2019 Offseason Rebuild Thread, Pt. 2 - What's the Yzerplan?
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to Dabura's topic in General
You're splitting some serious hairs here Jets are definitely gonna ask for Hronek in return. Whether you'd personally include him is neither here nor there. Jets will not be asking for Kuffner or Puempel at all. AA + Rasmussen + Lindstrom Veleno + Cholowski + 2nd Bertuzzi + Berggren + 1st Come up with whatever wacky combos you like, but we would be giving up multiple significant pieces to obtain him. -

Lol don't pretend like the two are similar. Kuffner + Puempel + 2nd is a complete joke and is honestly completely retarded Veleno + Hronek + 2nd is completely in the realm of possible even if you don't like it You guys need to realize Trouba is going to come at a hefty price. Young 50 pt proven NHL Dmen are like the hope diamonds of the NHL. Ok is this loophole because the player elected or club elected? Either way I'm fine. Let him arbitrate. Best way to get him is in one year as a UFA -

Since you fools wanna be foolish, here is what they're saying over at the Jets boards To Detroit: Jacob Trouba To Winnipeg Joe Veleno, Filip Hronek, 2019 2nd If you're ok with a deal like that ok, I'm not -

Players can only go through arbitration once. You're operating under the assumption that Trouba wants to be a Red Wing. There is absolutely zero evidence to support that, just speculation by us. Laine had a 50 pt season this year. He's not getting $11 mil or anywhere close to it. They have plenty of space to re-sign Trouba to a big contract if they want to. And no it's not obvious he doesn't want to be a Jet, it's obvious he wants to be paid well, and deservedly so. They'll fetch more than a first for him We're not getting Trouba this season unless it's for a significant price. Please think for two seconds. This is a 50 pt RFA controlled Dman. Those players do not fall into your lap for Matt Puempel and a 2nd under any circumstance. It's amazing that I have to point this out. There's also absolutely zero evidence suggesting he wants to be a Red Wing. -

True with the NTC, he has a 16 team trade list. We'd have to be on it for him to get here. I personally doubt Flroida because they're rumored to be going all in on Panarin and Bobrovsky. I would think they want to keep their cap wide-open because of that. I could see returning to NYR as a destination. They get their captain back and some more nice picks in the process. Or Buffalo, he's from upstate NY so it would be a home-coming and the Sabres have cap to burn as well. If he wants to win now, most cup teams won't want him, and the buyout is more likely. Tampa saves $3.1 in a buyout scenario this season. -

I don't think that's a contingency at all. Callahan has put up 39 pts in his last 137 games. He's a 20-25 pt player with defensive acumen. In that sense he's basically an older version of Abdelkader but for $1.8 mil more a season. He doesn't really have the clout to decide anything about where he plays. He's lucky just to have a job. Tampa will likely buy him out if he can't be traded. If we can retain salary and flip him I'd be fine with it. Not sure how many competitive teams want to spend about $3 million on 34 year old Abby type players though. I'd be content to eat his entire salary for one year, and I'm sure he'd love the opportunity to re-ignite his career on a team that's not as deep as Tampa is. -

I agree, it's not the right time to execute a massive trade/offer-sheet that will cost us prospects and/or picks. A major UFA signing is about the most we can hope for. Most fans were not high on Bertuzzi either. I think most would have included him in a trade as an after thought just a season or two ago. Now he's a player who could garner us a 1st rounder in a trade. My point being, personal emotions aside, it's way way way too early to sell Rasmussen like it is most of our prospects. I'm not very high on Zadina at the current moment, but I'm still absolutely unwilling to sell him. The chances I could be wrong about him are far too great. I think the Callahan trade is realistic because of the situation Tampa is in. But Winnipeg does not have their hands tied in the same way. Trouba will probably be with the Jets for the immediate future. -

Trouba is a 25 year old, 50 pt, RFA Dman. These rumored/suggested trades for his rights are beyond laughable. His RFA compensation is at a bare minimum a 1st, 2nd, and a 3rd. All the Jets have to do is qualify him and then let him field offers on the market and they will get that compensation. If we want to woo them with a trade we should be offering what they want: cost-effective players who can contribute next season. That's: Zadina, Rasmussen, Hirose, Cholowski, Hronek, Mantha, AA, Bertuzzi We should be prepared to give up Rasmussen + Cholowski + more in such a trade Anyway, I seriously doubt our chances at getting Trouba this season. The Jets are in the driver seat. They have him under RFA control and they have the cap space to re-sign him. Trouba this season is a pipe dream. The only real chance we have at him is he doesn't want to be a Winnipeg lifer, signs a short RFA bridge deal this summer, and returns home via UFA in a few seasons. -

In regards to Callahan, the more I think about it, the more I think we might get out of Tampa. Think about our Datsyuk trade. If we didn't move Datsyuk's contract so what? We woulda been tied down for a season but ultimately we'd be fine after. If Tampa doesn't move Callahan they are serious repercussions. Point is probably gone. Karlsson isn't an option. Meanwhile 3 defensive regulars need to be re-signed. Stakes are much higher here. This will be the first real test of Brisebois. He absolutely must move that contract IMO if not more.... just let old buddy Stevie help you out like he helped Holland with Quincey... -
All trash. Don't sign. The 2017 draft was pretty bad outside of Rasmussen, Lindstrom and Pettruzzeli. I honestly hope Yzerman sacks half the scouting staff and signs his own guys. I feel the same problem with loyalty to vets was going on in the front office too.
-
Definitely. Oil fans seem super happy about the hire too.
-
Dave Tippet being reported as Oilers new HC, my twitter links aren't working this morning Interesting as Dave was in charge of operations for the new Seattle team and by all accounts was going to hire Holland as his GM. Now Holland is hiring him in Edmonton. These two must have got pretty familiar over the last year.

Out for the rest of the tourney but will be fine Whoops! -
And Wolfe went to mine!
-
Always liked AJ Jenks when he played for the Whalers, too bad he couldn't cut out a career above the ECHL. Kinda disheartening to see Pope and Sadowy on the walleye. Both seemingly random Holland projects.

Wouldn't you rather revive a thread than start a new one? There's so much rich history on LGW

Meh I may be in the minority on this one, but I think Karlsson will hold up fine. I wouldn't be afraid to sign him. In regards to Trouba, I'd rather gamble that he wants to hit UFA to decide his fate. It kinda seems like it'll it happen with this player. I aslo get the strong feeling he wants to be back in Michigan. Some old friends of mine knew him when he was in highschool in Rochester MI and always said he was super close with family and especially his mom. I have the feeling this kid has his eyes set on the Red Wings and returning home at some point in his career. Meh I don't really have any interest in RNH. I'd rather lean on AA/Veleno/Ras at C than trade for him. He didn't get more than 25 pts in the last 3 seasons not counting this one. This one he had 41. He's really not that good. Mantha is by far the better player. Lmao I forgot about this Yeah I want Byram, but not trading up level want. There's other good players out there if we dont get him. Let him hit FA, then sign him. -

Agreed, Yzerman left Brisebois in a rough spot to be honest. He can't really move a Dman, and Yzerman handed out big contracts with NTC's to like every forward. Assuming they move Callahan, add Foote (925K) to the roster, and add 3 inexpensive forwards (say $1 mil each), that leaves about 10.5 million in cap space to sign both Point and Karlsson. Let's be generous and say Point signs a 1 year bridge deal for like $6 mil. That leaves 4.5 for Karlsson. They'd have to move another forward. JT Miller has an 8 team no trade list right now. And Killorn's modified NTC clause kicks in this coming season with a 16 team trade list. It's probably have to be on of those two that gets moved. How about this: To DET: Ryan Callahan JT Miller 1st round pick To TBL: Jacob De La Rose Evgeny Svechnikov Christopher Ehn 3rd round pick They get to unload their cap space and get 3 inexpensive forwards they need. Plus Svech might late bloom for them. Bertuzzi - Larkin - Mantha Hirose - Athanasiou - Miller Helm - Nielsen - Rasmussen Abdelkader - Glendening - Callahan Zadina

I'm fairly content with Cholowski, Hronek, McIssac as the future of the blueline. At least one other prospect will probably squeak on to the blueline in the near future as well. If Yzerman can add Byram at the draft that'd be pretty huge. I'd prefer that than trading for Trouba, who I suspect the Jets will want a kings ransom for. Yeah I'd rather gamble at the draft than obtain Raddysh -

Trouba is good no doubt. But I'd rather let him hit UFA, especially since we supposedly have the inside track what with him being a Michigan homebody. -

I know the meme is rAsMUssEn iS a NeT fROnt SPeCiaLisT, but to argue the opposite of the point I did with Zadina; it's too soon to tell. I wouldn't trade either Zadina or Ras for anyone really (realistically) I think Zadina tops out as a 60-70 pt sniper winger who will be average defensively I think Rasmussen tops out as a 60 pt center who will be a monster defensively. The center you roll against other teams top lines, like a Kesler or a Dubinsky. And at 6'6" 225 lbs he could be extremely dominant in that roll. Add his net front presence on the PP and you've got a possibly extremely valuable player one day. The only wrench in that plan for Ras is if AA or Veleno take clearly over the 2C spot. If that's the case I think he moves to Wing and becomes the forechecking power forward that Mantha doesn't like to be. -
I think Friedman was suggesting Karlsson would take a pay cut to play for Tampa If they sign him for 7 years at 8 mil per, maybe there's a lot less regret. Or maybe he's willing to take a cut in term to play for Tampa?? 3 or 4 years at 9 mil per to get that cup? Either way, if Brisebois is serious about pursuing Karlsson and getting Point signed, he's gonna have to move that Callahan contract. If he gets desperate enough maybe we can get that 1st or Foote. Never could have imagined I'd see the day a Foote played in Detroit though... I guess Chelly did it though Hedman - Karlsson McDonagh - Cernak Sergachev - Rutta/Foote That would be a pretty disgusting defensive lineup. 3 pretty elite Dmen with young soon to be elite Dmen supporting them.
