Seider will be on the roster full time by the end of the season. Yzerman will name him captain after the draft.

Yzerman wants Seider to be captain

Seider and Veleno should both be higher than Zadina. Can't believe how high Kaski is.

My problem with this notion is it's essentially gambling. Maybe your Binnington shows up in the playoffs, maybe he doesn't. I don't think the Blues win the cup if he doesn't. Plenty of very good franchise goalies have won cups with their teams. Holtby, Quick, Rask, Fleury. In fact I'd say guys like Binnington are not the norm, they're the outlier. At the end of the day you need a very good team in front of your goalie regardless. And that's the risk with taking a guy like Askarov in the first round. We solidify the goalie position but perhaps miss out on a paradigm shifting center or something. Will the team in front of Askarov be good enough to win without that other player? I think that's the question. And maybe its too early in the rebuild for us to consider an Askarov. Though I'd certainly rather draft a good goalie than shop for one. True, that's a scary thought, but IMHO the Habs have been a mess for years and it's sort of their own fault they've squandered Price. It's probably too little too late for Lundqvist with the Rags, but to their credit they were all in trying to win with him for years and I thought they did a respectable effort trying to get that cup. Just didn't happen. I don't think I'd blame Lundqvist for that. What's his face has done an extremely good job rebuilding that team now too. Sames Come again tough guy? I agree that taking a goalie top 10 seems beyond bold. But if this kid is the next dominator or something its at least worth discussing.

I totally believe in building from the net out. The goalie is the only player on the ice the entire game. You need him to be great. Dmen are playing 15 - 25 minutes a game. You need them to be good. Forwards are on the ice for 8 - 20 minutes to game. You can get buy with them being just ok. Granted centers are like an extra Dman these days so you do need to be strong down the middle as well. All we have in net is basically a 35 year old Jimmy Howard and a buncha so-so prospects. We now suddenly have Hronek and Seider coming up the D ladder, so if there's anytime to make a not-sexy pick in the first and add a possible star future goalie, it might be now. Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Athanasiou - Veleno - Zadina Cholowski - Hronek McIsaac - Seider Askarov Larsson Suddenly that looks like a complete core of young players. Of course we could add another awesome forward piece or something and go shopping for goalies or something. I think a lot will depend on how Larsson plays. I hate to say I'm hoping Howard goes down with an injury at some point and Larsson gets a callup over Pickard. If we can at least establish that YES or NO this kid is the future of our net, it should help us with this pick. If he's not I'd love to add Askarov. Mrazek got like 10 games in at 21, and we all pretty much looked around and said this our guy. I'd like to see something like that this year. Probably Shoulda. Q Hughes looks much better than Zadina to me.

I sexually Identify as Henrik Zetterberg. Ever since I was a boy I dreamed of skating over the ice of JLA whipping nasty back-handers into the nets of enemy goalies. People say to me that you can't identify as an already living person, and that I am not Henrik Zetterberg trapped in a less athletic body, but I don't care, I'm beautiful and this is my truth. I'm having a plastic surgeon install more hair follicles into my face to make my beard thicker, and I'm transplanting my vocal cords with Swedish ones. From now on I want you guys to call me "Hank" and respect me as the captain of this team. If you can't accept me you're a Z-phobe and need to check your privilege. Thank you for being so understanding. -

And the angel of the lord came unto me Snatching me up from my place of slumber And took me on high, and higher still, until we moved through the spaces betwixt the air itself And he brought me unto a vast farmland of our own Midwest And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the Little Ceasar's Arena One thousand... Nay! One million voices, full of fear Terror possessed me then... And I begged... "Angel of the lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the Angel said unto me... "These are the cries of the Detroit fans, you see Reverend Legs tomorrow is game-day, and to them it will define their weekend" So I sprang from my slumber, drenched in sweat, with the tears of one million terrified fans... and roared... HEAR ME KNOW, I have seen the light, they have a team, they have a coach, they have a small core under twenty four... DAMN YOU! Let the octopi be thrown! Save our team! CAN I GET AN AMEN? Sorry, I coun't in good confidence let the devil king @Dabura post another "Devils" GDT -
True. I'm always right. Negative connotations? Lol amusing

Right. It's a flawed POV in that way. You're right. It was significantly different than the norm. I should be clear I do agree there. The way I'm twisting this is: the norm doesn't hold much value to me. Yzerman could've taken Soderblom at #6 and I would've been PUMPED. Nice. Sorry I just assumed he was still in the 20-30 range leading right into the draft. Lol very happy to be wrong on this occasion my friend. Yzerman is a smarter hockey brain than me. The only other fans of Seider prior to the draft among Wings fans I found was like a handful of guys on the HFboards. So yeah basically I'm a genius and you're all bozos who think Zegras and Cozens are actually good HA

Either you're misinterpreting me or I'm (again) misinterpreting the term reach. I don't necessarily think that anyone is suggesting Seider is a bad pick BECAUSE he's a reach. I don't like the term reach because he wasn't a reach to Yzerman. And at the end of the day I care much more for Yzerman's opinion than I do Pronman's, Mckenzie's, or even ISS's. It's probably a flawed POV, as I'm going to be initially happy with every draft pick made. But that's the way I like to approach the draft. I don't do much research and I don't really follow draft eligible players beyond what's posted here on LGW. I trust the team to make their picks. I spend a summer being giddy about them, and then I form my opinions of them throughout the coming year(s). This is probably best illustrated by me last year with Zadina. I was hype about the kid all summer, but my opinion changed sharply around late October 2018. Going into the season my knowledge was; he's a sniper who plays a well-rounded game and he spent much of the previous year ranked at #3. About 2 months into the 2018 season I decided I disagreed with that description and that ranking. Furthermore, I'm sure you've probably seen me in draft threads expounding about how dumb and time-wasting I think it is to follow draft prospects. About all I think the activity is good for is getting descriptions of players. That all said, I broke my own rules with Seider this year. Found him at the suggestion of someone on HFboards around April or May, and I was shocked how good he was for a player ranked 20-30. So I started following him. I have more than a couple posts on here before the draft stating that I thought he was probably the best Dman in the draft outside of Byram. And I believe I said I wouldn't be shocked if he went in the 10-15 range. Low and behold he goes #6 to us. So I'm definitely very biased on this player at this point. Yzerman basically over-validated my opinion of him. TLDR: I don't care for draft rankings much. In my mind Seider was always the 2nd best D in that draft, and apparently Yzerman agreed with me.
