Saying publicly that he needs to become a "elite" offensive defenseman to play in the NHL is dumb in my opinion. I don't think thats the right kind of pressure.

All of the above is of course entirely possible. I guess I just read the rumor as the Red Wings were interested in him as a hockey player.

You think the plan was to get assets for taking him off Rangers hands and then sitting him for the rest of the year to then just buy him out?

What I don't get is if Tony is a garbage teammate and Yzerman traded him away before because of that, why was Yzerman interested in acquiring him again? (As reported by Bob McKenzie who isn't very often wrong.)

Wings need to swing for the fences with all their picks imho. I would be willing to give up one of the later 2nds(EDM and NYR) but if a similar deal as DLR for Fabbri could be done I would of course favor that. Krug, Parayko and Faulk will surely be protected by STL in the expansion draft which means they are better off trading him for whatever they can get during the season rather than losing him for nothing after. This also means that the team that acquire him needs to be able to protect him as well. STL fans say that the team need a defensive defenseman. Nemeth?

Seriously though, I'll admit that I don't know much about Dunn - I don't follow the western conference too closely - but wasn't he paired with Parayko in the top 4 on that cup winning team? Being a healthy scratch 3 weeks in doesn't look good but buying low could mean profit and the Wings can afford it. What don't you like about the guy?
