So forwards aren't supposed to play any defense? How bad the D is has nothing to do with it. Even F on the teams with the best D corps still play a 2 way game. AA doesn't. The criticism is warranted. AA may be younger than Green, Daley, and DD, but that doesn't make his contribution more valuable, nor does it make him a better player than any of them. He has the ability to be "Helm with Hands". Among skaters? If we're going strictly going by productivity (not contracts). I would rank AA above Jensen, Hicketts, E, Kronwall, Glendening, Wit, Helm, Frk, and Svech.

I would prefer he play the full season with the Wings, but if they are going to send him down to GR with some stints in the NHL, I hope they keep it under 25 games so he can still be Calder eligible the next season.

He won"t win the Calder unless he plays a full season. Even then, they'll just rob him of it and give it to a future HOFer like Barrett Jackman or Tyler Myers.

And yet he still only scored 16 goals in 71 games played. I expect a lot more from a guy who is all offense. Imagine what his numbers would be if he actually played defense?

It could very well go to Sulak. At 24, he's pretty much at the end of being a "prospect". If you're going to throw someone out there, Sulak would be a better choice over Cholowski and Hronek. The kids are only 20 and you can afford to bring them along slowly. Plus they project to be better than Sulak, so if Sulak withers at the NHL level, it's no big deal.

I would take a healthy Franzen over a healthy AA 7 days a week and twice on Tuesday. AA stands for Apolo Anton (Ohno). Just because he's fast doesn't make him a good hockey player.

The "hate" for AA is that he is so far a one dimensional player and seems unwilling to round out his game. He's nowhere near as talented as Stevie Y was and yet he understood the concept of sacrificing one's own stats for the betterment of the team by playing a 2 way game. AA hasn't and/or won't learn this and he doesn't have enough offensive skill to get away with it. Plus he was just given a raise of more than double his previous salary. He hasn't done enough or proven enough to warrant that kind of salary hike. All just my opinion of course, and I can only speak for myself. 2 years is fine, but it should have been 2.5 AAV max.
