Signed Frans Nielson signs 6 year $5.25m AAV contract with Detroit
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to Jedi's topic in General
Not me saying it. Frans Nielsen is. It was his comment that the team didn't grind hard enough this season and was too easy to play against. He goes on to say tough players like Steve Ott open up space for skilled guys like himself, and that he likes having "tough to play against" players like Ott around. I think Otter provides "that" at a pretty cheap price, so I wouldn't mind him coming back. If we gain a player that can do that better at a higher price, cool. I just think Otter is cheap and low risk so I prefer that. I don't want a Matt Martin at 2.5 mil running around. -

Are you suggesting we had a bad season because Steve Ott was on the roster for part of it? -

You're concerned Ott is taking some kids roster spot. This doesn't concern me. With Ott you get a lot of bang for your buck. And as a skilled player like Nielsen explains, he's tough to play against and the Wings need more of that not less. -

I think Ott brings more to the table than Bertuzzi does, currently. Bringing in Ott is/was basically a no risk move. He's that cheap cheap, and players seem to like having him around. I don't see what the big deal is. -

Ott at $800,000 is a bargain. Glendening, Helm, and Abby are overpaid and should be shed -
He put Marcus Foligno on jackies line for a lot of the season. Which would be like if Blashill put Sheahan on Larkins line for a lot of the season.... wait

Since we are drafting Timothy Liljegren in the 1st round (and yall know it) here's his highlights

"Every time we'd get the puck down in their end, he'd finish checks on their D," Nielsen said. "At some point, they're going to be tired of that and they're going to back off and that's going to give our skill guys a little more room. They're going to give up that four or five feet at the blue line and you can come in and hit guys coming in late." I agree with him. Team doesn't grind hard enough. -
I suspect Disco Dan is done in the NHL at this point

I like Tim Murray, but he didn't sell at the deadline which was weird. No more peepee slaps for jack attack

Nielsen's Thoughts On How To Fix The Red Wings "It's been disappointing absolutely, but I think there are some really good pieces in here, so I think it's not like I feel like I'm going to come back after the summer and we're going to go through this again," Nielsen said. "I really believe this group can do something. We've just got to learn from this and figure it out. I think for the most part, some nights we basically got outworked, and that just can't happen in this league." The prevailing sentiment from one of the team's veterans: They need more grit. "We just got to bring a little more mean attitude and play harder and do it a little more simple sometimes," Nielsen said. "I know they always had a tradition of playing a lot of nice hockey here with skill guys, but I think we got to learn how to play the other side of it, too. ... It's a tough league and you have to pay the price every night. ... You can't skill your way through this league today. It's too hard." Nielsen said the team needs a player like Steve Ott. The Red Wings signed him to a one-year, $800,000 contract last summer and traded him to the Montreal Canadiens for a sixth-round pick at the deadline, when they determined they were out of the playoff chase. "Every time we'd get the puck down in their end, he'd finish checks on their D," Nielsen said. "At some point, they're going to be tired of that and they're going to back off and that's going to give our skill guys a little more room. They're going to give up that four or five feet at the blue line and you can come in and hit guys coming in late. Nielsen said coach Jeff Blashill's system is not the issue. "Sometimes it just comes down to us in here," Nielsen said. "You've just got to bring it every night. It's not going to be pretty sometimes; you have to grind it out and find other ways to win." It's also the coaching staff's responsibility to put players in the best position to maximize their abilities. Too many players took a step back this season. "I think (Blashill) is a really good coach and every time he comes and speaks, when he walks out you're like, 'He's saying the right things,' " Nielsen said. "It really doesn't come down to (coaching) right now. I think it's in the room, us players. We got outworked in a bunch of games. Stuff like that, it's not X's and O's. It's us in here that have to step it up and do a better job." -

Yeah WiiM totally sucks That being said Dr. Dangles seems like he knows what he's talking about, and he makes drafting Rasmussen in the first round sound like the equivalent of drafting Brian Boyle in the first round. Pass.

So Rasmussen is out

I usually just call them by their traditional Latin name: Thic boys To stay on topic, Eichel skates weird and I don't like that, and therefore I don't like him. And that's all I have to say about that.
