Bruh look at Pettersson. Stars make it early these days. This isn't the Zberg and Dats days anymore. Zadina is not star quality. Keep telling urselves he is. I can breakdown his game for days about why he's not. I do it and no one ever refutes it. Errybody just keeps sippin

U: "So much wrong with this post" Also u: "I'm hedging my bets on the guy with a 5-10% chance" K Your asking to forsake Howard/Mrazek/RandomOtherStarter for McCollum. Sorry if I don't buy that bologna Comrie was gone faster than Howard or Bernier lol. Do you honestly think Yzerman is an idiot? Please, I implore you, make that case. More autistic paper reading. Real life doesn't work this way partner. "Some of us disagree with you? Why are you calling us out on our s***?" Cope harder Yzerman literally already waived Ericsson. Bad players get waived. Useful players stay. Comrie is not useful. Howard and Bernier are. Seeth harder u autismo. -
U take Lafren Zadina will also get us a good return in a few years
-
I absolutely hope he will be a Dats or a Zberg I just highly doubt he will be based on what I've seen. On any other team this kid would already be a superstar. On this team he's not. That's the definition of the type of player we don't need. The type of player who's going to prolong the dead wings for 5-10-40 years. We need Seiders and Yzermans, not Hollands and Zadinas/Tatars/Filppulas Kids gonna be pretty good trade bait in a few years. This is not a lifelong red wing.

No one's winning anything with a 25-30 year old Comrie, and if they do it's incidental with him on the bench. I totally 100% disagree with this notion. Rebuilding does not equal ignoring the present team. That's a nerdy, on paper only, autistic, view from an ivory tower, take on the team that I will never get behind. The current team absolutely matters. It matters to Bertuzzi, Larkin, Mantha, Hronek, and everyone else you care about. I remember your aversion to Nemeth and Filppula as well. Both were absolutely necessary additions, despite your constant cooing that it would harm the kids. This team is a joke with these players, and it's a total farce without them. I want to highlight here and now the backlash I take for not giving a s*** about an D rate goalie like Comrie, remember the name when I mock you for liking him in a few years. This is precisely in my mind what is wrong with fandom. A player, while average, gets absolutely no support from his fanbase after a rough stretch.. I'm thinking of Howard now. 10+ years he's given to the Red Wings and you can't wait to get rid of him. Sad. Just sad. A poor ten game stretch and he might as well eat s*** and die. You people are not the Wings fans I fell in love with. -
I expect to get an elite player in the top6. Especially with one who WAS ranked top 3. I am still not dissuaded away from that being a reasonable expectation. Zads is small, not fast, not strong. Hes a cerebral player, and if hes gonna be a great player it will be with his brain. Otherise hes just a pretty snap shot

I cant wait for Yzerman to sell Zadina. I foresee him doing a Drouin/Sergachev style trade. A piece with value for a piece with value he likes. Maybe not this year, but soon. Zadina plays like the complete oppsite of how Seider plays

Bernier isnt anything to write home about, but hes better than Comrie and probably will be for a few more seasons at the very least. Howard was absolutely normal Howard up until nov. Typical howard bashing. Everyone so eager to move on after one bad stretch. -

Getting a bit tired of manthas injuries...

I wont speak for mackel, but the issue for me is not that Zadina is useless. Its that we have a player whos expected to be a major piece, but i realistically view as another Tatar. I dont want to fall into the fil/huds nyq/tats trap a third time. It only prelongs this mess were in when we still have a mediocre zadina team 5 years from now.
-
I wont ever complain about a wing prospect doing well. But im tempering my expectations with him. As I should with Fabbri as well. Both may end up as 50 pt tatar/nyq wingers. We both agree Zadina HAS to be smart to be successful. I really dont see that galaxy brain yet. Not at all Zberg level anyway.

If this was "least amount of trades in 500 years" "Wait n see" "Closed system" Holland and the team was better I would be a lot more ticked by the uselessness of this trade. But it's wheel n deal Yzerman with a crap team. I applaud his willingness to try things and not sit on his hands.

Although there isn't an established agreed-upon definition of hockey IQ, I imagine I would define it as how quickly a player can process a situation they're in. This is highly related to anticipating plays, which allows players to keep up with, or get ahead of the play, and get themselves in a position to more effectively use their stick skills, shot, body, etc.. This is distinct from, but not unrelated to, decision making, which is what the player does once they process the situation. A player can have good decision-making ability but not good IQ and vice-versa. However I would posit that IQ is the crux of a good NHL hockey player: A player can be elite without an elite shot or strength or skating, but they can't be elite without elite IQ. Whenever I'm watching Zadina I find that in my mind I'm constantly rewarding him for not messing up, rather than for making good plays. So I tried applying the same standard to Ehn: Not only does Ehn not make many mistakes, he makes a lot of slick little low-key smart decisions that I would be thrilled to see Zadina making, and this is Christoffer freaking Ehn, the gold standard of average checking line fringe NHLer we're talking about. What I notice about Zadina is that when he doesn't have the puck, he's always chasing the play. At first glance it looks like he's not a good enough skater to make it to the play in time... but then you see him flying down the ice. He's not slow of foot. IMO what is going on there is he's not processing the situation fast enough to use his speed to consistently get involved in the play and get into open positions when his teammates have the puck. He doesn't look completely lost, he looks just slow soemtimes. Now, I think his decision-making has improved as he's calmed down trying to force plays and do everything himself, but he still seems just as peripheral in the unfolding play as before. When he does have the puck he can use his skills and decision-making to make decent plays sometimes, but he never generates plays, and I think a lot of that has to do with IQ. He loses the puck way too easily, and while that can be fixed, I still don't think his play away from the puck has proven improvable enough for him to be considered a future elite forward. This is in contrast to players like Bertuzzi, and even Mantha and Athanasiou. Athanasiou is a good example of a player that can process the play well but doesn't necessarily make great decisions, often forcing a play. Which I imagine is why he often sticks to his run and gun role. And he's actually smart to adapt his game that way. Mantha also seems to have the competency to be a dominant player but there are other mental blockages stopping him from playing at that level 100% of the time. I do think this year he's been much more consistently great though. But Bertuzzi is the main one I want to discuss because he's a prime example of a player that's average in his skating, shooting, and stick skills, but his IQ is so through the roof that he's consistently effective. He's by no means a great offensive talent, yet he still consistently generates offense just by getting to the right parts of the ice to make the play. To address a very common response to worry about our prospects, Zadina specifically, I wonder how improvable hockey IQ really is. I'm extremely suspicious about claims that such a complex and automatic judgment process can be systematically developed like decision-making or skating can. If it is the case that IQ mostly "is what it is" then the whole spiel about "he's only 20"/"give him time"/"be patient" doesn't apply because his IQ has already shown to be, in my opinion at least, inadequate. The overarching point, though, is that for the most part (I think) Zadina hasn't shown the IQ we should expect given the ceilings most of us have set for him at the draft. In regards to his defense I think we agree much more here. He's much more of a two-way presence than Hudler ever was. But again, I come back to IQ. Is he ever gonna have the IQ to process the game defensively like Z, Dats, Bertuzzi, Larkin do? Personally I don't see it. In regards to the Hudler comaprison more fully, they're both small, not particularly slow or fast, both have nice shots, and both need strong linemates to set them up. This doesn't make them useless players, you just have know how to use that type of player. They're never going to be Kane or Kucherov style wingers who can drive play, but they could be useful next to a Larkin or Gaudreau.

Adding to my post here where I listed Francouz Look at this: Avs are stuck with Grubauer for another year, so maybe they're content to trade or let Francouz go in UFA instead of re-signing him for a lot more money? Francouz is a 29 year old who the Avs pulled out of the KHL. Been playing very well. Maybe: Howard 50% salary retained + something for Francouz?
