Red Wings Sign Slovak G Patrik Rybar to Entry Level Contract
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to ChristopherReevesLegs's topic in General
Good lord. Because he signed a European player to an entry level contract that means he's going to "do the same things he always does"? What does that mean exactly? "do the same things he's always done"? By signing a young Slovak goaltender this leads you to believe he will now sign Stephen Weiss again? Please explain, I'm stumped as to what this tells you... Holland has openly stated he always wants at least 5 goalies under contract in the system. 2 for Detroit, 2 for GR, and 1 for Toledo. Right now he has Howard and Fulcher signed, with Mrazek and Machovsky gone, and McCollum and Coreau as pending UFAs. He essentially has to sign 3 goalies at least this offseason. Maybe he re-signs McCollum and Coreau, maybe not, either way he has replace Machovsky and Mrazek's spot. Rybar sounds like he might be able to replace Mrazek as backup, but can definitely at least hold down the GR starting job. OOOOOOOO a spooky GR back up goalie, I hope Holland's not up to his spooky ways of signing minor league goalies to support our AHL team again. That would scare me. Good signing. His record in Europe is better than Machovsky's was. Low risk, possibly high reward. 2 more goalies at least to go, I hope they're not McCollum or Coreau TBH -

3 reasons: Gallant, coaching, and Gallant. Vegas has on paper a great goalie with what almost everyone considered a mediocre to low end team in front of him. But Gallant got them to buy into his system and play a complete, hard-working, non-selfish, team game. The fact that many of these players had their former team "pay" to get rid of them probably left some big chips on shoulders too, and I'm sure they all had a huge desire to prove everyone wrong. Gallant has also publicly stated that he does not reprimand his players for mistakes at all. He simply puts it behind them and moves forward. So I'd say he's running a very non-disciplinary style... a players coach. Which is probably how he got them to buy into his system. His system from what I can tell is a heavy forecheck in the O-zone and a modified trap in the neutral/D-zone. They really dig and try to force turnovers in the O-zone and immedately throw pucks on net once they do get the turnover. It's a fast paced, in your face, offensive style. Then on D they fall back into a trap where they wait for you to make a mistake. As soon as the mistake is made, just like in the o-zone, they pounce and get the puck to the net quickly. Gallant does not slow down the game at all. He's got them working like a machine and it's worked. -

Youre trolling. No one called Vegas to even glimpse the playoffs this year, including yourself. Youre arguing this all after the fact just to argue. GMs gifted Vegas that roster and pick spread with their panic trades leading into the expansion. Its well documented and talked about. And even then their roster isnt that good on paper. Their season has been a product of MAF, Gallants intense system and relaxed coaching, and a group of players with a chip on their shoulders playing an 110% team first game at 110%. Its a great underdog story, and theres already talks it will be made into a movie if they win it all. This is unprecendented in the world of sports. Seattles probably not goona be as good because i think a lot of GMs are learning their lesson right now bc of how stupid they look. Youre either trolling or clueless. Im not gonna engage either. Peace. -

I like to think about it from an owners perspective as well... if i owned Toronto, Detroit, or Ottawa would I want a new team going into Hamilton? f*** no, and Id fight to keep the league out. Same with QC from Montreals perspective. Do any owners give a monkeys ass if a team goes into Vegas or Seattle? Not at all. In fact if Im vancouver I might encourage it with seattle bc it will likely bring on a new rivalry that can boost sales. -
I have cursed him with the suck. Now we must trade.

In theory you're not wrong, but in reality ever more markets are buying the product. I think youre vastly underestimating the size and potential of the U.S. market. Sure Atlanta failed, and Arizona looks weak, but for each of these failures theres also major success stories. The growth of the sport in California has been tremendous. Vegas has skyrocketed into popularity (I was there a week ago and the city is golden knights obessed). Texas has done well enough that the league has pegged Houston for the next expansion after Seattle. Kansas has appeared as a blip on the radar... Theres good reason the league is not choosing QC to expand into. Canada is a saturated market. A QC team wouldnt create a ton of new Canadian fans, it would simply steal a bunch of Montreal fans. Aka market cannibalizing. Canada is already hockey crazy, theres no new markets to capture. America has hundreds of millions of potential fans that havent discovered that hockey is the best sport on earth yet. Canada doesnt even have a 100 million people... -

In America weve seen Minnesota, Hartford, and Atlanta go defucunt. With Minnesota returning. In Canada weve seen QC and Winnipeg defucunting, with Winnipeg returning. Based on the ratios of teams to fans its still in favor of the states. Simply put, Canada has no more markets to expand into, and America has many. I don't get why this is so hard to unnderstand. Sure canadian fans are more loyal, but there arnt enough of them to make the math work... America still has huge open markets and dollars to capture. Sure Joe-Bob down the street will buy lemonade at your stand everyday, but its smarter to sell one glass once a month to every single person in the town. Its called scaling and its business 101 . -

I like the Wahlstrom. I do. But Wahlstrom isnt clearly the better pick than Bouchard at this point. And Im normally for drafting the best player available, but in the case Im siding with team need. And that is defense. We have Larkin and Rasmussen down the middle and Mantha at wing. These are pretty much sure things. Who knows where the rest end up. We have no sure things at D. We need a sure thing at D. Im a Bouchard guy. -

Theres about 5 million Canadians (and change) per each Canadian team. Theres about 13 million Americans (and change) per each American team. Hurr durrr, I wonder why the league wants to expand into America, hmmmmm real brainteaser this one is -

Well you glossed over the fact that he was making an obvious joke, but lets digest... Oh boo hoo, salty Canadians will stop watching if the last Canadian team is eliminated... Some hockey nation you are... here's an idea, maybe a Candian team should ice an actual championship team for once. There's absolutely nothing the league does that favors American teams over Canadian ones. If all the Canadian teams are out it's their own fault, not the leagues. I also find it somewhat humorous that the Jets have the most American players... Vegas had a very favorable draft format? What planet are you on? I literally dont think anyone pegged them to even make the playoffs until the 2nf half of the season. Even in the first rounds of the playoffs experts were writing them off as a big fluke. Fans think the Vegas situation is ridiculous? Then they are idiots. If Vegas wins the cup this year it will be one of the biggest underdog stories in sports history. A very cool thing for Vegas and hockey, that will grow the sport. I have nothing against Canada, but you literally just sound like a salty Canadian/Jets fan. -

Now I want Bouchard Id want a fast skating, hard-nosed, big bodied, shutdown Dman to pair with a guy like Boqvist. Boqvist - Mckee ... would have made a great pair -
Because hes a 21 year old former first rounder. The longer we hold on to him while the suck continues, the more value he loses. Pretty basic stuff. If we want to get the most value for him we should act now.

I just think he'd be overvalued around the league right now. Carolina might want him to pair with his brother... maybe hes the piece that nets us Faulk or something?

Im not even gonna enjoy the film now bc im gonna be nervously scanning the theater trying to figure out who whitelightning91 is. Whitelightning91, ill be the guy in a Konstantinov CCCP jesey (red/blue) and ill be smuggling a bottle of wine in if you change ur mind... perhaps you prefer some actual whitelightning? Got that too, but I kinda wanna remember the film... -
No Svechnikov is not good. At most he is a Riley Sheahan. AKA completely replaceable. And Sheahan at least plays responsible center defense. Name one thing impressive about Evgenys game... you cant bc he doesnt do anything exceptionally well. Hes average AF. And off the puck hes not fast, postionally sound, or gritty. He screams trade ASAP b4 other teams figure this out. Remember golden boy Mrazek? Everyone fought me tooth n nail, but the golden boy was in the end a failure. Sechnikov is the same story... but Im a patient man. Ill wait and tell you "ha ha told ya so" when the time comes... just dont be surprisedin 2 years when it happens
