All Purpose Grand Rapids Griffins Thread
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to joesuffP's topic in General
In all seriousness, I would love to draft more German players if it makes sense for the team, especially if they've played in Mannheim with Seider. German hockey seems to be at least trending upward for the time being. It could one day be a decent market for hockey players, and it's always surprised me that more Germans don't play what with some other nearby countries like Czech producing players. If we could get just a strong German D pairing going, I think that would create a lot more German Wing fans and maybe interest more young Germans to take up hockey in general after watching their countrymen have success together in the NHL. Just a thought. -

One of the weirder deals I've seen. Basically the deal is 4th for Sparks. Vegas didn't wanna pay anymore actual cash to Clarkson despite it not counting against the cap. So the Leafs said were cash rich, give us a 4th for sparks and we'll LTIR him ourselves. Leafs cap is unaffected, but they can''t LTIR Clarkson till the start of the season. So basically Marner won't get a contract till the season starts. -
Hey man they can''t stop us all. Don't you want ur own sex alien?

It's a beautiful city till you step on a used needle in the park Meth seems to be taking over as the drug of choice though. You're allowed to have a few grams on you at all times for personal use. Wish I was joking.

Not sure where Seider is player yet, at least I haven't seen it announced yet what the team has decided. He seems ready for the AHL already, but I know his German coach said he expects him to play on Mannheim's top pair this coming season (and hopefully the power play too). I would be fine with him spending one more year in Germany doing this. I expect Hirose, Kuffner, and Ehn will make the roster. With any of our 1st round picks being the #1 call up. -

How I suspect the Griffs will likely look this season: Rasmussen - Veleno - Zadina Puempel - Turgeon - Svechnikov Smith - Pearson - Terry Elson - MacLeod - Pope Ford Cholowski - Kaski Hicketts - Saarijarvi Lashoff - Lindstrom McIlrath Pickard Larsson The top line (if it materializes) looks beastly and well balanced. Big intimidating dirty areas and net front guy + fast center who can drive play + lethal sniper. Svech obviously needs to have a big season to return to relevancy. Kaski and Larsson should be exciting players to watch too. -
You're not wrong. And it would have been interesting to see what Holland would have done with this off-season too. Does he make these meaningless stop gap moves that Yzerman did, or does he do a more Jeff Gorton approach and play with the big names to accelerate this *****? I get the feeling Holland would have spent more money this offseason for better or worse. I also don't necessarily agree with the notion that Yzerman needs, or is taking, a year to evaluate this team. He's been an NHL GM working in the same division as us, and by all accounts was scouting for us this entire past year. He also officially worked side by side with Holland until Ken's departure. He knows what we have and don't have. He's not evaluating this team. He's tanking. And yeah changing GM's because fans are unsatisfied seems dumb, but we do pay the bills so to speak. Gotta keep customers happy. The warm glow of Yzerman should keep a lot of fans onboard during the next 3 years of sucking. Fans: "Caertainly this is rock bottom for our franchise" Yzerman: This really connects with my inner 1993 university student studying sociology. Tribal tattoos will be cool forever. Weed cures cancer. We had a stretch of 15-20 games where we had one of the best lines in the league.

The Wings missing out on Krug I feel like was a mistake that goes un-talked about. He was undrafted and playing in our backyard. Now he's the Bruins top paid Dman. But we gave $5 mil to DK out of wastern so we go that going for us. -
Furreal. Good on Holland. Not sure what Calgary is thinking here.

Unfortunately he lives close enough to Detroit so that he and Larkin can meet up for play dates already. Might be harder to pry him out of there... -
Will be interesting to see how much of Lucic's salary Holland is retaining. Not sure how much this makes sense for Calgary... trading with your biggest rival as well. That said, If Holland retains a lot of salary and Neal doesn't tun things around... he may have just compounded an already bad problem.

Thank you. Krug it is. Used to watch him when he played for MSU, before the bottom fell out on that program. Anyone from Livonia wanna confirm that he wants to come home to Detroit? -

And there you have it. At least we can finally put the last 4 years of Trouba rumors to bed finally. Who will be our new fantasy Dman now is the real question? -
No. Seattle hates America.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to Dabura's topic in General
If Yzerman was seriously considering acquiring Point this year, I doubt he would have thrown money at Nemeth and Filppula. His moves to me are reflective of another tank year. Adding Point now would be outside that vision. -
Yzerman did good things in Tampa, but never won it all, sure. Seems like we needed a change though, at least for PR reasons. The hiring of the captain has pretty much successfully quelled all the discontent fans, despite the fact that he's so far continuing Holland's master plan. I'm willing to give Yzerman the benefit of the doubt for now and see what he does. I did like how Holland was handling things once the rebuild began, so a continuation of that for right now is fine for me. My concern is for when the rebuild ends, Yzerman's moves begin coming to fruition, and the long honeymoon is finally over. If Seider turns out to be no better than Danny Dekeyser or something HOLLLLLLEEEEEEEE s*** people will be pissed, and rightfully so. He has about a 2 to 4 year leash I'd say to make shrewd moves and improve this roster. If for whatever reason that doesn't go well it will be tough to see the fanbase turn on Yzerman.

They'd probably go with the name Seattle Whales for trademark and 'sensitivity' purposes. And antifa would still protest and destroy local coffee shops for "appropriating whale culture"
