Well, if the Wings had sucked hard from like 199whatever until 2006, they’d have a team like Chicago (or Pittsburgh or St Louis who didn’t suck quite as bad, or the more recently sucky Oilers). But yeah, kudos to the Hawks. As far as rivals go, and although I hate them, I respect them more than the Canucks, Penguins, Sharks, Blues, etc. They play a pretty skilled, relatively diver free/D-bad free brand of hockey.

Pretty sure Kenny got everyone’s titties twisted up when he said the “playoffs weren’t a guarantee” for this team before the season started. He was referring to a healthy line-up obviously. So, to answer your question: yes I think the GM of Detroit Red Wings knows what kind of team he has.

There is no hockey justice. D-bags scoring. Injuries. FML.
-
I hope they at least get the first point they deserve.
-
Agreed. Also, as I said earlier, someone like Holmgren would.
-
Kind of like Lidstrom. I'm not a massive J-Bow fan, but if he could be had for Nyquist+Kindl+etc, then I think you'd have to make the deal. Boumeester's > Quincey or Kindl or Lashoff or Huskins or White or Cola and is on par with Kronwall.
-
He's only 29.
-
Like I said, Calgary can pay 35% of his cap hit under the new CBA. I think J-Bow is worth 4.2M. He is most definately an upgrade to what we already have. Plus, he knows how to stay healthy.

Here's a link to the article you're referring too. http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/det130216.html There's also a more recent article on Bouwmeester. http://www.thefourthperiod.com/news/cgy130218.html I say: Nyquist + Kindl + Quincey. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Calgary can eat 35% of J-Bow's deal under the new CBA. This would cut his Red Wing cap hit to 4.2M or so. Bouwmeester - Kronwall Ericsson - Smith White - Huskins Cola/Lashoff Looks OK, but if Calgary are serious about trading this guy, I'm sure Holmgren or Sather would over-pay, out-bidding Holland.

Axe, buddy, I want what you're drinking. First off, I remember Cheveldae well. He would get absolutely shellacked on this team. Same as Legace. Second, just because Holland signed Sammy for depth, and Babs unexplainably plays Cleary too much, doesn't mean Howard will get overpaid and they'll just toss Mrazek away. If any organization knows the value of goaltending, it's Detroit. If, in 3 years, Mrazek's playing "lights out", then he'll be here and he'll play. How in the hell do you know so much about what's going to happen in 3 years anyway?
-
Holland will not give Jimmy 5M+. Howard will get 4M.

Jonas Gustavsson recalled from GR, Mrazek sent back down

Monster won on Sunday in GR. 2-1. His only start. -
Picture this: 3 wings forwards crash the net. Kronwall or White blast one from the point. Shot blocked (because the D hasn't been getting pucks through the lane) then a 3-on-2 or 2-on-1 heading the other way? It all comes back to s***ty defense. In 2008, the Wings were always at the net. They had no sniper then either. The difference was that Lidstrom and Rafalski were two of the best D men in the league at getting pucks on net.

Tatar is a dork. LOL Jumped the gun there.

I think the idea isn't that Nyquist couldn't beat out those guys, rather that he is waiver exempt. Eaves or Cleary would have to be waived. Having Nyquist as the swing man who can come up or be sent down as the team needs on a game-by-game basis is ultimately what this is all about. It gives the team depth. Or, at least it's supposed to. Plus you have to consider roles. For example , Nyquist > Andersson and will be a more important player in the long run, but Andersson fits a niche right now, adding size to line 3.
-
I'm suggesting those moves happen in the offseason. That's why I said "next season". Tallinder, Murray, and Clowe could all be UFAs.
-
f*** this thread. Watch the season play out like real men (and women). Franzen - Z - Brunner Tatar - Datsyuk - Clowe Nyquist - Helm - Sammy Abby - Andersson - Tootoo Emmerton (who I really think has heart) Tallinder - Smith Kronwall - Ericsson Quincey - D. Murray Kindl/Lashoff Howard Monster Seems like a realistic and stable 23 man roster for next season.
-
Tonight's lines? Cleary's left half - Datsyuk - Flipper Cleary's right half - Z - Brunner Nyquist - Abby - Tatar Miller - Emdog - Toots
-
Is that how that works?
-
Ah yes, Bykov too.
-
s***ty. Poor Bert.
-
LOL I was trying to balance the lines by spreading out the talent. Correct. Hey, Eriksson helped us land Chelios. For that, I am eternally in his debt. Respect.
-
Along with this, comes stupid penalties. Then people can ***** about that again.

What would the worst team be? Williams - Ritolla - Calder Ellis - Hartigan - Leino Mowers - Hussey - Bootland Barnes - Robinson - Langfeld Krupp - Myrvold Rivers - Wolley Norton - Stafford LaMothe ? Coach: Dave Lewis
