Pretty sure Kaski was in the works b4 Yzerman was even officially here. Maybe Steve just viewed him as a Holland-player and didn't really care. Still dumb though. 20 pts in 35 games for the checkers. Griffins didn't have a single Dman close to that pace. -

Have you seen this kid? He's like Tyler Bertuzzi + Nazi eugenics. Intelligence, mobility, size, gap-control, personality, courage, confidence, leadership, grit. This is a backbone player. A building block. As @Dabura likes to say, a tide that raises all ships. *folds legs to hide erection* I could not design a player like this in a lab. He has all the qualities that I like + the ones I forgot I liked. Forgive my comparison to Lidstrom, but he reeks of that steady Dman you kinda of forget about, but is secretly one of the biggest reasons you actually won cups... like Lidstrom. But then he's also violent like Konstantinov or Kronwall. If there exists a glimmer of hope on this team it is Seider. We all know Veleno is probably going to be an okay centerman. Zadina an okay winger. Larkin an okay leader and contributor. Hronek a steady presence. But Seider has potential for greatness. I truly believe that. This is the one player we have right now who could be talked about in a lot of circles one day. That jazzes me right up to the point where I wanna coom. -

Yeah, I've also said Brendan Smith is a raging dumpster fire who plays worse than a drunken chimpanzee on skates. Now do I actually think Brendan Smith is in a burning pile of garbage who would be outmatched by an intoxicated primate? No. Admittedly the monkey would probably have to be sober... Point being: If your play is to string me up for hyperbolic language it's a pretty weak play. Everyone here knows one another and there stances, and everyone knows I wouldn't argue that point. So I find it to be disingenuous and a complete waste of time to begin each conversation about Zadina on the premise that I think Zadina is a bust. In the point that you were responding to though I was trying to say that i think it's BS that there's a informal gag order on critiquing young players. It's dumb. Instead of talking critically about young assets we stick our heads in the sand and dismiss any negative takes on them. Bust-pilling LGW on Mrazek was like pulling teeth. But now in hindsight I'm sure most would say that kid was overhyped. That all said, Zadina is busting so hard right now -
It'll be bittersweet when I have to follow N to Seattle and change my allegiance. But it will all be worth it when N is dunking on the Red Wings with the Seattle Sustainable Whalers in their first year I've compared Ehn to Draper and said he might play 2nd line center, and in no way will I acknowledge that I'm getting in over my head.
-
Sadly I really think Ehn is doomed to be our exposed player at the Seattle entry draft. How much would you rather have a $1 mil, 20 pt, checking line Nosek instead of a $3 mil, 20 pt, Filppula right now? Franzen at least showed that flash of offensive brilliance in his draft year. Ehn's never really been a scorer anywhere. He looks like a younger Swedish Glendening to me. My impression with Handemark was Yzerman ended with Kadeykin instead. Maybe that's because Handemark chose the Sharks instead or because Kadeykin is actually better, IDK. It's too bad, I would've taken both. Lehtonen sounds good. I'll allow it.

And the point I made in response using my own experience with Zadina seems to have completely flown over your head. Nobody - beyond anyone engaging in hyperbolic language - is calling Jack Hughes a bust because he scored 20 something points at 18. That's the straw man right there. In reality Devils fans have every right to be disappointed in his performance thus far, and to question whether or not he was the best pick at #1 overall. That doesn't mean everyone think he's a "bust" but it certainly helps your POV to conflate it that way. The same straw man is done here to me with Zadina almost daily. "I don't think Zadina (hughes) will live up to the hype" "LOL you think he's a bust? That's stupid, you're stupid" It's like church law. Don't dare critique young players, especially good ones, that's heresy. And it's utterly apparent by the immediate dismisal of anyone with an opinion on a young player that isn't positive. -

Right. I think your POV is erroneously misconstrued as "Lafreneire won't go #1" at no fault of your own. Last year prior to the draft I fell into the trap of "I think Seider may lowkey be the best Dman in the draft... but Yzerman won't take him at #6". Like an idiot I bought into the prevailing narrative over my own good sense. Thank god Yzerman is smarter than me, because I woulda pulled a Holland and drafted a Zadina or Veleno or something instead of Seider. The player you're supposed to take. I don't really have a hard on for anyone in particular this year. But I hope Yzerman continues to ignore the media hype and does his own thing. If he wants say Sanderson at #2 overall sign me the f*** up. -

Ok so were you referring to Mackel or me...? No one's saying there isn't. There's plenty of players who go completely overlooked and end up as major contributors too. I fail to see the point you're trying to make here. Didn't think I blamed you for anything, but okay. Please point out where that occurred. -

It shouldn't even be exclusive to Wings fans. There's more than enough drafts where the #1 in hindsight wasn't the #1. But it's heretical and dangerous to sports dogma to even consider that the #1 hyped player shouldn't be drafted #1... I suspect the real root of the argument here is not "Lafreniere should go #1" it's "Lafreniere will go #1". And they're not wrong. Lafreniere probably WILL go #1. It's just an incredibly intellectually lazy POV. -

The same logic you're applying to Larkin v. Zetterberg I'm applying to Draper v. Ehn. You can't have it both ways. It's straight up cognitive dissonance. Larkin could be Zberg but Ehn can't be Draper: Cause narratives. Plenty of folks = Mackel and CRL Everyone knows who you're talking about, don't be coy I think it's hilarious that everyone here knows Mackel and I don't regard Zadina as someone who's not going to make NHL, but the strawman is so easy and irresistible you can't help but use it. I hope it continues.... Cause Zadina = bust. You're literally describing the NPC meme. Human1: What if Lafreniere isn't the best in the draft? Human2: Interesting thought. Who would be better? Human1: Rossi + reasons why Human2: Lafreniere + reasons why *A deeper understanding of Rossi and Lafren is reached* vs Human1: What if Lafreniere isn't the best in the draft? NPC: LOL that's stupid, you're stupid Human1: Care to explain why? NPC: No -

Zadina is your favorite strawman huh? You're getting taken to school on Ehn. It's humiliating for you I agree. The Glendening thing really rekt you're whole argument. Based on current career trajectories Ehn is gonna be way better than Kris Draper ever was. I'll acknowledge that Larkin is the next Z, just acknowledge that Ehn is the next Draper. Cool? Zadina looks like a pretty pedestrian average top6 winger. Kinda disappointing. LOL YOU THINK ZADINA IS A BUST??? HHAHA you're so stupid. Agreed. People are dumb. -

ChristopherReevesLegs replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
You really wanna bring up ur Ehn BS in this thread when you're getting rekt on that front to the point that you won't respond in others? By all means, just doesn't seem very wise to me from your POV. There's debate about whether or not Larkin is even a 1C, and you'd like to suggest he's better than HOF 1C captain, likely to get his number retired, Zberg? Go on keep talking and keep digging that grave. My point makes itself the more you talk. Stutzle seems like a bonafide good pick. Byfield has more of a boom/bust element to him. You hope because of his relative youth he's gonna be even better than Stutzle, but that runs the risk that there really isn't more there. At least not as much as Stutzle. -
Ehn played the least amount of minutes on any given night, and he still scored just as much as Abdelkader, Perlini, and Erne... while at the same time delivering better defense than all 3 combined. And he's only 23. Whether anyone likes it or not, this kid is poised to shoot up the depth chart. Glendening, Helm, and Filppula might all be traded next year, and Nielsen may never return to form. All of the sudden that makes Ehn - by way of necessity - a crucial center on this team. I mean there stands an honest possibility Ehn could even play 2nd line center at some point if Yzerman doesn't add NHL ready center prospects or UFA centers. Injuries, trades, and lack of depth could stick him right there in that case. Now I don't think Ehn should ever play top6, and I hope Yzerman puts other centers in those possitions, but I hope it drives home the point that this kid is prolly gonna be a 3rd line center on this team sooner rather than later. Ehn really reminds me of Helm. If he finds himself on a 3rd line with say Timashov and Zadina or something like that, we could easily be looking at a 25-30 pt forward just like Helm became for us.

Here's my question: Since Yzerman the captains have been: Yzerman, Lidstrom and Zetterberg. Does Larkin belong in the that circle? I don't think so. Z is the worst of the three and Larkin is gonna fall way short of Z's career. I think we wait and name Lafren or Seider or another pick C in a few years. -
From Fischer via Khan I would say if Ehn can get up to 210-215 lbs and mature his game where he is more aggressive and less passive the kid will be a monster, maybe even more so than Glendog.
-
Okayyyyyy why dont you make the same argument for Glendening? Ehn scores more per min of icetime than he does. Another question you righteously ignore: Why don't you see potential? I've asked multiple times. If you don't like his game, what don't you like? Again if it's offense he's already at Glendening level or higher.
-
Ehn is already more offensively productive at 23 than Glendening is at 30. 25-30 pts a season is an overly reasonable projection as his ice-time, growth, and experience increases. You might even say it's conservative given his youth and the experience he's gathered already. N hype is reaching new heights. Kid is cash money.

I can spend two years arguing about and extrapolating my position on Zadina with you, and still it has to be explained to you every time... I don't disagree with the bolded. I've never argued that Zadina won't be a top6er. Don't be so dense. My point (hopefully it clicks this time) is that 30 and 25 are larger numbers than 23 and 20. Players that are 23 and 20 tend to get better yet. Wouldn't you agree? Now you're just resorting to strawmanning. Explain to me what's so disheartening about Ehn's game. Why it's so much worse than Glendenings. I suspect you don't actually have anything of substance to say which is why you resort to fallacy. Which one would you keep out of Perlini, Ehn, and Erne? Come on, you can back-peddle faster than this. Soooooo you can't answer the question...? Ok, you love euros. So what's the significant difference then between Glendening and Ehn? I'd love to hear it. Who's gonna leave the team first? Perlini or Ehn?
-
Ehn scores more per 60 min of icetime then Glendening does. So again, if this is your argument then you should be making the same argument about Glendening. But you don't, because you're biased.
-
Which is the equivalent of me saying Mantha is one of the better top6ers in the league, but I see Zadina as a borderline top6er. Well of course Zadina isn't as a good as Mantha yet. One just finished a season at 25 and the other just finished a season at 20. Glendog just finished a season at 30, and Ehn just finished at 23. Does that click at all? Why? What is so significantly worse about Ehn's game compared to Glendenings? I'd argue Ehn is even ahead of Glendening in terms of development when comparing Glendog at the same age. So what, only players you decide you like can learn defense? Erne and Ehn no, Glendening and Perlini yes? You know exactly what I'm talking about. Now you think he's 'probably most likely' better than Andersson. Glad you're slowly getting on to the same page as everyone else. That doesn't answer the question. Why does it affect Larkin and not Ehn? Elaborate. I don't have a clue how one can apply that to one player and not another without being a total hypocrite and exposing blatant bias. And again I'd say you don't watch the games. Or at least you don't watch Ehn. He has the same superb textbook decision making that Glendening and Helm exhibit. It's boring to watch but it's effective systems hockey. What's the bias here? You like the NA guys but not the Euro? That's raciss Yet you enjoy all three zone blackholes like Perlini. The bias is palpable. Ehn is in all likely gonna be the player Seattle takes from us. Just like Nosek, also a good 4th line player. Nosek still not in Europe... hmmmm
