If I wasn't scarred by Blashill I'd say bring him in.

Too bad, I liked Todd

If Lafreniere pulls an Eric Lindros on the Wings
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to Scott R Lucidi's topic in General
I really have no problem with what Lindros did. He fully understood the amount of power over his own situation that he had and he decided to leverage that for something he wanted, or didn't want, and that was not playing in a French speaking province for an owner he didn't like. Shrewd move if you ask me. More players need to wake up and realize they have this authority over their own career. I have a lot more respect for the guy who says "I dont care that im the #1 overall I pick, I dont wanna waste my career in Ottawa" than the the guy who says "I'm just happy to waste my career wherever the NHL lottery decides". To address the topic of the thread - I dont wish it - but then again I almost do as well because maybe it finally make a few folks realize just how awful this team truly is when Laffy rejects us. And just how much tanking there still is to be done. -
The more and more his carer progresses, and the more and more we talk, the more and more you all reel in your expectations. Good. Baby steps. My point from day one was this isn't an elite player. Not a building block. The type of player - that we found at 6th overall - that Yzerman could find in the 4th round. He should be sold while he still has 6th overall hype attached to him. But god forbid anyone trust their instincts and act boldly and decisively. We will wait until he's the next Nyquist and then trade him at a marginal return. Quote me there. Save it. Cause it's certainly gonna be the first thing I'm gonna post on Zadina trade day when he goes for a 3rd and a 5th.

Trading Saaarijarvi (very low end prospect) and DLR (career 4th liner) was one thing. But moving picks, Regulas, and Kaski's has me boggled on wtf he was thinking. Firstly, trading picks and viable prospects runs counter to a rebuild. I give him more benefit of the doubt on Erne cause it was an offseason trade, but with Perlini did he honestly think this player was gonna alter the direction of the team even if he did workout?? Its seems like a pressured panic move. With Kaski, Todd Nelson wasn't playing him, so I get it. Go get a player your coach actually wants to play. But then Kaski lights it up with the checkers the moment he's given ice time. Sure seems like Yzerman let Nelson's opinion supersede his own on the player. It's an indication that not only Todd Nelson might not know exactly what he's doing, but Yzerman also then put his stamp on it. If Yzerman is the smart man I think he may be, he will finish the cleaning of the house he started. Fire Todd Nelson. Fire Jeff Blashill. Fire whatever scout that said anything nice about Pelini, and fire the core. Start over, there's no repercussions for starting over at the bottom. The more pain we endure now the more gain we get later.

Yzerman got absolutely fleeced by Bowman. Big, mobile, smart, RH, Dman from Detroit, over a ppg at 19... for 39 games and 4 pts for Perlini in a tank year. He's lucky Detroit fans are dumb enough to look the other way because of his name. Anybody else would get thrashed for this.

In hindsight all the trading outside of Fabbri was pretty retarded. The only caveat is he didn't lose very much (besides maybe Regula, we'll see)
-
I don't disagree. But I think that reaction is in the moment so to speak. Eventually it would be remembered as a massive blunder and fans wouldn't shut up about it for years. Like Ken choosing Franzen over Hossa or something, but even worse.

"With the 2020 1st overall pick the Detroit Red Wings are proud to select - from SKA St. Petersburg of the VHL - Yaroslav Askarov"
-
Just imagine if you trade up to get a Nolan Patrick, while the pick you gave Yzerman turns out to be Elias Pettersson. That's basically career ending, or at least current job ending, in one move. It's bad optics. Not worth the risk.

Substance? This isn't substance. PP1: Same old 'hope' argument I just disparaged PP2 & 3: Confused hyping of an entirely different player not named Zadina Do you have an opinion on Zadinas actual performance? Like play style? Strengths and weaknesses? I've watched 2 years of him now and I feel like I have decent understanding of this player. Curious to know what your take is.

I think moving around in the top5 is a lot harder than anyone thinks. Even if you wanna move down. If it wasn't extremely difficult it would happen more often, but it rarely if ever does. First consider what holding a top5 pick is like without considering trading within the top5. It's a poker game. Everyone trying to figure out who the other ones are going to take. So you're reluctant to discuss anything truthfully. Not very conducive to trade. Imagine for a sec Yzerman calls you offering the first overall pick to move back. My immediate thought would be: What does he know that I don't? That - however slight- paranoia is enough to kill any deal IMO. Yzerman is a shark. No one wants to get burned by him and wreck their career in a very rare and controversial trade. That reputation defense alone would make most not even consider it I'd think. I suspect this won't alleviate your worries though. It's hard to trade those picks + Yzerman has already proved he's willing to buck the system and reach down (Seider). But if it's another Seider maybe we should trust him?

Oh f*** yeah he is. Picked dead last (9th round) as a forward. Converted to D after being drafted and still played 700 NHL games.
-
There's no brakes on Stevie Y's wild ride
-
No, 7th rounders can only be busteroonis
-
Whether or not he projects as a bust or beneath hes pedigree is almost beside the point. Both are dissapointments and we can cash in on him now while he still has some hype. In 3 or 4 years when its clear hes only a medicore top6er his value will have dropped.
-
So we agree then that Zadina is a disappointment?

Spent half my childhood on a farm and work in the ag sector now, so I know the life. I don't dislike being a cosmopolitan, but I much prefer the rural lifestyle agreed.

Are you taking like a 6 hour commute to DC daily? Sister is in the medical field. Pretty sure she was just sick of most of her patients being obese and addicted oxy.
-
Looking closer at Kadyekin, it seems he's really good at faceoffs and as a shot blocker at forward, although not very physical for a big defensive guy. His ceiling is probably like Glendening, realistically probably a big Ehn, worst case scenario total busterooni

You know I'm not really into media/fan draft rankings at all For that reason I'd love to see Yzerman not pick Lafreneire 1st overall, and basically give a finger to every amateur scout and bogus media ranking out there. The hockey community: "Lafreniere is the undisputed 1st overall, generational talent" Yzerman:

I definitely like to hope - just like with Seider - that the Wings have their man picked. That gives me a lot of confidence. I will laugh so hard my sides will be in orbit if we take Stutzle over Lafreniere first overall. The absolute cojones of that move would be amazing. The NHL: Me:
-
Purely for the German-Connection I'd take Stutzle and Rossi. Would be pretty sick to have that possible high-end C depth, and not one but two players that can speak kraut with Seider.
