    2022 TDL

You're splitting hairs. He said there were talks but nothing serious. Nothing serious can mean anything. And he's of course going to downplay anything that didn't come to fruition. The tweet indicates he tabled a very fair offer for Barzal, and the islanders didn't accept. Nothing serious can absolutely mean he tried to get Barzal but Lou wasn't serious with his asking price. Again, this Barzal thing will always be a rumor. All we know is what an insider at the athletic said. But it doesn't become a completely debunked rumor because of Yzermans press conference. Yzerman is never gonna let us peek at those cards. He's not even ever going to admit he had cards.

    2022 TDL

HSJ asked about our players. Not if he was after anyone. Regardless what do you expect him to say? Yeah I tried to move Zadina and Bertuzzi but it fell through? I highly doubt other teams only made serious offers on Namestnikov, Leddy, and Stecher. We're never gonna get transparency from Yzerman. Just like we can suspect and ask if he's gonna fire blash, but he won't actually tell anyone until it's already done. The two players who had rumors around them that didn't move were Bertuzzi a d Zadina. I wonder if they were part of a package for Barzal and it never got done. Would explain why whispers were leaking about them.

    2022 TDL

It's explained that it was about Barzal over on HF boards... but the tweets have since been deleted. Still a rumor from an insider at the end of the day even if they weren't deleted. I just assume NOT Bertuzzi because of the big extension Bert will need. Islanders are cap strapped, which is why I'm assuming their even considering moving Barzal in the first place. Barzal would need an extension this coming year just like Bert. I think Hronek or Vrana or Fabbri makes more sense for their cap situation. But hey maybe there was more coming back to us than just Barzal to make Bertuzzi work IDK.

    2022 TDL

IDK why it took me this long, but I just made this connection... Lane Lambert and Matt Barzal both work for the Islanders, and Stevie is rumored to be in on both of them... How great would it be if we could acquire Barzal and bring over Lambert at the same time. Welcome to the Wings Matt, oh and btw we went out and got your old coach for you. Rookie roommates Stevie and Lambert win their first cup together as manager and head coach 40 years later. Cute.

Mel Pearson for HC? Been a long time NCAA coach for U of M and has absolutely picked up where Red Berenson left off for the Wolverines. Could hire him as soon as he's done blowing out the NCAA finals for an easy championship.

Forgot Paul Maurice is also available. Heavy ties to Michgan. From Sault Ste. Marie. Coached in Detroit/Windsor for 9 years before joining the NHL.

Trotz kept a pretty tight staff over the years. Didn't go through lots of assistants, and took guys like Lambert with him from Nashville to Washington and then to NYI. Maybe Lambert poaches some of his old friends... Todd Reirden - asst coach Pens John Gruden - asst coach NYI (coached teams around Michigan from 2005 to 2016) Jim Hiller - asst coach NYI (coached under Babs for the Wings one season in that last Babs year) Phil Housley - asst coach Yotes Blaine Forsythe - asst coach Caps You hate to fire Tanguay after one season just cause of Blash... Lambert is probably a good guy to let pick the goalie coach too... he's been picking the brain of Mitch Korn since his Washington days

The other thing that needs to be addressed in the goalie coach. Saljako was the f*** stick we brought in to replace Bedard cause Mrazek didn't like Bedard. Lotta good that did. Mrazek went to s***, Howard fell off a cliff, now our goalies are getting lit up again. Head Coach: Blashill Lambert Assist Coach: Houda Gronborg Assist Coach: Tanguay (keep) Goalie Coach: Saljako ?????

    2022 TDL

Apparently Detroit was trying get Matt Barzal from the Islanders at the TDL but the deal never happened (twitter thread has since been deleted). Maybe that's why Steve was ticked off in his presser? His "very fair offer (swindle)" big splash move didn't get done? Islanders have most of their team locked up for a long time - except Barzal. It's gonna be hard to give him an extension on long island. Had to check Barzal's stats - after his inaugural 85 pt season, he's regressed to a 65 pt center over the last 4 years, on a pretty good team. He's about to turn 25. He makes $7 mil next year then becomes RFA. What do you offer for a guy like this? I have no idea what NYI would want in return. Probably young players who don't cost much, but could contribute now I'd assume. To NYI: Rasmussen + Zadina + Wallinder + 1st To DET: Barzal Maybe we can offersheet him next year. $8.2 x 7. Would cost us a 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Not sure they can match that without moving other pieces. Next summer: Vrana - Larkin - Raymond Fabbri - Barzal - Bertuzzi Ras - Veleno - Zadina Smith - Pearson - Stephens

Brad Shaw - asst coach for Vancouver Nate Leaman - college Mike Babcock - college Todd Reirden - asst coach for Pittsburgh Claude Julien - idk Bob Hartley - KHL Rick Tocchet - idk David Quinn - college Kirk Muller - asst coach for Calgary Pascal Vincent - asst coach for CBJ Lane Lambert - asst coach for NYI Jim Montgomery - asst coach for STL Todd Nelson - asst coach for Dallas Mike Vellucci - asst coach for Pittsburgh John Tortorella - TV I guess Coach Q - idk Manny Malhotra - asst coach for Toronto Marco Sturm - asst coach for LA Rickard Gronborg - Switzerland Patrick Roy - QMJHL Some of those are more realistic than others. As far as vets go, I doubt Babs, Julien, Q, Hartley, or Roy want to coach the current Red Wings. Maybe Tocchet, Quinn, or Torts would. I'm hesitant to get someone like Gronborg with no NHL experience. The rumors I heard about him were Wings were interested in him for an assistant role. Lane Lambert, like you say is probably the most obvious pickup, but I also think Jim Montgomery would be a sneaky good pickup. He was really well liked and was up and coming in Dallas before they found the martini bar in his office. Now he's sober and working his way back up the ranks. Would be a nice little redemption story for a guy who probably has a lot more to give.

JB needs another decade just in case. In the meantime we can continue the carousel of unimpactful assistant coaches.

    Goals Against

I say we reward Jeff, and the players, with another season of his tenure.

    BLASHILLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

11 goals against? Ha, that's not Blashills fault guys. Blash is only the 2nd current longest tenured coach. We need about another 30 years to build the roster b4 we can accurately get a true sample size and determine his abilities. Firing him now is pointless because no coach on earth could do better than the most goals scored against in a single game in the cap era, obviously. Ignore the weeks (and seasons) of embarrassing games leading up to this rock-bottom. It's not a big enough sample size. This guy SPEAKS to young powerhouse players like Zadina, Cholowski, Rasmussen, Veleno, and Svechnikov, and truly turns them into their best. When we sign stop gap X and stop gap Y this off-season, look out, Blashills abilities will truly shine then. Trust the plan. This guy is good. And the players are MOTIVATED.

    2022 TDL

If their future is screwed its because they completely blundered the 2015 entry draft. Bergeron is aging, but he'll age well. So will Marchand. They were able to adequately replace Chara and Rask. Defense and wingers are pretty decent. All they need to do is gun for centers for the next 4 years. I don't see them completely falling off like we did anytime soon.

Hi boomers. Welcome to the next generation.

    2022 TDL

I mean they'll have to replace Bergeron... but they still have young stars. Who knows what other great pieces they'll add between now and Bergs retirement. Lotta folks thought Boston would lose step without Chara, but hey look it's McAvoy and now Lindholm.

Mazur and Buium are fantastic players. Tuomisto is a bust. Yzermans first draft bust.

    2022 TDL

Obviously there's no cap in fantasy (they should include an option to have one). Nope I tried to make reasonable marginal improvements to go for it, without completely blowing up my next season. Lost in the finals to the guy who went buckwild selling his future to win now. After the first season 2 or 3 guys ghosted the league and it all kinda fizzled out. You gotta have a league where guys are committed to coming back next season clearly. Adding Lindholm is a reasonable improvement for this team. Especially with our cap and number of future ELC players. This isn't a tanking team anymore. We have young superstars who need to be built upon, with more on the way. I'm not saying don't sell at the deadline. I'm saying it's to make meaningful improvements. Lindholm was the most meaningful improvement we could have made this off-season. I don't think we're not a destination anymore. Players see Yzermans building a winner. They see our young stars. One of these Dman is going to be salivating to play next to Seider. Maybe that was Lindholm. Maybe that's someone else. Going forward I can see Zadorov or De Haan or Maata highly motivated to sign here. Maybe even short term. Their goal will be to get big ice time and play with Seider to improve their careers and get another pay day. All three have taken hits to their careers recently. Maatas offense drying up. De Haans offense drying up and being traded around. Zadorov being forced down to 3rd pairing and off his PK unit. We can offer any of them tremendous oppurtunity here. Lindholm wouldve been real nice though.

Not if you play in a multiseason league (the remaining members of LGW should be doing this). You can protect some of your players at season end. Unprotected go back into the draft pool. And you can trade picks for players. Played in a 12 team league with full 23 man rosters doing this. It's pretty fun but just one GM who ghosts the league spoils it quickly. It gives fantasy GMs an actual motivation to sell players and pick swap b4 the TDL. One guy will inevitably go for building a HOF team swapping all his future picks down. But then he loses a lot of really good players in next years draft with no good way to recoup them. Selling teams will sell all their vet or prime players (keep superstars) and then load up on picks and young players who might "break out" next year. Really stimulates trading, which is a fun part of sports obviously.

    GDT 3/24/22 - Red Wings v. Islanders:

I'm fearing for our goalie situation. Just when you think SY has engineered a solution it's crap again. Clearly Ned is still very much a rookie. It's obvious he was stellar to start the season but has now succumbed to the grind and is falling apart. This was always my fear with young players. Leaning on them too heavily and wrecking their confidence in formative years. I for one still agree with the Holland "over ripening" concept. We're approaching now not just being able to add JVP. We will have to add a legit starter again. Not good. I have been traveling for the last several days and have missed games (thankfully I guess). Can someone give an honest assessment of the new players? I knew Sundqvist would be well liked immediately, but how is Walman? I hear really good things, but just blanket statements so far. Who is he most comparable too?

    2022 TDL

We'd be getting Lindholm in UFA. No way Yzerman buys him at the TDL. Our off-season is pretty much ruined now that Boston has locked him up. There is literally no one even comparable available. Now we will waste another year of Seiders ELC playing him with a new bum partner. Vrana - Larkin - Raymond Fabbri - Veleno - Bertuzzi Ras - Suter - Sundqvist Erne - Stephens - Soderblom Lindholm - Seider Edvinsson- Hronek Walman - Lindstrom Ned JVP That's a playoff team. Legit top 6 when Veleno takes the next step. Zadina can be traded for a center if necessary or scratched. Soderblom is too big and talented to ignore in GR. Legit bottom 6. Solid mix of size grit and skill. Erne will find his game again in a contract year. Lindholm, Edvinsson, and Seider are big minute stallions. Hronek, Walman, and Lindstrom is a solid group to handle the lesser minutes. JVP is one of, if not thee, best goalie outside the NHL. He will end up battling Ned for that starting role. I'm not sure folks realize how talented this team really is. Vrana will be back for a full season, that is huge. Seider is literally Pronger/Chelios. Oh and wait we're adding another carbon copy of him in Eddog next year. Bertuzzi hasn't even begun to peak. Sodabomb is Franzen on steroids. Raymond is already the most offensively talented player on the roster. We're poised NOW to make a push. Vrana (Palat) - Larkin (Toews) - Raymond (D Sedin) Fabbri (Tatar) - Veleno (Krejci) - Bertuzzi (Marchand) Ras (Boyle) - Suter (Jarnkrok) - Sundqvist (Glendog) Erne (Ott) - Stephens (Beagle) - Soderblom (Franzen) Lindholm (Fischer) - Seider (Pronger) Edvinsson (Chelios) - Hronek (Green) Walman (Quincey) - Lindstrom (Jensen) Ned (Osgood) JVP (Mrazek)

You must be high We can't even offer an 8 year contract. You don't know how UFA works, much like Marc. Leave the big thinking to the big boys. You completely misunderstand or misrepresent Scott's take on Larkin. You're like dealing with a child. Step it up boomer.
