The first part is a pretty shallow way to view diversity IMO. If they want to add diversity of thought they should be adding someone (regardless of race, sex, creed) from a different industry. Hire an MLB, NBA, WNBA, NFL manager/executive etc. Hire from an industry outside of sports. They haven't named names on who the three women are. But the names I'm seeing being speculated are all French-Canadian. If they wanted to add someone with an alternative viewpoint, ANOTHER Quebecois, regardless of sex, is a bit asinine IMO. I think the true diversity hire here is ironically white male Jeff Gorton. Because he's Anglo. He's going to do the vast majority of heavy lifting behind the scenes, and they'll hire his French Canadian mouthpiece to be "GM" AKA spokesman/spokeswoman/media lightning rod. So it find it funny that if they do hire a female GM, it's basically going to be a pseudo position. That said, I hope she's an absolute baberino in front of the cameras that makes me forget all about how awful muh habies rebuild is going. And to the last part, I partially agree. As much as we moan about the old boys club, I see a real advantage to hiring someone who's a part of it. Most of them have been there done that on the ice and in the lockerrooms. Have contacts and comrades across the league. Hard to look past those real intangibles. Someone new the NHL probably has a pretty steep learning curve. -

Tuzzi Gangers RISE UP! This post brought to you by Society -
I don't know much of anything about Holloway other than he was drafted by Tyler Wright and is already dealing with a big injury. For either of those two reasons alone I'd avoid. I trust Draper/Yzerman a helluva lot more with a an extra first than I do Tyler Wright and Dylan Holloway. The knock on Broberg has always been that he doesn't play defense. It seems to be true. He's consistently been a minus player in the SHL. Was only +1 in the AHL despite scoring 10 pts in 13 games. And now he's -8 in 8 games with the Oilers. Johanssen and Wallinder are/is already playing better than Broberg did in the SHL at the same age. He might turn out great, we just don't need him.

https://theathletic.com/3012418/2021/12/13/le-calepin-du-canadien-des-femmes-candidates-pour-le-poste-de-dg-les-pires-et-les-meilleurs-trios-et-plus/ As soon as it's no longer about hiring the best candidate, you've already shot yourself in the foot I love headlines like these. It's not interesting because the most qualified candidate happens to be a woman. It's interesting because Molson is entertaining hiring women because they're women. Is Molson a raging misogynist incel who wouldn't even consider women before today??? The whole thing screams "Please forget that we drafted Logan Mailloux". Now if they interview one of these women and she turns out to be a genius hockey brain, fantastic, hire her. But articles like these are already undermining her perceived competence by making this out to be a diversity hire lol. And it doesn't help that if she is hired as the first female GM ever, she also won't have the full powers of the job.... with Gorton behind her guiding the ship. Implying a female can't do the job without a mans help lol. Gotta love the Habs. They limit themselves to French speakers only, and are now admittedly (thinking about) inserting diversity hires into the most important role in their organization The only way to build a great front office is clear. ONLY hire fan favorite former players. Darren McCarty for Wings Mental Skills coach, come on down! -
You beat me to my next post. Broberg has been playing their 6th spot, and hasn't been playing well. That's why they want to add another LHD. Not that I wouldn't be willing to wait with him. But I'm certainly not interested in adding more Holland/Wright prospects. I'd much rather hand Draper another 1st and see what he does with it. Like you said, hopefully he uses that on a center.
-
So you're okay taking "bad contracts" if Greiss + Ryan + 5th + Broberg (instead of a 1st) is involved? Sure, but I'm not advocating keeping any of these players besides Koekkoek. What's your problem with Koekkoek? Maybe you can get a tiny amount "bad player compensation" for Ryan, but that's about it. This is a very cheap player. Koekkoek has a very market fair contract for his services - and that has value - and Turris is a short term rental. Again, adding Ryan doesn't hurt our team in anyway, or at least it's so little with our cap space it's completely negligible.
-
So let me get this straight... Holland offers you Broberg + 3rd for Leddy (50%) + Namestnikov... and you say no, because he also needs to toss in Turris and Koekkoek to make the deal work? I mean, I really don't want to get into debating the entire concept of why a team needs depth players, but yes we could actually use a guy like Koekkoek, and his presence in no way stops us from signing "big name UFAs". Koekkoek is a career 7th Dman who's going to fill the role of a cheap injury replacement like Biega, Witkowski, Bowey, Marchenko for one season. LHD Edvinsson UFA Oesterle Koekkoek Turris would be here a couple months - you can scratch him if you like - then he's gone. Ryan can be dealt, sunk, bought out. It's not really a big deal. I'm shocked this is your hang up. Do you think Yzerman wanted Richard Panik? No, he was a cap dump by WSH to make the Mantha deal work. Do you think Holland wanted Joe Vitale coming back when he traded Datsyuk? No, it was just a minor contract to make the deal work.
-
Believe the last time the banner was updated was early 2016 Anyone ever notice Larkin's belly creeping over his shorts in the banner? Looks fat. Trade now.
-
Oilers need to clear cap space. You can probably still include Broberg, we just won't be getting that 1st round pick coming back if that's the case.
-
Yes. Because Oilers can't make the deal work without sending Cap back. The only questionable contract/player to obtain in my original scenario is Derek Ryan. Turris you can use as a 4th liner or healthy scratch for a few months, then he's UFA. Koekkoek is just another cheap Biega. He can play 7th D for us next year. And we do need LHD depth next year. Ryan has 1 more year left of a $1.25 cap hit, and it's not a 35+ contract. So literally we can just waive and bury him in the minors. But honestly I'd expect Yzerman to just trade him for future considerations or buy him out in the off season if he really doesn't want him as a 13th forward filling a Rowney role. We will have no limitations on cap, and just saving the real dollars is probably worth it to the organization. Like I said, if you have a problem with that contract, just toss out him and Griess.
-
Can't say I agree. I thought out the compensation pretty logically. >Leddy went to us for a 2nd + 50% Panik Pretty safe to assume we can get a low 1st in exchange for Leddy at 50% >Namestnikov has in the past been traded once for a 4th at the TDL, and again for a 4th + low end prospect at a 2nd TDL. Pretty safe to assume that - with how cheap and well he's performing right now - we can get a 3rd for him. >That leaves 50% Greiss + the EDM depth players + the 5th Greiss isn't much of, if it all, an upgrade for them. It's depth goaltending. Turris + Ryan + Koekkoek aren't valueless either. These are depth contributors for them that aren't on dump level contracts. Taking back 3 depth skaters and a 5th for a goalie , who's probably done at the NHL level this summer, I think is beyond generous of them to give Detroit. The reason I think my hypothetical trade gets rejected is because they're not interested in Greiss at all. In that case I think Turris + Koekkoek + 1st + 3rd for 50% Leddy + Namestnikov would be the deal to make. We get our picks and Koekkoek as a depth Dman next year (SY drafted him). EDM only adds $2.2 in cap.
-
No you can do 3. Panik is the only one on our books. Oilers need to send back cap in order to make a deal work. It's sort of a necessity.
-
To EDM: Greiss (50% retained) + Leddy (50% retained) + Namestnikov To DET: Derek Ryan + Kyle Turris + Slater Koekkoek + 1st + 3rd (2023) + 5th Oilers add only $2.75 mil in cap and fill all their needs. Wings add a PK forward in Ryan and a depth LHD in Koekkoek for next season. Turris can be dropped after this year.

Zberg says Yzerman probably would have taken Raymond #1 overall https://hockeysverige-se.translate.goog/2021/12/11/henrik-zetterberg-hyllar-lucas-raymond-smatt-sensationell?_x_tr_sl=sv&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US

Never minded MDZ. He's the kind of partner who would be perfect for Seider. Pushing Leddy down to Hronek's pairing. Won't happen though cause SY doesn't have the balls. -

I don't know much about Holloway TBH. Was he supposed to make the Oilers this year? I am hesitant to move our GOOD roster players for other teams unproven prospects. If the deal was Leddy for Holloway straight up I'd do it all day. My guess is the Wild will want to move Zuccarello soon Good. The Olympic break is unironically R-slurred. -

After being picked up and sitting as a healthy scratch for 15+ games with the Caps, Cholo has played 4 games as the #6 Dman, scored no points and went -4. He's scratched again.

It deprives them of true competitive olympics when major medal wining countries don't show up. Olympic games that China bribed it's ass off to get. -

If Blash was coaching GR he'd be benched and the Griffins would be calling up Walleye's to play over him. Fortunately this is not the case. -
