This is actually a good idea. Clarkson only has 1 year left and they need the cap. Can't they just LTIR him thou? So 1st rounders can bust, but 2nd rounders like Berggren can't? Gusev is the best player in the KHL right now. Berggren doesn't even play full time on his team. One is a lot more of a sure thing than the other. People do follow it. It's a useful metric and gets updated every year. Shipachyov was predicted in 2017 to be a point per game player just like Panarin. And Vegas was touting him as their future 1st line C. It's a shame he never really got the chance honestly. Currently Shipachyov is projected to be a 70 pt NHL player. Is the translation factor an exact end all be all? No, it's just rough best guess at what a player will be like production wise in the NHL. It's formulated based on players switching leagues and their production levels. Would Gusev immediately step in and have an 80 pt season as projected? I don't know. But I would be thrilled with just a 50 or 60 pt season out of him. I ask myself: Would I trade Berggren for a 27 year old 50-60 point winger like Ryan Dzingel straight up? The answer for me is yes every time. Would you? A 27 year old could be on our roster for the next 8 years or more. I'm not concerned at all about age when a player is 27. Based on what? What do you not like about Shipachyov that makes you think he wouldn't have become a productive NHL player given the chance? Panarin might truly be far and away the better NHL player than Shipachyov, but I'm not gonna make that statement based on 3 NHL games played.

Wasn't Gusev a very highly ranked 1st rounder at one point? He only went in the 7th to Tampa because he said he didn't wanna play in the NHL. Gusev is currently projected to be a point per game player in the NHL by the translation factor for the KHL (0.804). Berggen is currently projected to be a 15 pt player in the NHL by the the translation factor for the SHL (0.596). Berggren is a kid who still has a lot of developing to do. He might become a 60+ pt player, a 30 pt player, a 15 pt player, or he might not make the NHL at all. Gusev is a fully developed player who nearly broke the KHL scoring record this year (missed by 3 pts). This shouldn't be an argument at all IMO. I'm taking Gusev over Berggren without hesitation and twice on Sunday. Shipachyov is a good indicator of what can go wrong with Gusev type player. He was promised a spot on their NHL roster but was sent to the AHL after only 3 games. THREE GAMES. Really dumb decision by VGK IMO, but I also understand their POV. They were winning and everything was clicking except for Shipachyov. Had they not been winning I think they would have given him a lot more slack and time to settle into his NHL role. But they exhibited shockingly little patience, and Shipachyov felt lied to and unfairly treated so he returned immediately to Russia instead of reporting to the AHL. Personally I think Shipachyov needed more time to acclimate because he plays center. Panarin didn't have that level of responsibility hoisted immediately on him and was able to jump right in and play his game. Gusev also plays wing.

Yes this is the tweet I was talking about. Didn't realize Detroit was mentioned! Read something this morning that McPhee has already gotten calls about Gusev and that they'd like to get everything settled for themselves within the next week. Hopefully Stephen is on this one. Gusev + Trouba and I might consider giving Yzerman a passing grade for this offseason

Definitely a risk, but he has pretty much performed to the level or higher that Panarin did in the KHL. I'd imagine the guy you're pointing at is Subban. PK responds "What? Cause I'm black?" What do you do?

I'd honestly have no problem losing a Top40 2nd. Gusev is like the best player not currently in the NHL. His floor is probably like 60 pts.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

I posted somewhere on this board that my buddy who went to development camp thought Hirose, Kuffner, and Veleno looked like clearly the best players. I said to him, "Really, Kuffner too?" He said yup Kuffner was a machine at development camp. Dominated. So Ivy league boy didn't have the same start our new Spartan did, but maybe he's just as good or possibly even better? Will be interesting to see where both fall in the lineup.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

Alright serious time, Canada day is over. I know Fil round 2 is the talk of the town, but he''s not the concerning contract at all IMO. Nemeth at 2 years for $3 mil AAV is very concerning. What is Yzerman thinking here? This is an NHL player with 250 NHL games played and less then 40 pts scored over that span. And Stevie awarded him 6 million dollars? Does he not care because we won't reach the cap? Still seems pretty careless... On top of that this is a Dman that played 16 minutes a night in Colorado, and 14 minutes a night for the Avs in the playoffs. For comparison, Jon Ericsson played 17 minutes a night for us last year, and even Jake Chelios averaged 17 minutes a night in the few games he played. Nemeth was literally relied upon less than Big E and Lil Chelios by the Avs. He'll be 28 in February and is 6'3" 220 lbs. I guess that's nice? If you told me Patrik Nemeth was signed for 900K to play in GR, I would be like yeah legit. But $3 mil AAV? I hope Yzerman knows something about him I don't because this contract feels like a total waste of funds. This Nemeth contract is considered by cap-friendly contract comparison to be most similar to Brandon Manning, Deryk Engelland, and Brayden Mcnabb. The first is now regulated to the AHL and the other two are clear overpayments. This all begs the true and obvious question... Is Steve Yzerman a complete retard?

VGK shopping Gusev''s rights after large gap in contract talks Yzerman drafted this guy and lost him to Vegas in the expansion. Stevie is good with Russians... and we do have the money to pay him. If you buy into translation factors at all, Gusev would have had a 66 pt season in 62 NHL games played this year by the 2017 metric of 0.804. Did I mention he's RH?

Bergevin with assisnt GM Trevor Timmins (far left) who also shreds in the gym Lapointe, Bergies director of player development, also still yoked Bergevin has built a head office of Chad Alpha Males. If you don't sign good contracts with the Habs Bergevin and his staff will literally break you. Relevant to the Kadri/Barrie trade They're naked... and they're not wearin' any clothes too!

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

Yeah puck moving Dmen come at such a high premium, it's hard to believe Kadri alone got it done. The Seattle expansion group wants offseason 2020, but I believe the NHL head office wants offseason 2021. Not sure why exactly, but it probably has to do with a possible impending lockout/work-stoppage in 2020. That said, I can confirm the Key Arena here in Seattle has been under full construction and remodeling for the past 6 months. They're digging underneath the existing structure to expand the arena, which I heard was supposed to take a long time, but they've been literally working on it like it's the cure for cancer so it may be done relatively soon I''m not sure.

News From Around the NHL *Mod warning page 75*

Yeah I would value Barrie much more than Kadri. He produces more points than Kadri as a Dman... One of the issues I have with Kadri is he wasn't valued as a shutdown center until Babs forced him to be one. Babs is known for his defensive systems. Is Kadri going to carry that with him? Or is he gonna go back to being OG Kadri in Colorado? Personally I value Kadri's defense like I do Helm's (another Babs trained player) and Helm doesn't even player center anymore and I wouldn't miss his D if it were gone (giggity). That said I believe the math freaks love Kadri's defense, and like you, I haven't followed him enough to be truly confident in my immediate opinion. I know even less about Kerfoot TBH. He could be total trash as a defensive center, I honestly don't know. When I think of shuttdown 2C's I think of Kesler, Dubinksy, Couturier, etc... not Kadri. But maybe my opinions need updating.

2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?

Fil and Frans are both very good 3C's IMHO. If Blash can pit them against each other for the 2C position, it could be some very good internal competition that will hopefully motivate the pair to have good seasons no matter the line they end up on. PS Fil could still pass for like a 28/29 year old IMO
