I still dont understand why fans dont want to see our draft picks play.
-
been watching us suck too long
-
Mrs Soderblom is a smokeshow
-
good post. I think Sprong, Fischer, and Kostin are going to form a killer 4th line. Good enough to make the 3rd line our 4th line, tbh.
-
yah, i see that as likely. this isnt a good sign that Yzerman signed 5 stop gap vet dmen ovee the last 2 years. Thats NHL experience we need our draft picks to get.
-
Yah, I'm not against full tank mode this year, tbh. I'd like to go into one more draft with a top 10 pick and some good 2nd rounders. The draft picks we have just aren't ready yet, I guess. I was hoping Edvinsson, Kasper, Wallinder, and Johansson would be killing it in 23-24 when we were talking about them at Kasper's draft. Seems like they're all going to be in Grand Rapids for 2 more years now. YUK.

Im stating that the notion that Lafrenier needed to be "developed" properly - which IS what you implied - to me is laughable. He just needs 20 minutes a night on the 1st line and 1st pp. The whole Ken Holland over-ripening thing has been engrained into Wings Fans' brains, and they cant get it out for some reason. There are players who need development (usually 2nd rounders and back), and there are players that just need ice time and standard maturation (usually 1st rounders).

AGAIN - 22 years old, scoring a point every other game with middle 6 minutes. This guy is the most undervalued player in the league right now. You guys are going to hate Lucas Raymond after this year, I think. When a scoring winger gets 1 minute of pp time each night and none off faceoffs in the offensive zone with the first line center, you know what happens to that scoring winger? They dont score is what happens. Lafrenier is going to be a 70-80 pt left winger when he starts getting the top line minutes. That might not happen for another 3-4 years, tho. The Rags have 27 mil locked up in Panarin, Zibanijad, abd Kreider as their top line for the next 3 years. Those guys are going to chew up the good minutes. Lafrenier will work his way up to play over Kakko with Trochek and Chytl on the 2nd line and score 45-50 pts this season. He turns 22 years old in October. His "development" is doing just fine. I love how Red Wings fans think the Red Wings have some master player development program in place. I think our strength training program and player development is pitiful, tbh. Michigan Football has a great development program. Harbaugh turns boys into men rapidly. The Red Wings only turn boys with zits into boys with less zits.

I agree with you. This team is ditching DECLINING vets and replacing them with RISING draft picks. That's a good thing to be doing when you have a good core, as you've pointed out. The Red Wings are replacing failed draft picks with declining vets. I get that Yzerman's guys might not all be ready, but he's making it so there isnt any room even if they are.
-
agreed. And he's 22 now. I think people are giving up on him WAY too early. The Rags have asked him to shore up the 2nd and 3rd line LW spot. Even the best LW that isnt on thr top line only gets about 45 points. It's not a coincidence that the Rangers have gotten better as a team and their playoff pushes have gone on longer in the last couple of years. I find it comical that he gets treated like Zadina by most fans. He's nowhere near a bust. Just hasnt gotten the starring role yet.

oof. we kinda seem to be similar. testament to Stevie.

Yup. ASP is going to be good. Tuomisto is a guy we need to be good as well. Hoping they both make a lot of progress this season. The Scando cupboard is pretty promising right now.
-
he's my favorite dark horse
-
He's going to stop gap well for us. Our height/weight average has to be up at the top of the league now if you take our top 10 dmen with Edvinsson, Tuomisto, and Wallinder bottom 3.

Tatar traded to Golden Knights for 2018 1st, 2019 2nd & 2021 3rd

It makes your trade tree difficult to comprehend, so we cant. -
ha. We need a group chat soon.

And even when it appears that a passive beta male takeover is imminent (Edvinsson, Johansson, Tuomisto, Wallinder, ASP, Johansson, Viro, Soderblom, Niederbach, Nilson, Nilson), Stevie comes thru with a bagfull of solid, straight eyed, testosterone filled North American UFA signings and trades and fills up the big club roster with might while Sven rslur types back in kronner country pound their fists on their ikea furniture lightly and say "shucksinsson". And lightly not because theyre scared of breaking their delicate assemble by number armrests, but because they lack the strength in their forearms and biceps/triceps to give them the leverage through the fulcurm in their elbows to break feau leather covered styrofoam.

The average lazy eyed beta swede doesn't care what number he's given or what his name plate looks like.

This is what I see with only defenseman considered.. Ghost for a 2nd rounder in early Feb. Petry for a 2nd rounder in early Feb. Johansson and Eddog finish out the year and remain. Wings go into 2024 draft with (1) 1st and (3) 2nds. Matta traded in Feb. 2025 for a 2nd. Chiarot traded in Feb. 2025 for a 2nd. Tuomisto and Wallinder finish out the year and remain. Wings go into 2025 draft with (1) 1st and (3) 2nds. Holl traded in Feb. 2026 for a 2nd. ASP finishes out the year and remains. Wings go into 2026 draft with (1) 1st and (2) 2nds. End Results: Walman-Seider Edvinsson-ASP Johansson-Tuomisto Wallinder

I like our forwards we brought in.
-
Flunkie and a 4th, and you'll pay for Petry too you French Fslurs. There is a big difference between being an Ontario almost American and a Quebec almost Frenchie Hslur.
-
I'm thinking the Rags are going to make a HARD push for it. Rags/Devils in the conf finals for sure.

you should see this year.

I know that YOU KNOW that we used 1) an exceptional loophole that doesn't exist any longer, some magnificent foresight, and the lack of a salary cap in drafting Europeans nobody else was looking at, drafting defecting Russians, and assembling the all start 2002 team. Jimmy D and Scotty Bowman brought the Red Wings glory that they shouldn't have had. And this is my point. The Penguins success was built around the draft. Chicago, LA, Tampa Bay, Colorado, New Jersey, New York Rangers, etc. etc. etc. The Red Wings are in a pickle and could end up in a long stretch of mediocre by never having a shot at a guy that dominates. Yzerman's record for pulling value from the 5-10 range is nothing short of spectacular, but those guys still don't beat having a McDavid, MacKinnon, Makar, Bedard type guy in your arsenal.
