I want to finally kill the notion that you can't judge players because they're young. It boggles my mind. We spend all year judging draft picks.. but then you draft them and suddenly their skills are no longer open to interpretation. It was quite obvious we got bunk picks in Zadina and Cholowski. But the TOO SOON crowd was out in full force for years protecting them. Call it like you see it on any player, regardless of age.

So with Melynk's death his wife and two daughters have ownership. The Sens still have a 1 billion dollar lawsuit against them that gets settled in September/October. Obviously the Melnyk gals are looking to sell the team. But probably the deal doesn't get done till after the lawsuit. It will be interesting to see the actions of the team this offseason. I can't see Melynk's family wanting the team to spend any money. And Eugene was already a known cheap ass with his team. You know what this means don't you? Players are going to want new deals to start the 2025-26 season to maximize their earnings under the new cap. I suspect agents will be going hard this summer to get their clients 3 year deals. This timing is perfect for us. Most of our current prospects (and ones drafted this year) will be ready to come up in 3 seasons. Lets sign some stop gaps for 3 seaons, then ditch them all once their contracts are done and enjoy our nice fat cap space and plenty of ELC's. Go after a UFA star at that time.
