The Mystery of The Missed Playoffs Season 9 - 2025 Detroit Red Wings; Off-Season of Change.
Jimmybigrigs69 replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
1. Jimmy D is 500 years old. Time for him to retire so SY can be promoted to his position of President, much like his colleagues Sakic and Shanahan. 2. Promote Draper to GM. This should buy the team another year or two of honeymoon phase from fans. 3. Use honeymoon window to (partially) tear down this team one more time... 3A. Send Larkin to play with BFF Werenski in exchange for RW Chinakhov + LHD Mateychuk + 1st + 1st 3B. Trade each of Rasmussen and Berggren anywhere, each for a 2nd/3rd. 4. Buyout Holl + Gus + Tarasenko and go full youth 5. Make Kane captain to keep him on >by moving to prez and installing Drapes as GM Stevie can sidestep the fan outrage that will surely come from trading the precious DBaby. The extra draft capital should be enough for the final push into a new age, along with the rest of our farm. Debrincat - Kasper - Raymond Mazur - Compher - Kane Soderblom - Copp - Chinahkov MBN - Danielson - Watson Chiarot - Seider Edvinsson - AJo Mateychuk - ASP -
>15 seasons as an NHL GM >failed to make the playoffs in 9 of those seasons (60% fail rate) >despite missing playoffs 9/15 times, hes only made 16 selections in the 1st round (1 extra) >never managed a team to a cup win >despite lack of sucess has somehow only fired 3 coaches in 15 seasons >biggest contribution to his current team/NHL was adding ads to their jerseys and helmets >this mans name is Stephen Yzerman >picture unrelated

The Mystery of The Missed Playoffs Season 9 - 2025 Detroit Red Wings; Off-Season of Change.
Jimmybigrigs69 replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
I dont truly know if its time to trade away a 1st for a NOW upgrade... but at the very least that move would be CLEAR DIRECTION for this team. It's fuqqing maddening to me, this fence sitting. Again we didnt make the playoffs. Again we sold nothing for futures. And again we are going into an offseason where SY will likely have to pay to get rid of his own trash. It's inexcusable. I dont know what direction is best. I tend to lean more towards conserving, and acquiring more futures, as long as we arent in the playoffs... but SY isnt doing that, so screw it, why not. Spend the picks. Go all in. Its better than acquiring more mediocre vets and missing the playoffs again... which we all know is exactly what SY is going to do... Imagine if we had actually sold last year... Walman, thats an extra 1st, now we have MBN and Cole Eiserman. Sprong, Ghostbear, Fabbri, Veleno... thats multiple extra mid round picks. This year we could have sold Ras, Berggren, and maybe even pitched getting Kane onto a contender. BOYYYYY IT SURE WOULD BE EASIER TO STOMACH SPENDING A 1ST TO GET A BYRAM IF WE HAD, YA KNOW, AN EXTRA 1ST TO SPEND say it with me folks... IF WE DONT BELIEVE ENOUGH IN THIS TEAM TO BOLSTER THE ROSTER AT THE TDL THEN WE DONT BELIEVE ENOUGH IN THIS TEAM TO HORDE EXPIRING CONTRACTS EITHER Im sick of this pathetic team and SYs bullspit these last two years. Are we watching the same teams? We clearly arent ready to compete for anything. The roster is soooo physically and mentally soft. After SY gets finished wasting our cap space and picks to get rid of his own roster trash this summer, so he can go shopping for his next round of mediocre plugs all over again, please for the love of all that is holy at least get plugs who have a little sandpaper on them. This team is so easily outworked, pushed around, and soft. Ras = little girl. Eddvinsson = wears sun dresses. For petes sake, the grittiest player on this team is a 5'6" little dwarf man named Debrincat. I wonder if its time to hand this team to Draper, or Horcoff, or Lidstrom. Sheit maybe even Fedorov, or someone else not in the org. If I'm Illitch... i just watched you panic sell your coach (likely to save ur own azz) and that worked for about 2 seconds... but in the end it only delayed the inevitable fall, which came, and now youre going into ur 7/8 season here, and still havent delivered me a single playoff birth. If SY isnt seriously being talked about needing to be replaced behind closed doors, i would honestly be shocked. And looking at our contracts I have zero confidence we can make the moves necessary to avoid this same outcome next year... sux to say, but i wouldnt be upset to see the captain dismissed at this point. Shame its come to this. -
I was stunned back when they fired Jeff Gorton. IMO he was one of the best GMs in the biz at that time. And it really seemed to me that they were just afraid of losing Chris Drury... like when we lost Yzerman to Tampa. So they canned him in favor of Chris. Since then Drury hasnt done much of anything of note, and he seems to be skilled at pizzing off his own lockerrom. This is why I think its super risky to hire guys like Yzerman or Drury. Because... what if you have to fire them? Lotta rags fans want Drury gone, but Lebrun literally just reported that he has Dolan's full confidence and likely wont be fired this summer... lol This is exactly the problem... Gorton built a great Rags team, but was seemingly easy to fire the moment he slipped up at all. And now Drury has mismanaged it completely, but is gonna be allowed to continue on... bc his name is loyal rags legend Chris Drury.

Some juicey drama unfolding with NYR... Calvin De Haan is reportedly very unhappy with how hes been treated in NY, and, according to himself, is prepared to unload about it once the season ends. For reference, De Haan was with the Avs until the Rags traded for him at the TDL. The Rags played him in 3 games after being acquired (2 of which were shutout wins, and De Haan had zero goals scored against him in all 3 games) and then healthy scratched him for the remainder of the season. So essentially, they ripped him from a cup contender, didnt use him at all, and now the Rags have missed the playoffs. Couple this with the other rumors: >all the trouba drama that finally resulted in them trading their captain mid season >Chytill mutually agreed to be traded, indicating the players lack of wanting to remain on the team >Kakko also traded, and has mostly thrived since joining Seattle, unlike his time in NYR... >rumors swirling about bad blood between GM Drury and assistant captain Chris Kreider.. >Lavy won them the pres trophy last year (year 1) but now has missed the playoffs the very next year... this doesnt happen often >they circumvented Barclay Goodrows NTC by waiving him, and SJS agreeing to claim him, which Goodrow was publicly angry about Will be interesting to see what unfolds. Hoping that De Haan and guys like Trouba trauma dump on us this offseason.

The Mystery of The Missed Playoffs Season 9 - 2025 Detroit Red Wings; Off-Season of Change.
Jimmybigrigs69 replied to LeftWinger's topic in General
Been saying it for SEASONS with an S now... but we are again stuck in the mushy middle. Worse, we are not even inching into wild card spots... now we will pick outside of the top 10 instead of top 3 or top 5 (again). Its all so tiresome. The problem is the team literally has no direction. Are we a rebuilder? Are we a potential contender? SY seems to not know (or worse, not care). I have absolutely zero confidence in his ability to do anything of significance this offseason. In fact, I would probably be happiest if he cuts his losses and sheds contracts instead of "loading up" for another failed season... The roster situation is not good. We can shed Kane, Smith, and Petry this summer... but still we will not be able to make a reasonable pass at a significant impact player (like Marner). Its eerily similar to the late Holland era. Directionless. Handcuffed by bloated contracts. Poor on ice product. After Xmas Despicable Me got fired... Todd comes in and seemingly saves the season... and then all the wheels on the bus fall off (again). If SY hasnt read the tea leaves, and realized the problem is his roster, and not his coach, by this point, we are so epicly fuqqed... for a while... This team needs radical, and wholesale change. I think SY is one of the very few sports managers who likely has a leash long enough to admit that to his boss and not lose his job. Does he have the humility to actually do it? We will see. When I say radical change, i mean major moves. 1. Larkin has to go He's captained a group that continually falls short and dissapoints year after year. He's approaching 30... This isnt a playing days yzerman who wins scoring titles and wins cups late in life... This is a very mediocre run of the mill 1C at best. Illitch and SY have chained us to this poor excuse for a "leader" with his most recent contract, and hes a "hometown" jersey seller... so i doubt the org will have the nuts to move on from him... but again (and we toldyaso) everyone in the room knows we are not delivering a cup while he remains as the teams leader and focal point. I would regain a lot of faith in this org if they nutted up and sat Larkin down this summer and asked him where he wants to be traded. We love you. We appreciate all youve done. But its time for you to go run shotgun to a mackinnon while we retool. 2. Buyouts - Gus, Vlad, and Holl If we have to watch these three skate out onto Lil C ice this fall I will continue to punish u ppl with Lions threads. Bc that is all I will care about. SY - admit your mistake and send them packing - them remaining rostered will scream of hubris (and poor management). 3. Trade - Rasmussen Its been a fun experiment. But he is not the product advertised, or even particularly good at being the alternative player we tried to develop him into. Not trading him now - while he still has youth and value - will become another regreted toldyaso so moment in 2-3 years time. 4. Re-sign - no one Sorry Kaner. You're old and poor definsively. Go relax in your glory years on the next suckers roster. Further, the last thing this team needs is more plugs. Shedding would help more than adding. --------------------------------------------- Imagine this scenario: >larkin agrees to a trade, and we send him to his boyhood fan team the tronna leafs. In exchange we acquire the rights to negotiate with Mitch Marner. Leafs get a solid player with term, and we get a verified superstar they can no longer afford. >Ras is sent away for a solid young RHD. >We buyout the losers Unfortunately I dont think SY has a big enough peepee for any of this and will likely just add more crap ass players to the roster... honestly i wouldnt be mad if we went back to marc staal-esque moves and took on cap for picks. But its not likely. -------------------------------------------- Lastly, I wanna make one more point about the deadhorse walman and fabbri trades, that I thought about the other day... Its generally accepted at this point that SY was trying to clear cap for Stamkos, but - as reported - pizzabro didnt get back to him in time to approve the signing and we lost the player. No big deal. Im not mad about losing out on stammer. He's been mostly pizz poor for Nash. However, HOW DA FUQ did you not get approval from ur boss for this move months prior? Did SY literally not start checking who was available in FA until day of??? And why TF are you giving away picks and solid young players to clear space BEFORE getting approval to sign the player you want to do this for??? Im sorry fellow fans - but I really think SY has been a different manager since returning to Detroit. The hunger and dilligence are gone. Hes in retirement mode in a position he knows he can half ass and not be fired from. And hes built a nepotistic office of all his old buddies that are doing the same thing. 7 years. The savior is 7 years in and has not saved us from, nor accomplished, anything. Therefore my radical move #5 is fire yzerman. We are rapidly approaching that conversation and reality. -
And there it is. Best of all time. In the exact same number of games. 1 goal more. Grets can eat a spray tanned dick
-
Unless Kasper/Danielson/Lombardi are better centers than Larkin... we're pretty much fuqqed And I think you all realize theyre not. We need a true 1C. Were on 7 years of Yzerman and no freak Datsyuks or Zs have emerged. This organization made a mistake not trading Larkin when his last contract was up. Its beyond obvious. And now we will waste years and then trade him for peanuts outside of his prime. Im honestly more interested in the Tigers at this point and I hate baseball. SY has bungled this pretty badly. Its goung to be "another 5 years" for the next 30 years and counting. Im almost more disillusioned than the depths of the blash years at this point. Unbelieveable.

So Keith Gave - former detroit beat reporter - posted on X that the Wings org feels the league is anti detroit and actively unermines the wings and theyre not happy about it (he was responding in regards to things like losing lottery picks specifically) Weve suspected this for years. Do you believe it? Do you believe it more now that Gave is reporting this is how the org feels?
-
Mcllelan comes in and seemingly saves the team... few months later and its in absolutely tatters again. Hmmmmm Its almost like... maybe we dont have a coaching problem? Maybe we have a roster problem? Its almost like failing to choose a teams direction leads to perpetual mediocre picks and mediocre talent, which pertually makes you mediocre, and therefore you perpetually draft more mediocre talent, and you perpetually end up with mediocre results... allowing to perpetually draft more mediocre talent. A cyclical self fufilling prophecy. This is a league designed for tanking or going all in. And that is why Yzerman has failed.
-
Shapiro is reporting Griffs may very well have MBN, ASP... AND Trey for the calder playoffs. Mrazek and Talbot deals end after next season. It would be excellent if the wings can get Trey inked this summer and get him to forego his junior college season. Talbot/Mrazek tandem in DET Cossa/Augustine tandem in GR With Cossa cycling into the DET lineup when Talbs and Mraz are getting gassed and hurt. With the real aim of him slowly prepping to take over the net after next season. At that point I think SY will seek a mentoring vet for Cossa to backstop him on a short term deal. Allowing Augustine to cook by himself in GR for at least a season or two before our holy tandem takes shape.

I was absolutely going to compare him to Walman in my post, but forgot. Thanks. I think there's a strong possibility he may very well be better than Walman as well. And it's doubtful TBL can retain him this summer. A 3 year deal for him would be superb this offseason. Yeah I dont see it. Not the MO of SYs build. I think it's important to note more than a few contracts end after NEXT season. Mostly at D. Holl, Chiarot, and Gustafsson only have 1 season left on defense. This is going to radically change the defense quickly, and I'm praying our griffs will be ready to fill those roles internally after next season. Eddog - Seider Ajo - Perbix Buium - ASP Wallinder A lot is going to depend on Ajo and ASPs development. Can AJo be better than just an upgraded Gustav Lindstrom? Can ASP survive a full NHL season and transition his game to the big time after one year in GR? If no on those we will likely be signing more stop gaps like Perbix/Chiarot etc... -
Nathan Mackinnon and Sidney Crosby. Pregame meal: vegan lentil-based gluten-free spinach carbofagmo pasta and a water. Ovechkin and Kessel. Pregame meal: 12" subway cold cut combo with flaming hot cheetos and flat pepsi in a gatorade bottle. Guess who has more cups.
-
We had a good team, you stupid son of a b*tch! We had Hossa. We had Datsyuk. We had everything we needed, and it all ran like clockwork. You could've liked your team and won as many cups as you ever needed. It was perfect. But, no, you just had to overpay your depth players and sign washed vets longterm. You and your pride and your liking of your team! You just had to kick tires. If you'd actually scouted Zadina, and promoted SY and Nill, we'd all be fine right now.

It began with the forging of the great hoagies of power. 3 were given to the Phil Kessel... the coolest and most skilled of all out of shape fat guys. 7 to the Big Buff... destroyer of forwards and only black guy in Winnipeg. 9 to the Howie... who above all else desired food over career. Within these hoagies was bound the meats cheeses and skills to win the stanley cup. But they were all of them decieved... For another hoagie was forged. In the land of New Jersey, in the concession stands of the Prudential center, Fatso Brodeur cooked in secret a master hoagie more delicous than all others. And into it he poured all of his lust for his in-laws wives and hatred of Sean Avery.

Just realized Buchnelikov has another year on his KHL contract after this one. Probs doesnt come over till 26/27 season. Bummer.

Thinking seriously... What we're going to need next season is a RHD. We have enough forward prospects knocking on the door at this point. More Tarasenkos would only tie up and logjam us. At D on the other hand... Holl is our only RHD besides Seider rostered for next season. And you should want him scratched most nights anyway. Gus and Ajo can play their off-hand... but we shouldnt want that if we can prevent it. In fact Gus is better off as a regular scratch with Holl anyway. We also do not need a "PP specialist" at this point. Ghost and Gus were our bridge players for that role, but Eddogg has stepped up and taken over PP2 duties as hoped. ASP is an absolute beaut of a prospect, but we need to assume he will require time in GR for adjustment, development, and weight gain. It took a 6'6" stud in Eddogg 2 seasons in GR... it may very well take ASP longer. Therefore, allow me to introduce to you: Nick Perbix. RHD, 27 years old, 6'4" and 200+ lbs, drafted by Yzerman for Tampa in 2017, and has been used only in a 3rd pair role for Tampa. What I like about him: 1. Versatile - big, mobile, reliable, decently talented 2. Fancy stats - check em. They paint a very positive picture. Some of that could just be Tampa though... 3. More to give - this kid got to the NHL slowww. Stayed in college and earned a degree, so this is only his 3rd NHL season. And in those 3 seasons tampa has been forced to play him in a limited capacity behind already established players. He doesnt even play the PK regulary for tampa, but on most (less deep) teams I believe he would absolutely be a PK regular. Further, he's been a Dman who can put up points at every level. His numbers for TBL look modest at first glance, but if you look at his production per minutes played, his offense is actually quite good. He stinks like a player ready for a bigger role. 4. Because of how TBL has deployed him he will be more affordable in UFA. This is a smarter option than throwing $8 mil x 7 years at Chychrun. He can be signed on a short contract until ASP overtakes him. 5. His first name is Nicklaus... so he's basically Swedish (Minny boy) Chiarot - Seider Eddog - Perbix AJo - Gus/Holl This D lineup + only using the top4 for special teams -
Kamloops just reported Emmitt Finnie is headed to GR. The legend of the Findog begins again.
-
I dont get why everyones interested in Chychrun. I have zero desire for another LHD. That said, I hate the caps. Oh Dylan Strome is too shiddy of a skater to play in the hawks top 6? Yeah hes our #1 scorer. Protas, our 4th line grinder, yeah hes our #2 scorer. Yeah we have two random goalies no one has ever heard of... theyre both great. Ovis like 300 years old but hes on pace for like 600 goals this season. Chychrun sucks at actually defending so we picked him up and told him "stop that" and now hes actually really good. Oh PLD? Yeah i guess hes been cancer on 3 different teams now but he tries with us.... lol They cant keep getting away with it

Now that Mrazek is back SY has a chance to do something incredible this offseason... Nyquist, Tatar, Mantha, and Glendening are all UFAs... DO IT. RUN IT BACK DADDY. BOYZ BACK IN TOWN. FUQQ IT! WHY NOT? -
I agree. Detroit is soft and it's something we need to address in UFA. Someone mentioned grabbing Reaves on waivers a while back... that probably wasn't such a terrible idea... This is also why I absolutely think it's time to part ways with "Showtime". Cool having a (former) superstar on the roster, and the boys respect him and blah blah blah, but he is purelyyyyy finesse. Barely a spec of defense or grit to his game. We have offensive talent at this point so he's redundant. He also gave us a second chance this year to do something and we blew it... I just think from both parties perspective its time to part ways. Not to mention... his qutting on Lalonde this year REALLY rubbed me the wrong way. Maybe Newsy really was absolutely regarded... but you dont quit. IDGAF that youre Patrick 50in07 Kane or what. I honestly think SY should have fired Newsy AND traded Kane at that point. But I digress... There's a few players I wouldn't mind replacing Kane and Motte with this year: 1. Sam Bennett - should be target #1 IMHO. Fits our timeline and age group and he's a gritty SOB who can still score. 2. Brad Marchand - he's a dick/rat whatever, but he's a phenomenal player and great person/leader off the ice. His spending time with newly drafted prospects in order to teach them "how to be a bruin" really sold me on his character. 3. Tanner Jeanott - on a reasonable 4th line contract he would add a nice wallup to the lineup. Can have Mottes spot.
-
When it comes to Kane, I just don't understand why he'd stay at this point. Last year we barely missed the playoffs and it seemed like we barelyyyyy got him to come back... now we're farther away from the playoffs. If he wants to stay, great, but at this point I'm happy to give his roster postion to a player who might actually be here in a few years as well. Tarasenko has been a big let down fersure. But he's a cup winning vet with 1 year left. I think we should just keep as a papa (and mentor to buchnelikov) in the lockerroom and avoid the buyout. Holl, kinda the same, I would probably keep as well. Serviceable 6/7 guy. But only to avoid the buyout and keep some stability in the room while we transition. Again, its only 1 more year we gotta put up with him. GUSTAFSSON SHOULD BE PUNTED INTO THE FUQQING SUN. Full buyout ASAP. He's not holding his own or delivering on the offense we specifically signed him for. Release: F Kane, F Smith, F Motte, D Petry, G Lyon, F Hanas, F Tralmarks, F Snively, F Gettinger, D Viro, D Rafferty, G Alexander and G Campbell. Re-sign: F Berggren, F Soderblom, D Johansson, D Lagesson, D Tuomisto Add prospects: F Savage, F Buchnelikov, F Kiiskinen, F Brandsegg-Nygaard, and D Sandin-Pellika Buyout: D Gustafsson Sign UFAs: 2nd pair RHD + various GR depth Kasper - DBoss - Ray DCat - JTC - Berggren Ras - Copp - Tarasenko Soderblom - Shine - Mazur Extras: Danielson, Lombardi, Watson Chiarot - Seider Eddogg - UFA RHD AJo - Holl Extras: Lagesson, ASP Talbot/Mrazek Extras: Cossa/Gylander

Wings have 3 players with expiring rights this summer: Sam Stange, Liam Dower-Nilsson, and Red Savage. Savage - 22 years old. Just captained MSU to a big10 championship. Easy sign IMO. He's probably a forever AHL/ECHL guy... however he's too much of a cultural fit to pass on IMO. Leader, grew up in MI, playing with Augustine... maybe one day he's a Drew Miller, worst case scenario he's a Brian Lashoff type. Liam Dower-Nilsson - just isnt that good unfortunately... only reason to sign IMO would be as a show of good faith to his younger brother Noah... who is the better player IMO... but also not super special. If there's doubts about Noah then just pass entirely I think. Sam Stange - interesting one here. 24 years old now and sorta forgotten about. But he just transfered from Wisconsin to Nebraska-Omaha this year and suddenly he's dominant, and the best player on that team. He's probably going to slip through the cracks and go un-signed, but, sorta like Savage, i'd rather the wings take a flyer on him then sign more Eduards Tralmarks, Alexandre Doucets, and Hunter Johannes's... guys who are clearly just fillers.
-
As others have mentioned... MBN and ASP will likely finish their seasons with the Griffins. But the other two whom seem just as ready are Kiiskinen and Buchnelikov. If they are not signed nowish, or at the very least this summer, I'd be super surprised. I really don't see much of a reason to sign ANY UFAs this summer... maybe some Austin Watson types just for competition, but we dont need any big term comitments IMHO.

Was in Detroit briefly and got last min tix to the Buffalo game off a scalper Sit next to two 10/10 cuties in Peterka jerseys Ask them what is Peterka's role on the team? They don't understand Spend 30 minutes breaking down the difference between powerFs v snipers, top 6 v bottom 6, what a forecheck is, etc... "Idk dude, he's good" Watch game He's a top6 shooter Where were you when you realized puck bunnies destroyed our sport?
