He was a 17 yo kid who made a mistake. He publicly apologized, he compensated the "victim", and he has shown, what appears to be, genuine remorse. He has done everything reasonable to right the wrong. So why remove yourself from the draft too? I believe in accountability and owning up to your mistakes. I also believe in mercy and forgiveness, particularly when someone shows remorse. At some point, reasonableness needs to come in to play. This shouldnt have to haunt him for the rest of his career or ruin his life, which she seems to want happen. His self removal from the draft could just be a form of self punishment, and if it is, I would tell the kid to forgive himself, and move on. Don't ruin your future over this. My concern would be if this is about damage control. Is this to appease the twitter mob who might go after teams if they draft him? If it is, then it is about being canceled, or in this case, fear of it. And the fact that a remorseful and apologetic, 17 year old kid, who made ONE mistake should have to worry about it is ridiculous. Yes. There is a double standard.

True. But he probably felt pressured to do it. I'm all for taking responsibility, but as you said, he did that, and compensated the victim, apologized publicly, and appears to be remorseful. Time to forgive the kid and move on. He was 17. He did everything necessary to make things right. But potentially ruining his future like this is self abuse and unnecessary.

Stecher is clearly a better player than Lindstrom at this point. But his deal is up, and I don't know that he would want to re-sign knowing his place on the depth chart. Also, he would possibly have to sign for less money than he could get elsewhere since he would be bumped down to the 3rd pair. It seems Stecher may have been brought in as a placeholder until Seider was ready to go full time and was never part if Yzerman's rebuild. We'll see. I would be thrilled to keep Stecher around as 3rd pair RD, I just don't see it happening.

Next season, Seider, Hronek, and Lidstrom on the roster means Stecher no longer fills an area of need (RD). You could conceivably move him to the left side, but that doesnt solve the need for another decent LH dman behind Leddy.

Vets can easily be added via free agency as needed. You don't have to keep them on the roster for long periods of time. The reason you trade players who are older than your "timeline" is because you also need to acquire draft picks as part of your rebuild. Logically, the players that you trade for those picks are the players who are too old to fit into your rebuild, particularly if they no longer fill a need. Seider, Hronek, and Lidstrom make Stecher unnecessary. If he isn't going to be re-signed, why not trade him for a pick then?

Yes but he is still on the roster for one more year unless he gets bought out later. And yes, I would buy him out if Seattle does not take a forward. Figure that's what SY is waiting on.

Filppula is an UFA and wont be re-signed. Don't know why he would participate.

Stecher is RH, can play 2nd pair, and had a really good showing this year with Team Canada. Unless he stinks it up this season, I think a 3rd is still possible. Off by one year. Still, Seider, Hronek, and Lidstrom are all considerably younger, so my original point still stands. He wasn't part of Yzerman's future plans.
