Wings trade with Coyotes for G Eric Comrie, trade D Vili Saarijarvi
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
Well for a drunk guy this is a 10/10 quality post. All I'll say is average variance of shots on goal against between teams over a season is actually pretty small despite the team you ice. Last year the best shot suppression team was the Ducks at 27.7 allowed per game and the worst was the Canes at 34.4 allowed per game. A difference of only 6.7 per game from the high to the low end. The best sv% starting goalie last year was Bishop at 0.934 and the worst starter was Quick at 0.888. A difference of only 4.6%. However that 4.6% number matters a whole lot more when you consider the volume it represents. Quick on the Ducks last year would have allowed 254.4 goals against. Despite the heavy shot suppression D this puts them at #21 in goals against Quick on the Canes last year would have allowed 315.9 goals against. Making them the worst goals against team in the league. Bishop on the Ducks last year would have allowed 148.92 goals against. Making them by far the best team in the league in preventing goals. Bishop on the Canes last year would have allowed 186.2 goals against. Making them again the best team in the league in preventing goals. Confounding factor is back ups. It's too difficult to account for that variance from team to team and games played. My point is that, it doesn't really matter how good the ducks D was last year. A bad goalie will make you bad. Or at least drag you down to below average defensively. Bishop on the other hand could have instantly made either the Ducks or the Canes the best defensive team in the league, despite the wide variance in shot suppression. Your goalies are gonna face about 30 shots per night no matter what you do. Having a guy that blocks 0.930 of those over just say 0.900 is actually pretty huge. I'll go on to say this, the 3 elite players that seem to be on the board to me are Lafren, Byfield, and Askarov. Maybe Raymond is a Pettersson, or maybe he is a Zadina, idk. But if we end up with the 4th overall and Askarov is still there, I definitely consider adding him over somebody who may just end up an average top 6er. GOALIES LIVES MATTER -

Another tidbit: Ex mrs zaitsev was asking for 22.6 million over the next 5 years for child support and alimony. Dunno if she got it. -
Sorry to be lazy and not dig for the links, but there was a story last night that NJD wants to trade Hall for Byram straight up. Lebrun was confirming this morning that Colorado has been in talks to get Taylor Hall.

Story about ex wife (Russian) So seems more like the story is: Zaitsev's wife cheated on him Divorce She kept the kids to get alimony She's not taking proper care of the kids and using drugs in front of the kids Zaitsev removed his kids Whirlwind story this morning, and of course fans overeacted and dragged him thru the mud for the "attack" -

So um, Zaitsev is on film abducting his own children from his ex-wife in Russia? He had buddies with him who helped restrain her. Couple things on this: I see people online talking about domestic violence (probably cause of Voynov) but that doesn't look like the case to me. Looks like purely abduction. Folks are saying it's because he didn't want to pay her alimony anymore, but I don't buy this personally, abducting children does not cancel your alimony payments The Sens approved his leave of absence to miss games and return to Russia, so they probably know the back story of what is actually going on There is an unconfirmed rumor out there that the ex-wifes father was up to his ears in debt to a Russian "business man" and because of this took his own life recently. That "business man" may now be after Zaitsev's ex-wife for the debt owed. So this may all just be Zaitsev going to Russia to remove his kids from a potentially dangerous situation. Again, this is all unconfirmed thou. Zaitsev was not arrested by Russian police for the "abduction" and was allowed to leave the country and return to Canada where he is now No one knows where the kdis are now (besides Zaitsev obviously) Oi I got ahead of myself, Milstein just tweeted this: -

Wings trade with Coyotes for G Eric Comrie, trade D Vili Saarijarvi
ChristopherReevesLegs replied to Jersey Wing's topic in General
He was closer to elite when the Caps won it all, but I'm fine calling him above average either way And goalies are essentially your only Dman that plays every single shift. From an economic/efficiency lens it makes good sense to invest in that position and build from the net out. Acquiring an Andersen or Jones via trade is essentially gonna cost us 1st rounder and more anyway. If you're possibly getting a generational goalie talent I'm absolutely fine spending one pick on that, even if it's a high first. The alternative being getting an average or above average goalie via trade for a late first and possibly more... Most of my draft prospects views boil down to this. If Yzerman is cool with it, so am I. If Askarov is BPA, like Seider was, then f*** the conventional wisdom and take the darn kid.. -

I believe in right and wrong, and no in-between. Larsson is right and Petruzzelli is wrong. Howard is good and Mrazek is evil. Plus divisive goalie flame wars are fun too... But no I haven't given up on him, or Petruzzelli, and throw in Brattstrom as welll. I'm just not convinced any will ever be AMAZE BALLS. Whereas this Askarov kid sure seems like he's gonna be AMAZE BALLS. Somebody's gotta take the kid high. Why not us! -

My guess is Pickard gets waived. He was never supposed to be with the big club anyway -
Update since: .966 - amazing .857 - awful .833 - awful .931 - good .871 - below average .938 - good .818 - awful .913 - good .880 - average .893 - average Up n down and all around. And he's losing his job to James Reimer currently. He's momentarily better than Howard, but we really did not miss the boat with this guy.

I've been saying for years now our tendy pool needs a serious injection of talent. After the Mrazek debacle we basically had nothing and a quickly aging Howard. Kip made the point last time I advocated for Askarov, that you can build a solid skating corps, then add an average goalie and win a cup. I've been thinking about that. Cup winning goalies the last 10 years: 2010: Niemi (Average) 2011: Thomas (Elite) 2012: Quick (Elite) 2013: Crawford (Above average) 2014: Quick (Elite) 2015: Crawford (Above average) 2016: Murray (Above average) 2017: Fleury/Murray (Elite/Above average) 2018: Holtby (Ellite) 2019: Binnington (Looking like the real deal so far, lets say above average) The only LOL random goalie to earn a cup in there I see is Niemi. Also almost none of those goalies are random pickups. They're all homegrown developed talent, besides maybe Niemi, Thomas, and Binnington. I think it would also benefit this struggling group a lot to play in front of the next Tretiak/Hasek instead of randos like Comrie and Bernier for the next few years. Sign a Lehner/Markstrom and draft Askarov. Kid will look splendid in Soviet (Detroit) red: -

Didn't mean it as a jab at Makar, I just prefer Heiskanen and Seider types if I was building out a team. -
McIsaac - McIlrath is gonna be a sick pairing in the AHL

I think you missed this: I'm completely serious that Howard and Bernier are on the verge of losing their jobs. I'm a Howard slappy, but it looks like he's given up out there. That plus the weight gain is making me think his retirement is approaching early like Raffi. Bernier plain sucks. Yotes fans were thrilled with this trade because they were going to be forced to waive Comrie after his conditioning stint, and there was heavy suspicion Winnipeg was going to claim him right back if waived. So they essentially got something for a player they were gonna lose anyway. I don't believe Yzerman is an idiot or a sucker, so I'm inclined to believe he has no intention of waiving Comrie. -

I tend to lean towards Dmen who actually play D like Heiskanen But I remember watching the Avs playoffs last year when Makar joined the squad and I remember immediately thinking HOLY s*** THIS KID IS GOOD AF. He's one of those players that's compelling to watch even when he's doing simple things. Oozes talent. Girard is REALLY good too -

Right. I see a slightly greater chance that Comrie will make an impact as a 2/3 Goalie. I don't ever see Saarijarvi as being a top8 Dman. -

Was thinking about this the other day. How long does Stevie realistically hold on to Verbeek as his right hand man? Sure seems like Verbeek will be a GM somewhere else sooner than later with how his career has gone. Tom "Not a ***** like Abdellkader" Wilson -
