HSJ sure seemed to think the Red Wings will waive Abby to make room for Svech in her last piece.
-
IDK but this tweet in particular is quite telling Maybe it's an off-ice issue? Cost not being prohibitive screams that to me. Arizona giving up on Strome super early is a little suspicious too... Chayka has been pretty active at purging "problem" players quickly over his career ala Perlini, Galchenyuk, Duclair, DeAngelo. Besides DeAngelo all those guys have moved on past the team they were traded to already, including Duclair and Perlini with Chicago. Maybe it's the same situation with Strome?

HSJ: Red Wings who probably won't be back Abdelkader: Contract too big, so he won't get bought out. Likely to be waived to the AHL. Wings gain $1 mil in cap relief and the roster spot. Daley: gone Ericsson: gone Goloubef: gone Howard: gone Perlini: gone Bernier: starter Bertuzzi: long-term deal Bowey: probably will be back, but may not last long Ehn: extension Erne: extension Fabbri: mid to long extension Filppula: trade bait Gagner: possible 1 year deal Glendening: trade bait Helm: trade bait Hronek: long term extension Larkin: captain Lindstrom: probably back n forth between GR and DET still Mantha: 1 year deal or long term extension Nemeth: likely Seider's D partner next year Nielsen: hope that he will rebound Timashov: extension Blashill: most likely gone, but may remain in the organization in a different capacity

I believe we first started discussing this last year as soon as Yzerman was hired, but we may as well hearken back to it now. How Yzerman handles these RFAs is everything, and will be easy indicators of the teams direction. If Mantha gets handed a 5 - 7 year contract this summer, that tells me Yzerman sees him as core piece to build around for the foreseeable future. If he gets a 2 - 3 year deal though... (unless Mantha explodes and becomes an elite player) it would suggest to me he'll likely be traded in the near future. Same goes for just about every RFA we have. What I like about Yzerman is that he is decisive. Much more so than Holland ever was. Regula not part of Yzerman's future plan? Trade him. Athanasiou not part of the plan? Trade him. I suspect that any player he doesn't regard as part of his rebuild will be dealt with similar decisiveness, within practicality IDK what Mantha would fetch, but I'm at the conclusion that if we want something for any of these players we should do it ASAP. There's a window of opportunity that we can exploit to reach critical mass. That window opened in 2018 and it will likely close within the next 1-5 seasons. While this window is open we need to flood the team with young potentially elite talent. The alternative wait and see approach means we hold onto our current core players, pick higher, and pick less. Basically, do we wanna pick in the 5-15 range once a year and trade Mantha in a few seasons? Or pick in the 1-5 range once a year and add multiple supplementary picks now, by trading Mantha now. In theory I prefer the later. I regard Mantha as a good player, but not as the next Ovechkin or anything. Therefore he's expendable to me.

Oh s*** your right. He's f***ed lol Thanks for the recommendation. I'll watch. Sister of mine took a job in the heart WV a while back, cause she's big hiker/backpacker and likes the Appalachians and thought she'd love it there. She only lasted 2 years lol but had some interesting stories about the populace to say the least... truly a special place

No doubt adding an Oshie is a big add for this team. But that's always been my point with Zadina. It's a Oshie/Tatar/Nyquist/Hudler addition. It's not going to fix the team, and in fact it may end up delaying a rebuild. I want elite players, everyone else can burn for all i care. Consider me black-pilled I think this team has deep seated problems. Reliance on Larkin/Mantha/Bertuzzi/Fabbri/Hronek is a crutch. Most of these players will only end up delaying the rebuild. Maybe a few of them survive and help return us to glory at a later date. But certainly not all of them will be here. We need Crosby's/Mackinnon's/Eichels... not Larkin's and Manthas. And if trading helps us get there faster im for it. Timing does matter in my mind
-
Correct. We used to think Howard was average. Now we thinks he's awesome.
-
If we're defining bust as 100% not in the league, then yeah. But "zagina = bust" is just a meme. We've argued from day 1 that Zadina is more similar to Hudler, Nyquist, Tatar and is not a cornerstone player that we should bank on for the future. And we endured a lot of grief for that. Oshie is A LOT closer to a Hudler, Tatar, Nyquist, so yeah it feels like the white knights of Zadina are starting to wake up and smell the zagina.

I'm with you. This is a 5-10 year rebuild in my mind.

I'm not too worried bout it. If we're making the Hedman comparison, Hedman was in the Lightning's top4 as a 18/19 year old logging 20 minutes a night. If Seider can do that next year and score 20 pts (like Hedman) that will be outrageously positive for this team. I'm not positive Seider will ever be a 70+, 60+, 50+ pts Dman, but if he gets to that after 5 seasons I'll consider it a welcome bonus.
-
I don't think he has to pass through waivers to start in GR. I'm inclined to give him another half season just cause of the injury BS.
-
Wow smart take Guess we should waive Larsson. Larsson = not NHL caliber player Guess we should trade Grewe for peanuts. Grewe = not NHL caliber player Guess we should trade Cholowski for peanuts. Scores less than Kaski in the AHL. Cholowski = not NHL caliber player Guess we should trade Hronek for a couple 2nds. He had the worst +/- of any Dman in the league. God tier asset management right there.

I have no idea if it's legal or not, but either way I don't think the PA is any position to stage a riot. They're in a position of weakness, because no matter what they choose players will be getting bought out. It'll just be against the cap or not. The reason they won't like compliance is because it will motivate teams like us to buy out an Abby, whereas we may not have before... even if the cap went down. IDK I think two compliance buyouts is insane and ridiculous. But maybe 1 is a nice concession.

Lets see what Yzerman does. There's not a lotta room if he's re-signing all the RFAs and Gagner. And I'm expecting stiff competition from Svech, Hirose, and Smith at this point too. Anybody who can be sent down w/o waivers is probably the odd man out until injuries occur. I won't be sad if a 20 year old gets held back lil extra. f*** Carol Baskin #FreeTheTigerKing That's al I got to say

No worries, just look at Turris's usage. Ottawa: Consistently playing 19+ minutes a night. Scoring 50+, 60+ pts. Goes to Nashville and is immediately cut to 15+ minutes a night and only scores around 40 pts a season. I'm kinda like well no duh his scoring tapered-off, so did his ice time. Now I don't think we should play Turris 19+ minutes a night, I don't even think we should play Larkin 19+. I'd like to see Larkin at 18. Turris at 17. And Fil and Glendening at like 13 n 12. I think the worry with Turris is the attitude he's been rumored to have. Sure seems like neither Laviolette or Hynes cared much for him. Both throwing him on the 4th line more than enough. But this looks semi-decent: Bertuzzi - Larkin - Zadina Fabbri - Turris - Mantha Helm - Filppula - Glendening Timashov - Ehn - Erne two pretty young scoring line, a verteran shutdown 3rd line, and a kids line
-
First off, both could be moving on, though I think both will stay with their respective teams. AA being RFA and Detroit needing vets (who can actually contribute) that can possibly play 2C. Athanasiou - career 117 pts in 303 games (avg 0.39 pts per game) Gagner - career459 pts in 844 games (avg 0.54 pts per game) Athanasiou has the advantage of his youth and playing on a much better Edmonton team, but then Gagner will only be turning 31 in august (AA turns 26 in the same month) so he's certainly not over-the-hill yet. Imagine if both players have something like a 40 pt season next year. Will Holland neck himself knowing he gave up two 2nd rounder for a lateral move?

From what hell have you come?
-
Love Rasmussen, but I don't think he's guaranteed a spot on the team next year. I see him starting the year in GR again and competing with Smith/Svech/Hirose for the #1 callup title. If Kadeykin is coming over at 27 I doubt it will be for AHL time.
-
Too much math and too many teams, but yeah if the cap goes down and/or we get compliance buyouts it will be very good for us and more and better players will def be available to us. Dabura mentioned Turris, but there's probably gonna be many more
-
Yup. Compliance buyout Abby, regular buyout Nielsen. That would free up almost $6 million next year and two roster spots. Then we just have to stomach that $4.4 cap hit for one year and we're free n clear. In the reverse we save 7.45 next year, but then we have to deal with Abby's 1-2 mil cap hit for the next FIVE YEARS. f*** that. We're not gonan spend to the cap anyway so screw the extra 1.5 we save by using a compliance on Nielsen.
-
Cap hits if bought out today: Abdelkader (6 years): 2020/21: $1.8 2021/22: $2.3 2022/23: $2.3 2023/24: $1 2024/25: $1 2025/26: $1 Nielsen (4 years): 2020/21: $3.4 2021/22: $4.4 2022/23: $650K 2023/24: $650K If I had to straight buy one out it would be Nielsen. The buyout is two years shorter, and after you get over the the hump of the first 2 years the cap hit is marginal. So it's really only a two year buyout compared to Abby's 6 years. Also consider that Abby is a fresh 33 and Nielsen is about to turn 36. Nielsen is gonna get a lot worse a lot faster.

Yes, I have no interest in getting rid of Dekeyser for the time being. Helm was also low-key one of our best players last year, very unappreciated for how well he played relative to the rest of the roster. But I get the sense he'll likely be traded at the TDL will miss that guy. Nielsen plays solid defense at center, his scoring has just completely dried up. For a team lacking competent centers all-around I think that's the only thing keeping him alive. Very disappointed in Abby. He needs to become a hard-nose grinder and lead this team with old-school physicality and fights or something. But instead he lost weight last summer to slim down and get "faster" except he will never be a fast player no matter how much weight he loses and he just looked even more invisible last year. The buyouts on Abby and Nielsen just look rough if they are not compliance buyouts. If we were competitive and needed the cap they would make more sense. I think it's prolly just better to scratch them or demote them until we get a compliance buyout to use.
