I don’t know how I would feel about that. I know Hank would not even set foot in Ontario and that this is just a paper move but it just feels wrong. Even if the Wings get a prospect in return.

Which was my original point in response to mackel. Zadina is not sliding among his draft class. He still in that top 5-6. I agree with what you said about centers vs wingers but given these guys stats and that they are both had struggles, some due to injury(Kotkaniemis being more serious obviously), the debate should definitely be there. If anyone in that group should drop in a re-draft its Hayton. His highest ranking before the draft was at 9 (north american skaters only) and was considered a reach. Nothing this guy has done since being drafted have proved the Coyotes right in taking him that high or him being a better player than Zadina. In my humble opinion: 1. Dahlin 2. Svechnikov/Hughes 4. Tkatchuk 5. Zadina/Kotkaniemi 9999. Hayton

Not the upgrade we need. This D needs stability and players with the ability to make plays and get the puck out of the zone. Transition is a disaster on this team.

Now that you mention it, I have never heard anyone use intangibles when talking about/evalueating a goalie. Its probably the one position where stats mean everything due to minimal part of the play. I guess a goalie can be ”clutch” though. But you can arguably use their playoff stats to make that tangible.

Even if Bernier played well this season, looking at his career, I wouldnt trust him to carry that over to next season and beyond. I like Bernie. He was a great goalie prospect that got beaten out of LA by Quick and then suffered the unimaginable fate of getting traded to the Leafs. Dude probably got no self confidence left.

There is no denying we need better goaltending. Always paying for your mistakes by getting scored on really hurts the development young defenders.

If we can buy low then I'm intrigued. No good goalie hitting UFA is willing to sign with us anyway..

Im terrible at valuing trades myself. Just wondering if its worth it? Why give up assets in this phase of the rebuild when there som good/decent goalies (probably)hitting the market this summer? Whenever this season ends and free agency begins...

What do you think he would cost us in a trade for his rights versus a sign-and-trade?

Must confess I dont watch a lot of Montreal games though I have heard rumblings about Kotkaniemi struggling too being even sent back to AHL this season. I was basically comparing stats since these kids were drafted and Hayton does not look better than Zadina in any way. First season being over a point per game player in juniors was his draft+1 year. Too small of a sample size in the AHL and worse numbers in the NHL than Zadina. Zadina is a better prospect right now than Hayton. Unless you prefer good ol’ canadian boys to euro prima donnas. Also I think I need to point out that I only commented on the Hockey Writers re-draft. To determine which of the kids will end up busts or hall-off-famers I’ll leave up to the rest of you. I’m not a huge Zadina-fanboy myself and I think we can all agree on him having a longer learning-curve than we would have liked but I still thinks its unnecessary to write him off too soon.

Q Hughes passing him by at this stage is of course correct but in no way should Hayton rank higher than Zadina. Doesnt matter he had a great WJC with Lafraniere on his wing. Zadina should stay at 6 where we took him. Or even pass Kotkaniemi to 5.

This really sucks. The 57% at 1OA wasnt even the best thing about the new proposed draft. It was that DET couldn't drop below nr 2 giving us either Lafreniere or first pick at Byfeld/Rossi/Stützle/Drysdale.. We couldnt lose in that situation.
