Would rather have Feds as Asst GM to start with. Don't know why Yzerman wouldn't want to come here. I think this would be a more coveted place to be a GM than TB being an original 6 team and a legit hockey market and all. I would think there would be several current GMs who would want to come here. Poile, Nill come to mind. I definitely think Stevie would want to come here and I think that may always have been the plan. But then again I thought Steve Alford was a shoe in for the IU Basketball head coaching job when Creen got let go, so what do I know.

Per Eklund: http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/Athanasiou-Situation-Could-Be-Resolved-SoonIslanders/1/88083 It really doesn't appear that Athanasiou will be signing with the Red Wings or in the KHL I am told...there is a possibility he could sign a short term deal in the Swiss league though...one that would let him out should his NHL situation become more clear...all of this is very fluid according to those familiar with the situation...Montreal is involved, but for now appears more interested in Duchene and seeing that one through...The Kings, Devils and Senators are all interested....but the real team to look out for here may be...The Islanders....Sources tell me Garth LOVES this kid and has called several times to keep up on his status. I know its Eklund, so.... http://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog/Eklund/Montreal-Stepping-Up-Search-for-Help-Who-are-they-talking-to/1/88122 Talking to sources this morning and the Habs have talked to four teams about getting help on the offensive end of things...Colorado, Las Vegas, Detroit and Tampa.....update this evening... -

Hopefully, that's what they are both wearing tonight, if you know what I mean. Wings fans? I say 10%. How many aren't Knights fans? 90%. Things you can't unsee. We have MiLF vs. MaF tonight. -

I see what you did there. For what its worth, Spector is reporting that the Habs are interested in AA. So Galchenyuk? I would link if I knew how. -

I don't think I have ever had a nightmare this disturbing. Creepy. Look how far away the picnickers are! LOL! The geese don't seem to mind tho. -
What exactly would any of the kids learn from McIlrath? Which team has the nicest press box? How comfortable are the seats on the team bus? Lashoff played the entire season for the Wings in 2013-14. He knows what its like to make a meaningful contribution to a team at the NHL level. McIlrath has barely had a cup of coffee in the NHL. Lashoff played in 5 playoff games. McIlrath has zero. Lashoff has been there, done that. He knows what its like to wear the Winged Wheel. McIlrath doesn't. Lashoff has played for Blashill, McIlrath hasn't. McIlrath's strengths are his size, strength, and physicality. Not one of the kids plays that way, nor should they. I wouldn't have McIlrath mentor Saarajarvi any more than I would have Witkowski mentor Svech. Lashoff relies more on positioning, fundamentals, the mentality of the position. That's what the kids should be learning. That's why I like him in GR, for now. That's what I base my comments on. Anyways, I feel like this has come to a stalemate. Totally fine with that. I am just a noob here so I don't want to come off as being disrespectful in any way. Some of you guys have been around for a while and know your stuff so I respect your opinions even if I don't agree with them and I hope my posts reflect that.

Sheahan makes just over 2. AA wants minimum 2.5. Even if Holland traded Sheahan, his cap hit still increased by at least 500K. Would not have been enough to sign Daley. Had he not signed Witkowski, then yes he probably could have, but he still has to have a roster minimum of 22 players. He still would have had to add another skater whether it be Thunderbeard, Bert, Sproul, whoever, and I don't think the cap space was there. Don't get me wrong, I would like the whole thing to be over too, but we need Daley a lot more than AA right now. Good debate sir.

Can you imagine what the front looks like? Half Winged wheel/half Moo-terus?

I always liked Teppo. Would loved to have seen him wear the Winged Wheel. -
So what happens if Green continues to play this well? Do the Wings A: trade him at the deadline and cut ties? B: trade him at the deadline and try to resign him when free agency starts and risk him signing somewhere else? or C:hold onto him and sign him to an extension? I like Green. This team lacks top 4 D, which I believe he is. I would like to have him back, especially if he continues to play well. It may be too early to decide at this point, we may have to start a whole new thread about this when the trade deadline nears.

Alex galchenyuk - should we make a move ?
Neomaxizoomdweebie replied to nyqvististhefuture's topic in General
Based on the way you worded it, I would say no - cuz I don't swing that way. But I would be interested in acquiring him under the right circumstances. It would have to be even salary going both ways, so it couldnt be like AA + pick or prospect. Montreal wouldnt do it, but I would trade one of Abdelkader or Helm along with the rights to AA for him. Basically an even salary swap, so it works for the Wings. The Habs get a 3rd line Fwd, which is higher than what Galchenyuk was playing, and they have the cap space to sign AA. So they also get a potential top 6 fwd as well. -
No I'm not saying bring him up to the NHL roster over anybody. I am just saying that I prefer he remain on the Griffins roster. He wears an "A", so he is obviously a good locker room presence. At 27, he is the oldest d-man on the team. He has more NHL games he's played in than everyone else on the Griffins defense combined, including both regular season and playoffs. He brings more veteran experience and would be a much better mentor to kids like Hicketts and Hronek than McIlrath or any other defenseman on the GR roster IMO. I don't see what Big Dylan brings to the Wings roster that they don't already get from Witkowski, he seems redundant to me, so why is he needed? Russo is the same age as Sproul and has only 19 NHL games played. He clearly is not going to be an NHL dman, so why is he needed in GR? Renouf is 23, never played an NHL game ever. Why is he needed? There is wasted roster space in GR, but Lashoff isn't the reason why. Saarajarvi would get the ice time with GR he needs if Renouf or Russo weren't there. The D corp would then be Hicketts, Sproul, Hronek, Lashoff, McIlrath, Saarajarvi, and one of Russo/Renouf-who would be replaced by Cholowski next year. Also I am assuming that someone makes the Wings roster (hopefully) next year and maybe Sproul is gone. Everyone gets the ice time and the Griffins have a good mix of veterans and prospects on D. I just don't think that having your entire defense made up of 24 year olds and younger with virtually no NHL experience is the best way to groom your prospects.

I actually liked the Nielsen signing. -
Lashoff is like the perfect depth defenseman. Not good enough for full time NHL duty, but not totally useless, a solid call-up. Good veteran presence in the minors to play with the kids. He's like a Bizarro-Ericsson. He has the mental acuity of an NHL d-man, but he just lacks the physical skill.

What are the hats made of? I say throw out hats made of leather or maybe coonskin. What if the hats are actually made of octopus? Take that PETA! Yeah, like Ericsson. If I ate Octopus, I would hurl too. -

B-. Wings essentially have three 2nd lines without any real top line.

If AA signs in Switzerland, doesn't that mean they are choosing sides? I thought the Swiss were always neutral. -
Except it didn't backfire. Holland couldn't take care of it without having to meet AA's asking price which is too much, IMO. That's debatable. What's not debatable is that the team needs D a lot more than a 3rd line F. Holland addressed the greater need first- defense. That's why he brought in Daley. Would he have been able to afford Daley if he overpaid AA first? I don't think so, maybe, but I can tell you that I would much rather have a character guy with Stanley Cup pedigree and veteran experience on this team than an over-hyped, unproven, 3rd line, one way forward. So if it came down to one or the other, than Holland absolutely made the right choice. He's made a lot of questionable moves in recent years, but this aint one of them.
