Calling it right now; Cole Perfetti MVP.

Probably got a bunch of offers worth around $1m but holding out for more money. With the season actually about to start he should have to face reality real soon.

The broadcasters are gonna zoom in on the helmets at every stop of play now making sure sponsors gets their moneys worth? -
Nothing wrong with the young guys playing it rough imho. Experience will tune that out or teach them how to get away with it.

All brawn vs all lard. Whats the outlook on the 2021 class? Deeper than this year?

Pretty much were I'm at too. The guys Stephen brought in on offense are fine additions too. Namestnikov does wonders for our depth and Ryan will help out on the PP a bit but I don't think we will see any major improvement in scoring. Main reason for my skepticism is that Blashill is still the Red Wings coach next season and with five years on the job he still hasn't shown that he has any idea on how he wants the team to attack.

Greiss will be a huge additon. Howard lost 25 of 27 game last season. Only four of those losses(including two in OT) were games with a one-goal differential and very many with a score so ugly that it indicates that the team just gave up on that night. Bad goaltending break teams, especially the ones with subpar defense(being generous here). Goes the other way too, I guess, but if Greiss can keep us in a little longer in a majority of those games we could be adding 10-15 points by just the upgrade in net alone. Merrill and Stecher are fine acquisitions and will hopefully help to stabilize the defense. Jonathan Ericsson dressed up for 18 games last season..

This sucks -
Hello Julien, We’ll trade you Veleno for Johnson and Killorn if you throw in a 1st.
-
I'm torn, on one hand I think Yzerman should do whatever he needs to do gather assets but on the other I'm not liking the terms on those contracts. On the third hand I guess Johnson and Killorn is not completely useless and could be good mentors on this team. I read somewhere about Tampa adding Alnefelt which would make me feel better about it. (the post was meant as a tongue-in-cheek remark about how we really need a fifth thread on this issue btw)

So Johnson, Killorn and a 1st?????

Not sure I'm liking the direction they are going with some of the old characters. -
Timashov to Isles. For future considerations.

Some optimism in these dark trying times: The Athletic ranks Detroit 6th in Future Power Rankings; Projecting the 23-24 standings One of the biggest questions facing a dramatic rebuild is: How long does it take? If these projections are accurate, the Red Wings will be back among the top teams in three years if the progress continues. GM Steve Yzerman has remained patient in his approach in both stockpiling young assets and clearing cap space. The payoff is coming. Mirtle on the Red Wings’ improving cap situation: Other than having star players signed at a discount, the best possible situation you can have in a full-scale rebuild like Detroit’s is as much flexibility as possible. Yzerman has just one player (Anthony Mantha) under contract and almost no dead money (only Justin Abdelkader’s $1 million buyout) three years from now. That blank canvas should allow him to dramatically improve the Red Wings roster between now and then. Funny how they gave the Wings such a low score on mgmt/coaching and then continue to not mention Blashill in the summary, Or maybe it's Stephen they don't have confidence in?

I still have high hopes for Veleno too but, c'mon, if Detroit gets a guy at pick 30 that plays 1200 games at NHL level not only is that player not a dissapointment he is a great pick!

Now theres an understatement...

You are all correct. Teams will be hesitant to make the same kind of deals they made the last time. Don't forget Vegas also picked up 5 extra - including two 1st - draft picks in the process. But the kind gamble teams made that Sneed talks about will also happen again and Seattle will in some of those cases come out the winner. There is also the fresh start aspect of it. Some players will benefit from a change of enviroment and getting a clean slate/second chance. Can't get a fresher start than a new franchise.
