    2019 Trade Deadline

Yeah sorta like how McPhee just gave all those picks to Holland for Tatar without Ken even asking

    2019 Draft

Pure sniper. Excellent shot. One-dimensional. Hard-working. Decent offensive instincts. Average skating. Lacks explosive skating. Projection: 3rd line complimentary winger, similar to Martin Frk. Probably tops a 3rd round pick, more likely a 4th.

    2019 Trade Deadline

You're probably right... however I'm operating under the premise that Holland wanted Vanek here and Vanek wanted to be here. By all accounts that was the case. Holland's gets the limited term he wants, Vanek gets the trade protection he wants, everyone's happy and the deal is struck. 3rd round picks aren't very valuable btw. Chances of a 3rd rounder playing 100 games in the NHL are less than 30%, and chances of a 3rd rounder becoming a top 6 forward or top 4 Dman are less than 10%. Chances of a 3rd rounder becoming a 4th liner or worse hovers between 80% and 90%. Even 2nd rounders aren't very reliable picks these days.

    Fights

What's your definition of an enforcer these days? Someone who's only useful for fighting? Wilson is definitely a better player and has an offensive side to his game, but he seems to take being the tough guy on that team pretty seriously and consistently man-handles other guys in fights. Not sure if he and Reaves have ever gone at it, but I'm guessing they probably did when Reaves was a Penguin.

    2019 Trade Deadline

I mean Holland probably wanted the 35 year old on a 1-year deal, and Vanek wanted to be in Detroit... but Vanek is probably smart enough to know that if he signs a 1-year deal with a basement team he's gonna be trade fodder at the deadline again. Pretty reasonable to say he probably demanded an NTC in exchange for signing a 1-year. So we don't get a 3rd round pick for him this year, womp womp, that's better than committing term to a 35+ player at this point IMO

    2019 Trade Deadline

I'm relatively positive that when Vanek signed this summer it was specifically said that he requested the NTC because he did NOT want to be traded again at the deadline. Can't really blame the guy, he's been traded at the last 2 deadlines and has bounced around 6 different teams over the last 4 er 5 years. The mans got a wife and three kids, that's gotta take a toll on the family.

Sorry, I haven't really been following draft talk since like September/October, and there was lots of talk of Hughes #1 and Cozens #2 then.

Ordered Wings jacket from Fanatics on Jan 12

FYI fanatics is garbage. They're destroying the merchandise market peddling cheap goods. Definitely don't recommend. Not sure if they have what you're looking for, but try sportsk.com.They're a Michigan based sports company, and focus heavy on the Wings.

Rattie is garbage. He's playing on McDavid's line and has 9 points. He was a massive dissapointment for the Blues when he entered the league. 5 years later he's still a disappointment. I'll take a 22 year old defensively responsible Ehn over him anyday.

2/7 Chivalry Is Red GDT - Golden Knights @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET

Today is the 102nd anniversary of Boots McDingle's one and only hockey game. The year was 19 dickety 17. NHL players had gone off to fight for the French and the league had a shortage. Arena security wasn't as tight back then, and a homeless man wandered away from his burning trash barrel looking for a place to puke. He ended up in the old MSG, specifically in the visiting Toronto Maple Leafs water closet. An hour before puck drop (they called em puckleberrys in those days), the Leafs coach learned the news that one of his players had contracted cholera during the long and dangerous trek from Toronto to New York. If he didn't replace that player, they'd have to forefit. So ole Boots stumbled out of the bathroom, drunk off his own puke, and was signed right there on the spot (drunkeness was a sign of athleticism in those days). Wouldn't you know it, on his first shift he made NHL history by becoming the first player to crap his pants on the ice. He was assessed a 2 minute minor for getting his poo on the ice (poop was runnier in those days), but on his way to the box he asked the referee for spare change, when the ref declined ole Boots bit the referee, resulting in a 10 minute misconduct. Boots was so drunk he confused the penalty box for an outhouse which resulted in him being tossed from the game. He left the arena and went back to his burning barrel after collecting his one games worth pay of the NHL minimum $.55. It would be 82 years before another NHL player would enter a game at MSG intoxicated and immediately leave after the game to get drunk while standing next to a burning trash barrel (Theo Fleury). And that's the story of ole Boots McDingle, the worst player to ever play in the NHL. F
  20. Yeah sure, Kos could be some washed up old fool pulling my leg, he basically cited the fact that Chelios told him this. I just thought it was interesting because when I brought up the rumors that "Yzerman will probably be GM soon" Kos was basically like "psssssst... you didn't hear this from me, but Yzerman already is GM ya dumby" definitely was a fun convo to have.

    2018 Prospects Watch

Came here to post that McIsaac has 42 pts in 36 games, but looks like we're already talking about it. I still maintain he's going to turn out to be better than Veleno or Zadina. Sidenote, I've been watching Lethbridge and Cozens play a lot recently. I'm not all that impressed with Cozens. He's very big and athletic for a 17 year old. His body looks NHL ready... I just don't see the overwhelming dominance that justifies the talk of him being a potential 1st overall player. I think you go Hughes or Kakko without a doubt.
  22. 1. Me too, thanks 2. I made a illustration for our visual learners 3. Will be interesting to see what Yzerman does with Blashill. Does Stevie want to bring in his own guy?
  23. Sorry I've been AWOL everyone, been traveling heavy for work lately. Just need to pop my head in to share some possible insider info I picked up. Recently had a long conversation with Kyle Kos, former 2nd round pick of TBL back in 97. He never made the NHL, but bounced around the AHL, ECHL, and a few other leagues throughout his career. However he did play for the Vipers and the Motor City Mechanics during the lockout when Chelios, Avery, and Hatcher were there. He became good friends with Chelly during that time and knows the Wings brass decently enough. I believe @LeftWinger mentioned he heard a rumor from a friend of a Wings trainer earlier this season that Yzerman would be taking over in January. Obviously that didn't happen... or did it kinda? Mr. Kos told me, in not so many words, that Yzerman has been running the Wings since pretty much the moment he stepped down as GM of Tampa. His "advisory role" with Tampa is all show, as he is actually advising the Wings behind the scenes. Holland is all but a figurehead, and his voice has come in second to Yzerman's all season. Any trades we witness over the next month will be the work of Stevie Y, not Holland. Stevie will officially assume the title of GM when his contract on paper with Tampa expires this summer. At that time, Holland will graciously step-down and will join Seattle Hockey Ops under senior advisor Dave Tippett. Just prior to meeting Kyle Kos, I remember reading an article in the Seattle Times that had an interview with Dave Tippett. In the article Tippett basically alluded to the fact that he already had someone penciled in as his GM, and that the name would be "surprising" if he was able to share it *cough* Ken Holland *cough* TLDR: Yzerman is already Wings GM and Holland is already in Seattle all but physically. EDIT: Kos also said Avery is a super nice/cool dude in real life, and Kid Rock is super insecure and tries to be "one of the boys" whenever he's with Chelly and other pro athletes, but it just comes off as insecure and sad lol
