SY or Mo: Who Changed Everything?

It's kind of an interesting narrative. Bedard goes to Chicago. Our biggest historical rival. We draft Danielson in the same draft, Bedard's biggest rival, but also someone he became good friends with and said was the hardest to play against. We will probably be watching a Bedard vs Danielson matchup in the playoffs in the near ffuture. Two friends. Playing for two differrent families. Montagues v Capulets. Forbidden friendship.

I don't watch the Brandon Wheat King, but everyone says they were total garbage and Danielson carried the team on hiss back, playing in all situations. So I havee faith in him for that. It will be interesting to see him join GR and get decent players like Hirose and Czarnik on his wings and seeing what he can do with that.

Yeah I agree with Buttman on that one. Fair comparison for cieling. The weirder one is Danielson IMO. He skates like the wind. Plays in all situations. But is he truly a top six scorer?

SY or Mo: Who Changed Everything?

The thing he has that lets me KNOW he's going to be good, just like I knew Zadina was going to be bad, is instincts. He's clearly reading plays faster than all 9 other players on the ice. That's what made Zberg, Dats, and Lids great, and that's ASP's best bet to becoming great. If he can keep his head up and scan the ice and read plays the same way at defense he'll turn into a monster Dman.

SY or Mo: Who Changed Everything?

Pretty much. @kipwinger Jonas takes are usually strange, but I agree with most of this here. "he's a between the blue lines guy". Which I assume Scott means he likes to defend in the neutral zone. Which he does. From what I've seen he's aggressive at the red line and defensive blue line, and likes to shutdown the opponents transition before they can enter the zone. In general he likes to close gaps instead of sitting back on his haunches. Many consider his skating to be elite. But his edgework, agility, and lateral movement are really impressive. He's a guy that can walk a blue line with the puck for days. And he's patient with the puck waiting for lanes to open... or pump faking, or head/shoulder faking, to create lanes. Cant really comment on his endurance. I'll add that I can't really comment on things like gap control or inzone offense during an opponents cycle, as I really just haven't seen enough to say. He's just so over-powered offensively that it's easy to consider him a pure offensive Dman I think. He's also undersized as a defender, which makes one think he won't be a defensive stalwart in the NHL. But so was Rafalski and guys like Crosby would tell you Rafalski was a nightmare to have to get around. So who knows, I guess we have to wait till gets to GR. But I'm also pretty sure I heard Draper or Horcoff say that they don't expect ASP in NA soon. That they expect him to play in the SHL for a few years and level up. And that's my biggest question on him. He can terrorize U20's, but can he do it against men? He hasn't really proven that yet. But I do think he can create offense at the NHL level. His instincts, shot, passing is all way ahead of the game.

I think ASP is probably our blue chip that is more of a project. He needs to add weight and learn defense and will take more time bc of this. But i think SY is probably also going to send Kronwall to sleep on his bottom bunk at his home in sweden with him for the next two years. His birth family will be locked in their garage, and he will learn to call Kronner papa. This should speed the process up a bit.

Hes an RFA with no arb rights and a cheap QO, and hes still not signed. Meanwhile SY has already re-signed Mcisaac and Newpower... you can kinda see where Veleno is on the priority list right now.

SY or Mo: Who Changed Everything?

I like all 3 of those prospects. But I also think theyre cieling is like Kronwall level. No dissrespect to Kronwall, but hes not in the same echelon as Lidstrom, Pronger, Chelios... which is the echelon I think Seider is in.

    The Yzerplan to Date

And it insulates his young players. They can now join a team this isn't great - but also isn't complete garbage. And they can learn the life from guys like Staal, Sundqqvist, Ghostbear, Etc. Like you say, it also appeases the fans and ownership.... even if we know deep down Justin Holl and Bejn Chiarot arent going to bring us to the promise land. At least it feel like we're trying. But the biggest part for me is - you can't do this strategy unless your scouting iss VERY good. Obviously SY is confident in his own scouting and his staffs. If you are not you would have to go full scorched earth and pray forr a McDavid to save you. Instead we are going to take Seiders at #6 and Kaspers and #8. I also like thiss - beccause when we are back on top - NO ONE is going to be able to say we didnt earn it. We had no lottery luck, nothing handed to us, but the Wings are back and kicking your ass because we are jusst plain better than you.

    The Yzerplan to Date

It's true - he needed multiple years just to offload Holland's garbage. We are still sitting on the Abby buyout. But I would say the 2022 offseaon was the firsst shift in a real direction. He's signing stop gaps still, but he's also signing stop gaps he knows he can flip at the deadline. He's being smart and avoiding full scorched earth - like Edmonton and Buffalo did - but also not commiting to term. He's relying on his scouts to find top5 players in the top20. Smart - and playing to advantage.

I did the same thing lat year for our UFA class and I'm keeping it at that. Joe Veleno is a terrible hockey player and I hope we stop wasting ice time on him.

SY or Mo: Who Changed Everything?

It's all Stevie Y, and Mo is a product of him. That said Mo is a generational talent. I stand by that. He's 22 and arguably one of the best Dmen in the league. He's on pace to shatter hitting and blocked shot records. He also scores points if that matters. We drafted our own Chelios. 53 is going to end up in the rafters one day.

Tony D will get an NHL job. He just won't get one for $5 mil, which is why the Flyers couldn't trade him. He was supposed to move back to the Canes. But I suspect the Canes are now in deep on a Karlsson trade, and so will need every bit of cap available. If Karlsson falls through I bet they sign Tony D to a $2 mil AAV or something. He sucks at D, but he can score. Ghostbear sucks at D too btw.

It's not even in the realm of possibility. And you know that. The only modern players to pot 60 in a season are Ovechkin, Matthews, McDavid, and Pastranak. Basically the 4 most elite snipers in the league right now. Only like 25-30 players in the entire history of the league have potted 60 goals. DCat is a good player, but he's just barely gotten over the 40 goal mark twice in 6 seasons. 60 is something HOF guys like Gretsky, Hull, and Ovie do. Dcat is more similar to Hudler than he is to them. I think we should expect 30 goals, and pray for 40 from him.

Klim Kostin Class: Soviet heavy tank Strengths: Drunk and violent Weaknesses: Violent and drunk 4. Daniel Sprong Class: Divorced middle-aged father Strengths: Not actually divorced, middle-aged, or a father. Master of disguise, which he uses to fool opponents. Weaknesses: Not actually a master of disguise, just aging very badly for a 26 year old. 5. Christian Fischer Class: Acquaintance Strengths: Gives you the silent downward acknowledging head nod that all men do when you pass by each other, and doesn't push your relationship farther than that. Weaknesses: Just some guy at the office that you're aware of. You have no idea what he does there and often forget his name. 6. Shayne Gostisbehere Class: Ghost Bear Strengths: Can pass through walls and will bring you salmon Weaknesses: Your trash bins are flipped over every morning 7. Justin Holl Class: Bad defenceman Strengths: Makes your other defencemen look good Weaknesses: Makes your defense look bad 8. James Reimer Class: Cleric Strengths: Hates rainbows Weaknesses: Has none since he accepted Jesus and Mel Gibson into his heart

    New New Prospects Thread

He's definitely the "dark horse" prospect. Could be the forward version of Ericsson. Could be a monster down low forward who can not only beat you with size and strength but with soft hands and sexy dangles too. A combo that in theory seems almost impossible to stop. Unlike with terrible prospects like Cholo and Zadina and Veleno, we've actually seen flashes of his brilliance. I think we just have to patient. He may not become his true self till like 24 or 25. Really don't want to see him in the NHL this year. It's still way too early for him IMHO.
