Looking at the updated cap-friendly, the glaring problems to me are the Dekeyser and Neilsen contracts...

Disney Buys Star Wars, 3 New Films Coming

SPOILER ALERT Just got back from the Solo movie. Average to say the least. Nothing ridiculous like in the last movie, but I wasn't blown away either. Donald Glover was super hyped for this film and I felt his performance was completely forgettable. I didn't find anything charming or memorable about Lando's character. Han was kinda just blahhh too. And Woody Harrelson? Really? I dunno, I just felt it was a lazy choice. Didn't mind the pacing of the movie, no glaring pot holes, yada yada yada the thing with this movie is all my mind goes back to is the reintroduction of Darth Maul. Clearly he has survived the removal of his legs by Obi Wan, and is still practicing on the darkside. In my mind all this says is that the Kenobi movie of Obi Wan after the clone wars is gonna be about a rematch with Maul, where Kenobi finally kills him, avenging Liam Neeson once and for all. Also Disney just confirmed a Boba Fett movie

Soooooo "the same thing" is signing players every year...? That's what a sports team does...

Red Wings Sign Slovak G Patrik Rybar to Entry Level Contract

Metaphors have to make some semblance of sense. How many young goalies have come out and said the red wings screwed them? This ones different because apparently it makes leftwinger scared

Athletic article (behind pay-wall) says Griffins coach Todd Nelson is listening to offers from NHL teams for assistant coaching jobs.

Red Wings Sign Slovak G Patrik Rybar to Entry Level Contract

Machovsky Warns Rybar He Is Making A Big Mistake Czech article. Basically Machovsky says Rybar is making a mistake and will not get a chance in Detroit. Machovsky said he felt like the door was closed on him before he even got to the team. Says he found out after the fact that the only person who wanted him on the team was the farm-team goaltending coach (I assume he means the Griffins whose goalie coach is Brian Mahoney-Wilson). If all true, maybe the Red Wings front office just never cared about this guy and only signed him to be a warm body for the AHL/ECHL. If that's the case he"s not much of a loss at all, but it's still kind of dooshy of the Red Wings to sign a young guy that they have no intention of developing. Anyway, if anyone's still mad about this, I believe it's Ryan Martin's job to manage the minor league teams.

I think if Machovsky had any NHL potential other teams would be calling on him. Maybe im wrong, but i dont see that happening.

I think it's understated how effective the modified trap was against Winnipeg. The jets had a real tough time entering and setting up, and Vegas is a fast team, every turnover in the nuetral zone results in Vegas counterattacking with speed. I think if Ovie puts this on his back the caps got it. But if they give Vegas any wiggle room theyre gonna be in trouble.

Red Wings Sign Slovak G Patrik Rybar to Entry Level Contract

Sure, all good points, I just usually believe there's a reason for most things. I don't think Holland sat in a room with his staff and rolled dice to decide which goalie went to Toledo. I don't think Fischer, Havluj, and the rest of the scouting staff spent good man hours scouting this guy just to decide "lol screw Machovsky, lets make him rot in the minors" either. Maybe once they got their hands they felt he wasn't worth developing farther? Maybe, despite Machovsky's stats, they clearly agreed McCollum was a better player and was more valuable to the team if something happened to the starting goalies and they didn't want him abandoning for Europe if sunk in the ECHL. Maybe he's a talented player with zero work ethic? Maybe he's got a crap personality and his teammates and coaches hated him? Maybe he had to be disciplined by the team? Maybe he's a drunk? Maybe he's on drugs? None of this proves my point, I just tend to believe there's probably a reasonable explanation somehwere that we're just not ever gonna hear, because losing Matej Machovsky is so beyond insignificant it doesn't warrant one. It's either that or I'm totally misguided and Holland just sits around in his office all day with a cooking pot on his head banging it with wooden spoons until it's time to read goodnight moon and go night night. At the end of the day, like I was saying, this loss is so insignificant I don't really care too much. I agree this team should be developing its younger players, I'm sure we all do, but lets be honest, neither Machovsky or McCollum are ever gonna be NHL goaltenders. They're spare parts. Even Rybar is probably not gonna be much of anything. But new things are fun and we can hope! I'm not gonna judge the Red Wings brass on this one, its whatevs to me.

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread

I love that youve decieded to run with this quote. Its from the radio interview a month back that I know we both listened to because you posted about it. So everyone knows... What essentially Holland said: I have no problem drafting smaller skilled Dmen, but one cant build a team out of only small Dmen. What this means in Leftys mind: If Holland doesnt draft a large Dman with the first pick in 2018 he is a liar and we are doomed to repeat the last 7 years of mediocrity, and signing a young goalie is proof of this. Youre absolutely right lefty, these truly are spoooooky times lol

So page 1 is signing young goalies and page 2 is drafting short defenders. Got it. Well folks we got Rybar, therefore were drafting Hughes. Leftys done the math.

Red Wings Sign Slovak G Patrik Rybar to Entry Level Contract

Thats one perspective on Machovsky. I see it more as, we gave him a shot, but he turned out to be worse than McCollum and Coreau. He never earned a spot in GR. If that makes him disgruntled and he wants to return to Europe... see ya! No real loss on our part. Im already more intrigued by Rybar than I ever was with Machovsky. In regards to Pettruzzeli I disagree. Hes an ok prospect, but Larsson... wow, now thats our guy.

Pronman has his draft rankings up now, but behind a pay-wall. Someone told me he's got Hughes at 5 and Bouchard at 18! Pronman ranks prospects based who has the highest ceiling, and he doesn't favor size or physicality at all. Purely ceiling and skill based ranking. I think he probably has a problem with Bouchard's skating, he's supposedly not the best skater.

Red Wings Sign Slovak G Patrik Rybar to Entry Level Contract

This makes absolutely zero sense What is page 1? Signing young goaltenders to play in the AHL? Yes, he does this do this when needed. All teams do. Would you have him not? How would you prefer he have addressed the hole at goalie in GR? Not sign anyone? Re-sign McCollum? Coreau? Sign a veteran AHLer? Did you have someone specific in mind? Now let's talk about page 2 in this book of yours... what is it? Clearly you have some idea of what it is, and it's a negative thing to you. So spill already, I don't wanna ask a third time. Is it signing a veteran to a bloated contract? Signing a scrub like Witkowski? Lastly, whatever "page 2" may be, what is the connection between page 1 and 2? Because he signed a similar player to Machovsky, that leads you to believe he'll now sign a player similar to Trevor Daley??? If that's the type of connection you're trying to make, well it's completely illogical. Signing a goaltender for GR is not an indicator of anything... other than we will likely have a new goalie for GR. I never realized signing an ELC player to fill a minor need in the AHL could be so scary... maybe cause it's not.

2018 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs Thread

I don't disagree with you. I do think Vegas will win the cup this year for a variety of reasons, but I don't think they'll be a perennial contender like the Hawks or Pens were/are. I easily see them missing the playoffs next year, wouldn't be surprised at all. But that doesn't change the fact that I think Gallant managed this team magnificently. I really don't pay a ton of attention to the coaching side of the game, but Vegas actually sparked my interest in it this year, I think this is the most well coached team this league has seenn in a good while. Gallant was meant for this assignment. I dont think it can be overstated. He loves Mrazek and hates Vegas... see where those choices get you in life... He's also an admitted Flyers fan who consistently trolls this board. Gotta hand it to him thou, he's a decently talented troll, he's no Axe thou...

Is better than Babcock? Completely understand and completely disagree. I normally s*** on those who invoke the eyeball test to prove their point, but in this case I'm going for it. I absolutely see a player capable of 60 pts with 30+ of those being goals, and a guy who should flirt with 70 pts in a year or two. I have nothing to base this on other than what I see on the ice. He's a head above Tatar and Nyquist IMO even if the numbers don't reflect that yet. I'm very excited to see what a more mature 25-26 year old Mantha can do.
