Wings trade with Coyotes for G Eric Comrie, trade D Vili Saarijarvi
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Loads of young players have been on waivers this year. I don't see you clamoring to claim any of them besides Comrie. How come? -
You guys: "It's not Blashill''s fault" Also you guys: "Replace Blash with Laviolette or Gallant" funny

and when the 24 Comrie ends up no better than the 29 Poulin all your squabbling to add him to the roster will seem completely foolish Why do I keep bringing it up you mean? Because for some reason I can't explain you will completely lay down for this player. He's such a mediocre, no future player, that it's an incredibly easy argument for me to win. Gotta take the easy buckets. -
I, and a few others, got fought tooth and nail for calling AA a one-trick pony with no defense in 2017-18. You were probably one of the folks with me. I was glad to be wrong last year, now I can't believe I doubted myself.

*sigh* I'm still not saying PP gets thrown out the window completely. It's just only 10-20% of the game. So I definitely look at a players 5v5 production ahead of their PP production. Which is why signing a big PP specialist like Torey Krug this summer might be a HUGE mistake for us. McDavid still top 6 in the league in 5v5 points. -

The ironic part is I just listed all kinds of PP stats and praised Zadina for his work there Lol you're listening way too much to the talking heads. "SPECIAL TEAMS win hockey games" is a trope. A meme. Good teams win hockey games and 5v5 play wins hockey games, because that's where 90% of a hockey game occurs, and 80% of goals are scored. Bad teams don't make the playoffs cause their PP was good. Bad teams almost always have bad PP's. Look around the league. The only time you should be concerned about a bad PP is when ur team is good otherwise. I don't have a crystal ball, I have the reality in front of us. And right now that paints the picture of a PP specialist. -
It's all rather simple, you see. Jeff's pathology stems from his early career with the Griffins where the seeds were first planted. With the nurturing of his overbearing GM, and emotionally distant NHL HC, he soon flowered into full-blown psychosis. Jeff's GM was a narcissist who neglected his roster in favor of his head coach, Mike Babcock, whom he viewed as a reflection of himself. Young Jeff, sensing this familial dynamic, began play-acting as Babcock, the coach whom his GM lavished with the most attention and affection. As his GM encouraged this behavior, Jeff soon came to realize that through embracing this fantasy he could shift his GM's attention to himself. In this manner, his pathology deepened and broadened, encompassing a veritable stew of neuroses, prominent among them disorders of the histrionic and borderline personality variety, which, combined with the dissociation of his vivid, Holland-reinforced fantasy, blossomed into acute Autobabcockphilia, wherein merely imagining himself as Mike Babcock was insufficient to sustain the delusion. His GM's own narcissism interacted with Jeff's burgeoning psychosis and the interpersonal dynamic gave rise to Folie a Deux, wherein the shared delusion brought to the forefront Holland's own lack of ability to build out a roster, manifesting in a case of Munchhausen by proxy in which Jeff himself is unconsciously complicit. So as you can see, this all started with young Jeff's desire to live within Mike Babcock's... skin.

Mantha might be done for the year - what now
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Everything you don't understand seems to be "dumb" all the time. The Red Wings have spent roughly 9% of the season on the PP. And roughly 22% of our goals have come on the PP. That means 91% of the game is NOT being played on the PP, and 78% of our goals are NOT coming on the PP. I prefer players who can get it done in this much bigger chunk of the game where it's even harder to play because the opponent has another man on the ice. It's not dumb, it's rather simple. This does not mean I don't want players who excel at the PP. We needed help there, and Zadina's help is welcome. But if you offer me the choice between someone who doesn't need the PP to score a lot and a guy who does need the PP to score a lot. I take the later over the former every-time and twice on Sunday. The PP is only a small fraction of the game as a whole. -

Let's add some more stats: In terms of the PP, the best point producers on the team adjusted for 60 are: 1. Zadina 2. Fabbri 3. Mantha 4. Athanasiou 5. Bertuzzi 6. Larkin In terms of 5v5, the best point producers on the team adjusted for 60 are: 1. Mantha 2. Bertuzzi 3. Fabbri 4. Larkin 5. Zadina 6. Smith In terms of PP, the best goal scorers on the team adjusted for 60 are: 1. Zadina 2. Fabbri 3. Mantha 4. Larkin 5. Athanasiou 6. Bertuzzi In terms of 5v5, the best goal scorers on the team adjusted for 60 are: 1. Bertuzzi 2. Smith 3. Mantha 4. Zadina 5. Fabbri 6. Helm In terms of PP, the best primary assists on the team adjusted for 60 are: 1. Athansiou 2. Bertuzzi 3. Nielsen 4. Larkin 5. Zadina 6. Fabbri In terms of 5v5, the best primary assists on the team adjusted for 60 are: 1. Fabbri 2. Mantha 3. Larkin 4. Zadina 5. Filppula 6. Bertuzzi Conclusions: Zadina is far n away the best PP man on the team, but that production takes a dip compared to his peers during 5v5 play. He's also primarily a goal-scorer. Mantha is the best offensive player on the team and is top 3 in nearly every situational stat. Fabbri is one of the the best 5v5 players on the team, and is also very good on the PP, he's primarily a setup man. Bertuzzi is one of the best 5v5 players on the team, and while more of a goal scorer during 5v5, he's become very good as a setup man on the PP. Larkin doesn't seem to be particularly good at anything this year compared to his peers, and actually falls off the chart behind Darren Helm in 5v5 goals per 60. Yikes. Athanasiou is like Larkin but even worse. Givani Smith is sneaking his way up some of these stat rankings already His offensive stats are massively inflated by the PP. He's leaps and bounds ahead of everyone on the PP. Take that away and Givani Smith is creeping up the board to catch him. Just run some numbers dude it's not hard. -

Spongebob is one of the rare kids shows I can watch as an adult (not that I do) Imagine looking deeper into offensive production and who produces where and in what situations to gain a deeper understanding of how these players play and what their attributes and abilities are. You should try it. If you prefer PP specialists to 5v5 producers just come out and say it. No one besides me is gonna shame you. -

Comrie's arguably been worse, unless you honestly care about 0.01 - 0.02 sv% I'd rather have Tangradi -
If he makes 5 trades at the TDL I will give him a pass for Jan and the rest of the season. Come October though I demand my trades

You're beating a dead horse. I've acknowledged Zadina is the better PP man countless times in this thread. I'll repeat myself for the 500th time, IMO a player who scores at even strength is a more valuable player than a PP specialist. Fabbri is the later and Zadina is the former. Therefore Fabbri > Zadina. -

You put the words in my mouth. That's a strawman. Again. It's a bad premise. And I reject it for reasons stated. Again putting words in my mouth. Another strawman. Fact of the matter is Fabbri scores more at even strength. Speculate to the future all you like. But that's reality at the moment. -

Comrie right now: 2.71 GAA with 0.917% Nagle: 2.23 GAA with 0.916% Poulin: 2.22 GAA with 0.915% Sure seems like we never needed this guy in the AHL
