Crosby signed his contract in the summer prior to the 2007-08 season. The cap ceiling during the 2007-08 was 50.3 million, Making Crosby's cap hit 17% of the cap. If McDavid signed the 13.25 contract today it would also be 17% of the cap hit. I'm getting my information from doing pretty simple math. Again, this salary is almost exactly comparable to Crosby's percentage of cap-wise. Do you think Crosby signed a non-team friendly contract in 07?

I mean he had 8 pts in 30 games for the Rangers. Over a full season that's 21 points (wooohooo a career high for Smitty) so not super likely.

Great comparison. Don't need Mraz and his bulls*** here.

BITE BITE, SIP SIP We lost Smith, need another capable D-man when injuries roll in. I think we all agree Daley won't win us the cup, he'd be a place-holder.

13.25 (the rumored amount) would be the same percentage of the cap that Crosby's 8.7 was when he signed his deal.

This isn't the commodities market, if the sport grows salaries grow. There can be setbacks of course, but even the lockouts aren't indicative of that. Salaries have continued to steadily go up despite these disputes, and will more than likely continue to do so for a long time like the other major sports. I mean, i dont wanna sound insensitive, but goddamn, we havent played in it yet and the place is already haunted by s***. -
And were coming full circle on Mrazek. I love the fresh air.

Dont take this away from them. They needed Babcock gone, and now they must reap what they sow. They'll s*** on Holland for the next few seasons too, then after hes fired/retired theyll freak out even more that the new guy is even worse lol. Thus is the life of a nonplayoff franchise.

Im kinda ok with the McD payday. Crosbys pad day was big at the time too. Matthews and other young studs will get (not the same) but comparable contracts. Pay is increasing. I hate to paint this as lucky, but Larkin Mrazek (if both bounce back) wont be able to get nearly as much as this. The down year will keep them low. Kind of a silver lining if they do get better.

You have to have one first

Hell yea!

If the Oilers sign him for that much they likely won't be able to protect Draisaitl from a predatory offer sheet down the line unless they unload some bigger contracts

That's a D-man with a big stick

Khan reporting that Wings were willing to offer 3.5 if he hit the market. Not sure he would have actually got much more than what NYR forked over.

I'm with you, I don't really get the whole dumb dumb Holland how dare you sign a vet narrative going on. These are most likely going to be inexpensive vets on short contracts to fill holes and possibly even be traded at the deadline. With Kronwalls health and play declining, and Ericssons overall play declining, we may end up looking at a D roster closer to this: Daley - Green DK - Jensen XO - Girardi Sproul And I really only think we will sign one verteran D-man. When injuries ravage our D line again we will need some warm bodies. I'm not very comfortable throwing Hicketts or Saarijarvi yet. Maybe Russo...

Pass. They said the same thing in Buffalo and was a huge disappointment. Guy has never been able to put up numbers in the NHL.

Congratulations. Youre a racist.
