I believe thems is fancy words for a blood clot. They kept Stamkos out for about 3 months. Hopefully he's ready to go in the fall. So no Turgeon or Lorito. Bummer.

We didn't try trading those players until we were out of the playoff picture. Daley was signed 8 months prior to any of that. He was signed as a veteran with recent cup winning experience that could help the team Good cap hit for what he brings, a player that brought some stability to our crumbling blue line.

Oh yeah, too young for the AHL. Maybe that gives him an even better shot at making the team?

Official 2018 Off Season *Rebuild* Thread

Since Ras plays in my area and I've gotten to watch him a few times, I posted earlier this season that I thought the kid really had the potential to be a beastly dominant player but the points weren't showing that. He really knows how to use his size and reach to his advantage. I didn't know why the points weren't coming in even stronger for him, but I guess now we can probably chalk it up to his injury and him most likely rehabbing it and looking out for his health all season. Now that he's in the playoffs he's absolutely flipped the switch and gone full Franzen-postseason beast mode. Super happy for him, I knew he could turn it on. He may really be on this team next year.

Holland and Blashill expected to return

Who's getting upset? That's not what Babcock is suggesting. He's suggesting the Leafs should grow the total number of staff larger than normal and swell their front office numbers. This is so when the exodus inevitably occurs there are lots guys who have learned from Hunter, Dubas, etc. that can step up.

    Signing Stamkos ≠ Retiring #13

Yeah it's pretty coincidental that our big slide began and all of the sudden family became such an immediate need that he needed to bail. Datsyuk absolutely deserves all the praise for all the great things he did, but he also should be held accountable for the negatives as well. The positives are not excuses.

Holland and Blashill expected to return

What a Red Wings front office expansion could look like and why it's necessary - The Athletic Basically Babcock watched the Red Wings get stripped of all their front office staff and scouts by other teams poaching talent from a successful organization, and he warned Lou to prepare for that kind of exodus if the leafs start winning. Pretty interesting stuff. This is probably one of the downfalls of the Wings. Not being prepared enough to combat the poaching and stealing of personnel off the ice.

Exactly, 4 veteran Dmen locked in, with 2 spots remaining for younger guys. Maybe 5 vets and 1 spot for a young guy if Green is signed. Both scenarios are fine with me. I'd like to see Hicketts make the team full-time and have Hronek as the call-up. Ouellet, Russo, Lashoff, and Jensen are all pretty trash and are not worth developing any farther, especially not at the NHL level. But if we don't sign Green, I'd pick Jensen to be the 6th Dman, as Hronek probably isn't ready for fulltime duties yet as he's not even received a single callup yet. So I don't see Daley as a bad fit at all. In fact he was a pretty good fit on our blue line all season and I was happy with the way we played our defensive prospects this year.

First bold: I'm not making an argument about his family in Russia or the amount of time he has contributed to the Red Wings organization. You are. I'm making an argument about his contract. You're essentially saying: If you don't believe the argument I'm putting forth, I believe that's weak reasoning. Well you can believe that all you want I guess, but it doesn't change my argument about his contract. But I will say I certainly appreciate those things about Datsyuk, his time with this team is one of the reasons were talking about this at all. I don't believe being Russian should get him any special treatment. Your home is faraway, so what, that's the way things are for most of the team. So you won't find me taking his nationality into consideration at all. In terms of time he spent with the team, I definitely think that should be considered. He played his entire NHL career with the Red Wings. That's a big plus. Basically I believe there's three basic criteria the Wings have for jersey retirement, that I've seen out of them so far: 1. On Ice Performance (Has to be a big impact player, most likely a HOFer) 2. Time with the team (Has to have spent the large majority of their career in Detroit, most likely all of it) 3. Character (Has be loyal to, and display a high level of conduct within the organization) I think Datsyuk hit 1 & 2 but came up just short on 3. I think Fedorov hit 1, but not 2 or 3. Chelios got 1 and 3, but not 2. And Osgood I think got 2 and 3, but is coming up just short, like Datsyuk in a way, on 1. I hope that clarifies my thinking. Second Bold: Technically you are correct. The CBA dictates that if a player is signed to a contract/extension after said player turns 35, the contract stands even if the player retires. That's why his contract did not terminate and why we had to trade it to Arizona. But in spirit he 100% broke off an agreement he had made with the team and 100% abandoned his contract. And even worse, because we couldn't just terminate the deal, as you suggest, we couldn't get that cap space back. That's the extra little sting to his retirement. It hurt the Wings on paper in a real way, enough that it forced us to make the Cholowski deal. I think if Datsyuk had played out that final year, his jersey would already be up, and I think Datsyuk knows that and probably doesn't care. He's always been incredibly humble, and probably just decided that family and playing for his Russian fans suddenly and simply meant more to him than having his name immortalized in the great lakes region of North America for all time. That's not the way I or the Wings would like to have it, but fair enough, to each their own.

Your arguing from emotion. I love Pav too. I appreciate everything he did for us and I'm thankful for the cups he brought us. But not every player I have fond memories of gets to go up. The vast majority don't. The facts are he severed ties with the team while still under obligation to play. That's not an ok thing to do. Contracts are a two-way street and he knowingly agreed to the terms. Datsyuk made a lot of money playing for this team for 15 years and, despite having just one year left to go, he felt it more prudent to abandon his contract and his team. He alluded to wanting to return home to Russia for a long time, and that's fine. But he should have done the respectable thing and negotiated for lesser term, or played out his final year. You don't get away with breach of contract just because you have dank dangles and a few cups.

Thanks for clarifying. Vegas capped at 24.

    Our draft position

First bold: 3 years is a long-term contract? Daley will be 36 when the contract ends, that's pretty much exactly the age we should be cutting off players like him at. Second bold: You stated the emphasis should be on developing younger players. That begs the question, who do you want to develop? Ouellet? Hicketts? Hronek? I think two of those guys could very well have their confidence ruined, especially when removing a minute eater like Daley and everyone shifting up. The other I don't think is worth developing. All in all I think it's a bit dramatic to stop posting over. Holland's done wayyyyyy worse things than signing Trevor Daley.

Well he should come back now that Putin is in the white house. I don't care where he went, breaking a contract is breaking a contract. It's impossible to abandon a contract for another NHL team anyhow.

Vegas won their division. Doesn't that mean the pick is pretty much locked in?

And that caused you to stop posting entirely...? I get where your logic is coming from, but Daley was just a depth signing for the blue-line. He's on probably the best veteran contract this team has as well.

    Should any of #91, #13, #40, #30 be retired? Poll/Discussion

It was not. He abandoned his contact. As Keith Gave pointed out, the organization was not happy with this. It's one thing to leave once the contract is over, but he broke the terms in the middle of it. And that is Datsyuk and Milstein's fault for agreeing to terms Datsyuk did not plan to fulfill, or later decided not to fulfill. Either way, that's the exact opposite of being on the up-and-up.

This is what separates Lidstrom and Zetterberg from Fedorov and Datsyuk. Commitment to being a Red Wing, for better or worse, for life. If Fedorov/Datsyuk wanted or expected to have their numbers retired, they would not have left the team on negative terms.

Again, you lack reading skills. I didn't call you a bigot, I said "your hate-fullness towards them is bigoted". If you understood the meaning of the word and how I used it, you'd know I didn't call you a thing. Always playing victim... So they suck. Ok, did/do they suck more or less than Cory Emmerton, Joakim Andersson, Jan Mursak, or Dan Cleary? And water isn't wet

.......... You don't dislike Franzen and Nyquist because they suck. They were/are each better than the majority of the other forwards on any of their respective rosters, yet you don't rail against those other players. Your hate-fullness towards them is bigoted, whether that's due to nationality or not. Which is why your rationality on the this board constantly comes into question.
