1/10 GDT - Red Wings at Blackhawks - 8:30 PM EST
BinMucker94 replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in 2016-17
I like how on the 1st goal Chicago didn't even have a guy in front. Just our idiot defense screening their own goalie. Block the shot or get out of the damn way -
1/7 GDT : Red Wings at San Jose Sharks, 10:30 EST

After this game I think it's time to make some changes. I personally think Miller, Ott, and Sheehan are trash. Nosek is on a tear for the Griffins right now. I'd give him another shot. Callahan is just under a point per game. Give him a chance. Call Bert back up. At least they'll play with intensity. The worst thing that happens is we find out they can't hack it in the NHL and move on. This team won't be in a worse position than it is now. -
Team defense is awful
-
Svech, Hicketts, and Russo look pretty good in these highlights lol. I know it's just one game but it's still fun to watch these young guys have some success.
-
First game I've been able to watch in 2 or 3 weeks. That was painful
-
No movement on the pp. Everyone just stands still. At least move to a open area. Give the puck carrier somewhere to pass
-
Good to see a young guy standing up for himself
-
That was him that turned it over wasn't it? Lol. Maybe if he had gotten a few more looks over the years he would look more comfortable.
-
Jensen had 2 guys in front of the net with no help. He chose the wrong guy. Oh well the d needs more support
-
Haha Ericsson is such a pylon
-
Lashoff not covering his guy. Glad he is in the line up
-
I think the real issue is how passive the team is defensively. Everyone just crowds the slot and tries to block shots and passing lanes. Opponents have free ice around the outside and just rip shots and passes into the slot at will. With all the bodies in front it's way more likely to have pucks deflected into the net.

A goal on the PP is refreshing
-
Put Jurco in Glenny's spot on Nielsen and Abbys line
-
Going to the game in Buffalo on Wednesday. Almost want to sell my tickets if it's going to be this bad. Guess I'll just get drunk enough to not care
-
Why does Ericsson have his back to the play on that last goal? One of the first things you learn as a defenseman is to never turn your back to the play. What an *******

I agree with all of this. There is no reason for shutdown lines anymore. Especially when you have this much depth up front. I'd rather see 4 lines that can play and keep the puck in the offense zone for extended periods of time than watch 1 or 2 lines constantly play in the defensive zone with no offensive skill other than dump and change. -

Yea I knew Ristolainen was good but I didn't know he is projected to be that much of a stud. Sabres are loaded with prospects. Sometimes I'm jealous the Wings don't get to draft in the top 10 draft after draft. I'd miss playoff hockey too much tho. -

Just wondering what people here think about Ristolainen? As far as I know he still hasn't signed with Buffalo. All my friends who are Sabres fans love the guy but I dont really pay much attention to them -
Nielsen was all over the ice in that 1st period. Got the primary assist on the goal too.

Tatar - Neilsen - Vanek Zetterberg - Larkin - Abdelkader Nyquist - AA - Mantha Sheahan - Helm - Jurco Would love to see this for the forwards. Not necessarily the combos but icing the most talented players instead of 4th line plugs. I don't think this would ever happen tho. -
I feel like Ouellet and Sproul could have been with the team the past year or 2 and the defense would not have been any worse than it was. I'm a little disappointed that they haven't had much of a chance to stick in the line up. Especially with how terrible the defense has been at moving the puck. I remember hearing a lot about Tvrdon when he was drafted and in jrs, then pretty much nothing. What happened to him? Did he have a serious injury or something?

Signed Thomas Vanek signs 1 year, $2.6m deal with Detroit

I haven't been paying much attention to Vaneks game the past couple of years but when I worked for Buffalo I got to see him play a lot. He was never known for his speed or effort defensively but when he got the puck around the net he had a very good set of hands and the ability to finish. His shot was lethal from almost anywhere. Seemed to be very successful in the shootout. He was also a threat on the powerplay, mostly in front of the net, but also with his shot. He was also really good at the high slot deflection play that Zetterberg tries from time to time. This was like 5 or 6 years ago now so I don't really know what to expect from him. Maybe a solid net front presence especially on the pp. -

I really like the look of these lines with the pieces that they have. I agree you have to put Zetterberg on Larkins wing incase he needs to help out with faceoffs. Also if there is a trade in the works involving Nyquist you can slot Mantha in on that 3rd line.
