019 draft picks, a lot to learn and love about them.
-
He is coming over to prepare for TC. I don´t know where he is going to live and train before TC. "Ich will mich nicht irgendwann fragen lassen müssen, warum ich es jetzt nicht unbedingt versucht habe", sagte Seider am Montag in Mannheim. "I don´t want to be asked some day, why haven´t I tried hard right away" Seider said on Monday He is basically just saying that he wants to stay in NA (Wings or GR) instead of going back to Germany for another year after TC
-
I read an interview with Moritz Seider, where he said that he will come over to Detroit on the 12th of August and that he plans to stay. There are no articles saying that in NA so far, but he said so at home. He would only go back if the Redwings want him to.

sucking sucks today, but not tomorrow. in the moment we have on RD Kaski,Bowey,Hronek,Seider and Lindstrom, on LD it´s Choloski,McIsaac as our better d-prospects + 12 let´s say undefined prospects. the prospect situation with the fowards looks similiar, which means there will be a surplus of good talent at some point not so far away and that means there will be trades, trades where we really have something to offer without trading core guys away. Trades where we add missing pieces, quality pieces. As for this season, I think that with the open spots filled with players which earned it through the prospect tournament, training camp and preseason and the players we already have we shouldn´t be that far off and I wouldn´t count it as a tank year with meaningless games, because I believe that no one in the dressing room wants to play meaningless games. They seem ready to me. We might tank up a bit more at deadline day, but realize what we have to offer come draft day 2020. I expect an upyear of Abby and Helmer, I think they want to prove that it wasn´t a mistake to sign them that long, everyone is under the microscope this year. I expect another step of our top 4 forwards and I think Hronek will put up some points and play real solid on the back end. If we are close to the playoffs we have the assets to reload at deadline day, if not we have "trade material" to gain a few extra picks ( tbh our contract situation screams "extra picks, extra picks") talking of picks, I totally agree with you that there is no sense in losing to end up higher in the draft, because all you learn from it is loosing... so why should we go for the big splash now, when all the signs are on 2020? Believe! edit: https://www.nhl.com/news/red-wings-larkin-taking-leadership-role/c-308342166?tid=277548856

Grade The Offseason 2019: Yzerman's Opening Moves
ely s replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
My grade is A so far, just because he didn´t do anything stupid for the sake of doing something before he really knows what we have in our system or an opportunity arises (cap trouble somewhere). Most of the big UFA signings are overpaid (especially if we try with where our team is at the moment) and I think every year there were teams who regret their actions on July 1. Fil, who we lost because Holland was to tightfisted to give him the few bucks extra and then doing his own July 1-regrettable in signing Weiss, is an ok 2C and is just in as a placeholder for Veleno imo. Nemeth is a solid insurance signing, just in case our prospects aren´t ready come Oktober(would then love to see Seider and Cholo being the #1 pairing in GR) and Kronner not coming back. I have no idea what Steve has tried so far, so I can´t really judge it. Probably he tried to get a "better" free agent or was trying a trade and nothing panned out. Probably he is just patient because he is waiting for the cap crunch coming in on more teams and is waiting for a good opportunity. There might be a chance he is trying to get the rights of Gusev, who knows? In the draft he did something Ken should have done after Rafalski was gone the latest, overload on defense until we have a high end defense again. Trades for real good d-men are really expensive as are free agents. You have to find your good d-men in the draft. Time will tell, I´ll know more when the season starts. -
2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

Stützle(17) is a 2 p/g LW against up to 4 years older competition in juniors, playing in the DEL the upcoming season. Icehockey in Germany started to pick up in popularity after Krupp( I don´t like him that much, bighead...) and the drafting of Marco Sturm. We now get the first waves of that "boom". There happened a lot in the last years and I think we will see a continued growth. We had 4 first round picks so far from germany. Sturm,Draisaitl,Bokk and Seider. I´m not sure but I think Goc and Ehrhoff were firsts as well. So we are picking up...

would you be willing to pay 4 1st round picks for Marner? I think knowing that gives you quite a lot of confidence... -
you should have your own comedy show...
-
I was more hoping for a Cholo/Seider #1 pairing. I think they can be a real dynamic duo. I am pretty sure that after the prospect tournament and training camp they don´t want to let him go back to Germany. If they send him back, they then have at least a good look on Tim Stützle as well.https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/348134/tim-stutzle he might be of interest for us, another 17 year old playing in Mannheim.

I wouldn´t mind a lineup like this in GR but where is Seider playing and who will be the 4 missing fowards on the DRW roster? edit: Kuffner Hirose,Ehn and Mr X ?

an outside look, some information and our outlook for the upcoming season in the prospect department https://thehockeywriters.com/red-wings-top-line-prediction-2019-20/ https://lastwordonhockeyprospects.com/2019/07/23/detroit-red-wings-prospects-2/ and I can recommend this podcast(119), really interesting interview with Shawn Horcoff edit: 14:20 is the start of the prospect talk, before that general stuff but still interesting -
thank you. now I remember, after our 1-7-2 start we had a 11-6-2 stretch which made me think that 18/19 wouldn´t be as bad as feared until we lost 6-2 in Washington and never got on track again , but at least a strong finish to the season
-
I totally agree with you to be aware of that, but it´s a light at the end of the tunnel. Last season we started real bad and never got out of that hole. I don´t have the numbers, but would guess that we were not that far off of a playoff position if you take the first 20 games away and in Larkin,AA,Mantha and Bert you have players which have taken significant steps and any of the four looks better to me than any of the aforementioned 3. Nyquist and Tatar just reached their potential quite early but are still good players. As this is the 2020 thread and with 28 unsigned prospects (10 of them 2nd and 3rd round picks), at least 10 promising prospects signed but currently not on the roster, 9 picks in 2020 (5 in the first three rounds), the eventually coming extra picks at the deadline and with continued growth I am really optimistic for 20/21.
-
either way, it just shows we are capable of being a good team, 15-20 games is no one hit wonder. Neither of Mantha, Larkin,Bert or AA had the chance to grow behind Z and Dats properly, they had to figure out a lot by themselves with the pressure of being relied on to right the ship.
-
I can´t really see why a lot of people here are so pessimistic. We already have a few good pieces in the lineup and there´s more pieces waiting in the pipeline. As I said before, we had a stretch of 15-20 games where we were one of the best teams in the league, when we were healthy. There were a lot of players taking steps in the right direction, Larkin,Mantha,Bert and AA + the last stint from Hronek were very promising, Cholo and Zadina got their first taste of NHL hockey to see what it takes. If we are able to strengthen our 2nd line to start the season and stay relativly healthy, we have a chance to be close to the playoffs this year. With Cholo and Seider hopefully being the top pair in GR and continued growth of our prospects, 2020 looks good to me.

However good or great Trouba is going to be, the price the Rangers have to pay for him is quite high. They still have 3 RFAs to sign and are already over the cap. So in the end the Rags didn´t only give a up a 1st + Pionk, they have to trade at least two good players, without any leverage because of the cap pressure, for cheap as well. I´m not sure that their team will be better after that... -
what else could he have done? If he wants to give his young guns a chance to play and see what he´s got in the folder. we don´t have a solid bottom 4 LD in the prospect pool as of today, so he took Nemeth for 2 years. That is never going to hurt, so I´m ok with that. If someone has a fantastic camp you can bring him in and Nemeth still won´t hurt. Fil is questionable, a depth aquistion that won´t hurt but probably unnecessary. We don´t even know what he really wanted to achieve, like we don´t know the real Yzerplan
-
it´s a bit unfair to judge Yzerman that early. After the first of October we will see if he has a different approach. I think there will be opportunities when more of the RFAs have signed, because there are a few teams heading into cap problems.
-
if I´m not completly mistaken, did he say something like "I will get an overview of what we have this year and go from there"
