When I say top heavy I mean the forward group is their strength, and it's loaded with offensive guys. Completely agree their scoring depth is insanely strong. It just seems to be mostly skill guys in their forward group + their main Dmen are geared toward offense. Not saying this is a bad thing, but I can see them getting outworked and shutdown in a playoff series, and then having nothing else to offer. I thought Babs would be the ideal coach to turn their soft stars into powerhouse two-way players. Sorta like how Zberg and Dats became this way.

I will get s*** on for this, but I would absolutely take the goalie. Shore up that position for the next 15 to 20 years. The only real argument against this is YoUR'e nOt SuPpOSeD tO TAkE GoaLIeS iN ThE 1st And a pansy cause he's french, amirite?

I'm probably Babs biggest apologist, and I've acknowledged from the onset his "scheme" didn't fit the current makeup of the Leafs. I don't think their team doesn't play D, I just think they're top heavy and their star forwards play soft and like individuals.

Hudler He doesn't create offense. He's purely a finisher. Kinda the whole point to my OP was he doesn't do that

Ehn probably won't ever be an "elite" center, but he will definitely be a bottom six center at the NHL level. He's still very young (23). Take away that '106th overall' tag, and he's our undisputed top defensive forward prospect. He may never carry a line at the NHL level, which is fine. Very few bottom 6 centers do, but he will likely be a very good complement to high end grinding wingers. The way he makes very few mistakes is a positive in my opinion. He's doesn't make mistakes in every possible way. He doesn't take bad penalties, covers the high-slot, plays the system, back checks, etc. It's a good thing that he's not trying to be something he's not, ala Pulkkinen and Frk... I'm not going to say I see "elite" defense at this point, but it is high end. He hasn't dominated at the AHL, let alone the NHL *yet*, but he's been holding down his line for himself and his line mates. It's not like he's been sitting back, waiting for things to come to him. He's been going to get it. Ehn will be fine.

Fillup Zaginas... The good: As I've said from day one, his work ethic is superb and it's still there. As long as he keeps that up good things should come. The bad: I still do not see the elite offense I am expecting from him. His scoring has gone up in GR recently but it looks like mostly net-front jam goals and one-timers. The ugly: He was selected because of what he can do with the puck on stick. To date he still hasn't shown much in this regard. He's not creating plays for himself or finding space. Hopefully he can play with Bertuzzi and Larkin soon to build some confidence, I don't think Fil and Helm are gonna help him a ton in that department.

Still, that leaves about $1.75 each for 10 players. Let's say 5 of those players are league minimum Then suddenly you can pay the remaining 5 about $2.8 each Only gets better the more min contracts and ELCs they add

"I'm going to show you" kind of thing. Anger/hatred breeds an extreme level of intensity, and a lot of players rise to it. Leafs are a buncha whiny entitled little zoomers who couldn't handle the heat. And their careers and team will now suffer for it.

Unfortunately they prolly have the cap to get by it as long as they are getting Spezzas who will play for league min and rooks on league min contracts coming up
