They want a good ol Michigan boy... they got more heart/will to win

Trouba produced similar numbers to Hamilton this season playing less on the PP and playing WAY more short-handed. And yet he was only on pace for 5 less points than Hamilton. I fail to see how you think this kid offensively inept. Despite being deployed defensively he's still producing well above average point numbers for a D-man. Wouldn't Hamilton also produce WORSE numbers here in Detroit? I fail to see how that furthers your point.
-
Not true. Myers and and Trouba played nearly identical minutes throughout Myers first 2 seasons with Winnipeg. Trouba's minutes did not take a hit at all when Myers joined the team. Now Trouba is playing nearly 3 more minutes a night than Myers.

Hamilton 20: Pace 31 pts 21: Pace 32 pts 22: Pace 47 pts 23: Pace 43 pts 24: Pace 50 pts Trouba 20: Pace 36 pts 21: Pace 28 pts 22: Pace 21 pts 23: Pace 45 pts Hamilton broke out at 22, Trouba is breaking out at 23. Hamilton has a more consistent track record so far, but that's about his only advantage besides slightly more points this season. Hamilton has averages 2+ minutes of powerplay time a game since he entered the league. Trouba averages about 1 minute 30 over his career. Trouba is also relied upon heavily for penalty killing, whereas Hamilton is hardly used at all on the PK. Trouba's also logging way more 5 on 5 time.

He was on pace for 45 pts and plays 25 minutes a night consistently. What more does he need to do to prove himself in your eyes? That's pretty impressive for a 28 year old, let alone a 23 year old, in my book.
-
What's unimpressive about his scoring? He was on pace for 45 pts this season. More than Doughty, Weber, McDonagh, Subban, Suter, Giordano, OEL. And he's younger than all those guys and logging bigger minutes per game than the majority of them.
-
Meh they always suggest we are taking the Swede or random European. It was Eriksson-EK a few years ago, Rubstov I think last year, ect ect. I wouldn't put much stock in it. We normally draft our rando-swedes in later rounds.
-
Subban and Josi didn't break out offensively until they were each 24. Trouba is 23. He's been on pace for around 40 pts for all but his one down year, last year. And he's currently logging bigger minutes than almost everyone you listed, and at a very young age. I'm not in love with Trouba by any means, and I don't advocate trading him for him, but you seem very certain there's no room to grow with this kid, which I think is far from certain.

Per Dreger Dallas moving quickly. Gallant, Dejardins, and Hitchcock are there top 3 choices. Dreger also says he believes Gallant will end up in Dallas or Vegas within the next weeks or so.
-
Kronwall first hit Trouba's offensive numbers during the 08 championship season. He was was 27 and logging 4 less minutes a game than Trouba is now. Trouba is lightyears ahead of where Kronwall was at 23. Kronwall was still a Griffin at 23.
-
You're correct, Trouba isn't a #1 defenseman. He's #2 on his team behind Byflugien. And as a #2 he logs some of the heaviest minutes in the league. Only 10 D-men in the league log more minutes per game than him (Byflugien among them). He plays more minutes per game than OEL, Burns, Hedman, Subban, McDonagh, Giordano..... He's doing this, and putting up 33 pts per game in 60 games played, at the age of 23. The only other young Dman doing this right now is Rasmus Ristolainen. I don't know a lot about Trouba, or watch him very much at all, but it sure seems like you are writing him off. There is lots of room for him to grow yet, and he's already doing a lot.

The era of the golden knight is upon us Rob Blake promoted to GM

It's something one of their scouts threw out there, but I doubt it's actually true. They will definitely have 2 or 3 very good goalies though.

I agree with that. Which is why I thought donations to cephalopod research, and or preservation, on big games nights would be a nice gesture for the Wings to do. Give the tradionalists their fun, but then also plug that charity/foundation. Kinda saying, hey thats a cool unique tradition you got there, but on the reals lets try to be good to and protect these creatures ya? -
But that's my whole point. We're better with Babs. It's hard not to be, he's a top 5 coach and we lost him. Hindsight is 20/20 but I've on on been on this warpath since before Babs was gone, which is why I have that crappy told ya so attitude about it. What irks is me is the whole "meh we needed to change coaches anyway" attitude, as if he suddenly "went stale" and we needed to ditch him regardless. We did not fire him. He went to the market and chose a new team. A now better team with a brighter future. Babcock did not go stale. The Red Wings went stale.

I agree with you. But I'd hardly say there's a market for Octopus related to the Red Wings. How many go on to the ice a year? A few? 10? More if we make the playoffs? Nobody out there has a business built around selling octopus to Wings fans. We're hardly a blip. The point I'm trying to make is this is not about animal cruelty. Animals are not being harmed. Its about waste. Improper use of something that could otherwise be food. Which is why I think this argument is more suited for my mother than it is for PETA. And I think if you wanna combat wasting food, going after fat drunk guys from down river detroit, who throw octopi at ice managers, is the wrong place to start Of course PETA will tell you that throwing the corpses of their octocomrades is literally murder in and of itself -

Theyre not very intelligent or emotionally complex when they're dead. Would you be opposed to throwing pepperoins at the ice in the new arena? -

They believe shearing sheep should be outlawed, even though shearing is vital to a sheeps health and wellbeing. Plus i think they kill a ton of animals in their shelters or something. Regardless, it's the argument here that's dumb. The octopi are already dead. Sure it's wasteful to throw food, but it's not cruel to animals. -
Do you think the last 2 seasons would have gone better or worse with Babs behind the bench? I dont buy into the stale theory at all, and I would argue that it is not common 'knowledge'. It's more akin to a myth passed around by fans. You are constantly adding new players and personalties to lockerrooms every season, and subtracting others. This league has a good amount of turnover. Most coaches are fired because of losing seasons, which is only partially in a coaches hands. They can only play the hand theyre given. And most coaches never only coach one team because its almost impossible to maintain a winning record over a long period time, despite coaching prowess. The fact of the matter is Babcock moved on from us, not us from him. Much like Bowman in his career. We merely opted for plan B. The stale voice excuses is just that, an excuse for losing hockeys best coach.

I think it would be a nice gesture by the Red Wings to donate a portion of funds to cephalopod research/preservation or something like that. Its a good way of showing you care, without having to break with tradition. Just a thought. -

Well it is a new era starting soon. Perhaps we need a new tradition? Maybe we can throw diapers on the ice in honor of all the whiny PETA babies? -

Those PETA kids have just never felt the raw pleasure of stuffing sea-life down their pants in order to later throw at their favorite ice-maker-car driver guy
