...so why did you make the contention that Larkin isn't who you WANT to be captain lol? You do want him to be captain, so just own that and quit beating around the bush. Yes Larkin has been talked about as the heir apparent, but that was before Seider entered the fold. Larkin being an average NHLer and therefore a good candidate for C is a fair take, if you want an average run of the mill captain. I think Seider has the chops to be tier 1 captain, and I'd hate to create the internal debacle where Larkin has the C, yet the true leader in the lockeroom is someone else. This team is 5 years, maybe more, from playoff contention. Glendening is a perfect stop gap captain and role model, and his remaining career looks to fit in perfectly with that time frame. Larkin or Seider can then take the mantle cleanly in a few years when they are more matured and established. If Larkin was the second coming of Yzerman I'd be all for hoisting the burden on to him already, but he's nowhere near Yzerman level.

Because it's a 1st and not a 6th? That's pretty short-sighted if you ask me. 1st overall rankings are often incorrect. Media rankings are far from the dogma they and fans would have one believe. Seider was ranked what? 20-25 most of the season? And ended up rising to 6th. Now he looks like he should have gone #1. You're just calling the notion dumb with no educated retort. Sorry that your sacred rankings are being tested. It doesn't hold (significant) value. Who's he talking to? 100 Hakan Andersson's? or 5 Jeff Findlay's - the guy who drafts based on size first? Furthermore, you better bet that scouts and agents feed the media misinformation non-stop. That's part of the game. I put myself in a scouts shoes and I would NEVER reveal that I'm super high on Moritz Seider. In fact I would feed McKenzie BS I don't believe like that Zadina is the best player in the draft. If they were such gifted talent assessors teams would be clamoring to hire them. They're not. Because they're amateur journalists pretending to be scouts. Nothing more. Here's where you've misinterpreted my entire stance. I'm not claiming to know more than Mckenzie or you or Kip or Pronman. I'm claiming none of the mentioned or I really know s***. So to treat Pronman or McKenzie as gospel is foolish. I'm much more amicable to any one on this board who watches a prospect and can post a long, detailed, and insightful post about said player either for or against.

K who do you WANT to be captain? I respectfully disagree. Larkin is a fine young man, but he seems to have the same cookie cutter personality that most pro NHLers have. Nothing really jumps off the page about him. Seider on the other hand is charismatic and extremely vocal with his teammates on the ice in all situations. Larkin can be vocal too, but it's mostly when he's mad at a ref or slamming his stick. Seider has personality and leadership written all over him. If some guys can be "lockerroom cancer" Seider is "lockerroom chemo" for lack of a better phrase. I would sincerely be okay with Glendening being named captain next season. He's older, extremely respected by the organization (seemingly by both Holland and Yzerman's organizations), plays the game "the right way", and seems to have a between the lines off ice life. 5 years of a rebuild with Glendening as C, then moving to a younger (but now matured and established) player like Seider would make a lot of sense in my mind.

Exactly why I don't follow draft prospects and find the en-devour completely futile. Unless you watch the prospects and come up with your own original opinions, you're just parroting the rigid narrative of journalists who are no more of scouts than any of us are. Maybe it's an educated guess, but it's a guess nonetheless. The only rankings I actually care about are Yzerman's, Verbeek's, Draper's, and Andersson's. Sadly those are kept away from the public. I became infatuated with Seider going into the draft last year, because I actually watched him and liked what I saw, which is rare for me with a draft prospect. I certainly put no bearing on his draft ranking determined by the media. I thought he was the best Dman in the draft regardless of what those amateurs suggested. I was lucky to be (hopefully) right about that so far. I should probably take the time to actually watch Rossi and Stutzle. I haven't at all so far besides maybe a few short clips of Stutzle. Not promising I will get the same level of hype from them that I got from Seider though.

    Goal GOAT Poll

I'm prone to saying the league was changing in the late 80s, leading into the dead-puck era of the 90s (and it was), and that that's a viable excuse for Gretky's decreased goal scoring. But then Lemieux begins his tear in 1986 and completely blows that out of the water. If Gretsky was the sniper folks purport him to be his numbers would have stayed up, but they didn't.

Every single person in the hockey world gasped when Yzerman drafted Seider 6th overall Those gasps widened their mouth holes just large enough for Yzerman to slide his massive dong into them.

    Goal GOAT Poll

I'm sorry you're correct, he led 5 seasons, not 4. Absolutely agree with you though. Comparing Gretsky to Ovechkin is like comparing Yzerman to Hull. For the former it was about playing a complete playmaking game where goals naturally just came, and for the later it was about a hyper-focus on goal scoring. That stylistic difference alone leads me to somewhat of a bias towards Ovi, Bossy, Hull types. If you look at the graphs I posted, Gretsky was on a pretty steady downward trend in goal scoring adjusted per game after the early 80s. His career looks like it has 3 stages: Early 20s beyond human. Late 20s human, but still the GOAT. 30s dead puck era and post Suter, great player but nowhere near his former self. Ovechkin on the other hand is seemingly immune to age and wear and tear like Howe was. His consistency in goal scoring is flat out remarkable.

The only reason you want Larkin to be captain is because he's the best young player on the team. That's a simp approach to leadership. Besides scoring a moderate amount of points he's displayed no real leadership qualities that make me think he's deserving of the honor. This was his season to grab the bull by the horns and instead he was just another passenger in the lineup. Seider is an 18 year old AHL defensive phenom bursting at the gills with personality and leadership. Naming Larkin captain before Seider joins the roster and claims the title as leader would be the most short-sighted mistake Yzerman could possibly commit. Frankly I don't think any Wings player deserves to be awarded with such a title after this wretched season anyway.

You're talking to the only guy on here who doesn't follow draft rankings at all. Seriously. I don't see them unless you guys post em. I'm confident Yzerman will make the right decision. He has my faith after Seider.

The amount of clout Corey Pronman receives for absolutely no reason is incredible.

    Goal GOAT Poll

I imagine if Ovechkin ever found a wood stick he would be utterly baffled by it. Like a Chimpanzee seeing fire for the first time. Gretsky would be potting his 92nd goal while Ovie confusingly screeches at the piece of strange wood.

What's the problem with it? In terms of goal scoring titles thou Ovie has the most, and may even add to it yet.

Blash played him at C last year. It's not AA's fault Blash has cobwebs for brains and gave up on that in favor of a washed up Filppula so quickly. He coulda been developed as a center with an actually decent coach I suspect. Seider is captain.
