I'd be be livid too if I was a Habs fan. Imagine watching the last 2 Red Wings season. Livid yet? Now imagine watching it, but in French... -
Here's where I'd like to make a distinction: Having a good camp versus stealing a job. Did Hicketts have a good camp last year? Yes, I think we both agree. Did Hicketts steal a job at camp? This is maybe where we disagree. I think to steal a job at camp you have to blow the doors off the team. I mean you have to have Larkin level skill, and even more so maybe as a 5'8" player. Hicketts just doesn't have that, at least not yet anyway. Did Hicketts have a good camp? Yes. Did some players have not-so-good camps? Yes, but that doesn't mean I'm now clamoring to trade those players away just because of one bad camp.. just like I'm not clamoring to get Hicketts on to the roster after one good camp. Camp is camp, it's such a ridiculously small sample size that I don't think you can gain a lot of insight from it. And I think Hicketts is a superb example of that sampling error is action... He had the few games that were great, but then his AHL season was completely sub-par. That confirms, in my mind, that your operating under a premise that is couched in sampling bias. Anyhoo, I'd see your POV more if Hicketts was say 24 years old... At that point I'd at least understand that it's almost the end of the line for this player, let's see what we've got in him.. But he was 21, he's got plenty of time yet to hone his craft and be ready to do good when the big club calls again. So my attitude is: Good camp kid, build on it.

I tend to agree with you. This is our second year outside the playoffs, proving the problem is not a one season anomaly but an actual systemic issue that needs to be addressed. We've managed to shed some larger contracts (Mrazek, Tatar, and possibly Green) giving us more space to maneuver underneath the cap. We have excess picks and players rights that can be packaged in deals. We have 2 major RFAs that need contracts. Which should be motivation enough to do any wheeling and dealing that's necessary. I think all the conditions are right for a more excitable draft/July than usual. -

You're really pulling a lot out of the phrase "give it time". I'm not saying give it time as in give him 5 years in the NHL then watch him burnout. I'm saying wait till next month when he has zero NHL offers... To be clear, I think there's still a possibility he may get a cheap contract at some point if he's willing to take one. After all Pulkkinen is still technically under NHL contract as well. The heart of my point was Pulks and Frk are essentially the same useless player. Below average at everything wingers, besides their wicked RH shots. It's precisely why Pulks didn't succeed in the NHL back when, and I'd bet it's why the team is rumored to be cutting Frk loose now. I've had to wait a whole year for this "told ya so" let me enjoy it. In the meantime, you can look on my mighty crystal ball yee mortal and despair One mention of a similar player and suddenly the argument is only about comparing those two players, don't encourage them. The answer is: Pulkkinen and Frk are both trash, plan n simple -
Which I've addressed. You're not addressing my counter point, just saying "wrong"

First bold: You keep bringing up this season. Everyone agrees he's going to get his shot this year... Not that he should get a shot, that he's going to get his shot. There's no argument to be had, so I don't why you keep throwing it in, we're talking about this past season exclusively. Second bold: My eyes can't roll any harder. You're acting like he's not being given any opportunity and that he won't be on the roster full time in a few months, when it's pretty much confirmed he will. AGAIN, Hicketts path to the NHL has been one of the fastest we've seen for a Red Wings defender. And that's a defender that you admit probably won't ever climb out of a bottom pairing roll. Based on that fact there should be no need to rush this mans career, yet it is being rushed anyway! There's literally nothing to complain about...
