Doughty, a very similar Dman becomes an $11 million dollar player next year at 30. Karlsson will be gunning for $12 a year at 28. By the time Weber is 36 prices may be reaching $14 mil, almost double what Weber makes now. I guess it's all dependent on how his body holds up, which is admittedly a crap shoot.

So basically he makes 7.9 million till he's 40. I honestly think you guys are exaggerating a bit. It's not ideal, but this is consistently one of the best Dmen in the league and prices on Dmen are rising quickly. Weber may end up a steal at 38 years old. Chara is making like 5 mil at 42 right now and no one is complaining. I say this all with no consideration for what it would take to obtain him. But that said I HIGHLY doubt an amnesty buyout will be used on him as you both allude.

Sidenote: Any gun nuts on this board? Thinking about purchasing my first AR-15 soon. Pretty dead set on anything with a 7.62 round with a piston driven (Kalashnikov style) action. I think you guys seriously underestimate how much there is to be made/lost in exchange rates. That said, I dont think Oilers are going anywhere. Weve been saying theyre on the verge of greatness for like 10 years now though. But I have faith Holland can fix that team if the backroom lets him do his thing.

Honest question. Would anyone trade for Shea Weber right now? Cap and assets going back aside? I feel like sub 8 mil AAV for an allstar Dman isnt that bad anymore and will only continue to get better with time. Especially with guys like Karlsson who will be asking 10+. Length of contracr is an issue but I feel like Weber might hold up like Chelios did.

My exact thought too. WMU probably just wanted his heavy shot from the point. Here's a condensed highlight vid: He is definitely offensively minded. His wrist shot looks really good too. He also appears to be used in the shoot out quite a bit as well.

Do you even know what an M97 Flamethrower sounds like? It so loud it drowns out everything else. If you focus on that noise long enough you can almost convince yourself you don't hear the screams anymore. Then, once the tank is empty, everything's quiet again. Even the men are quiet. Probably not even really an Yzerman signing. He's a Western Michigan alum, and what with Blashill, Ferschweiler, Dekyser, Witkowski, and Mckee, he's probably been on the Wings radar for a while or at least in the past. From what I've been able to gather: Played forward up until college, where WMU switched him to D. Small guy during his draft year but hit a late growth spurt after being passed on. Is a decent skater for a big man, likes to rush the puck up the ice, solid offensive ability, known for his booming shot, plays soft for a big man and not very good defending in his own zone. Big bodied softies is nothing new for us, and in theory defense can be learned/taught. Key will be if he can learn to make his shot effective at the NHL level where timing and a quick trigger is everything. Could be a decent offensive weapon on the back end.

In this regard, who has the best flo on the team now? It was easily Zberg for years, but now it seems to me the torch has been handed to Bertuzzi, no? Zberg had that beautiful "I'm not g-ay, but I'd let that guy gimme a reach around" flo, whereas Tuzzi takes it in a whole new direction and seems to have more of a messy, rugged, "Ima smoke meth and then cut ur heart out with a screwdriver" type look going on. Different, but I like it. New team, new me.

Lol Yzerman is tearing this old boys club up. Ferschweiler only had that job because of Blashill. Blashill better come out guns blazing this season or he's gonna be packing his s*** too.

Hamilton/Faulk/Slavin are really good. And their other Dmen are lowkey really sound defensively.
