12/6 Trying GDT - Ref Wings @ Maple Refs - 7:00 PM ET
LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
Typical Holland. I called this on Twitter the night DD got hurt. That is all. Goodnight. -
Not even remotely similar. Forget it, teams never trade players to keep from having issues re-signing them due to poyential salary issues anyway. Not ever, in any sport. I'll go back to tying kids shoes and wondering why the whistle blows when the puck goes down the ice. Speaking of which, I wish they'd bring back the glow puck, I can't keep up. Enjoy.

12/4 Red Bread Redemption GDT - Lightning @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET

Whoa! Looks like I'm late to the party! Actually, kinda glad I wasn't at this one. It looks like it was getting hot in here! -
Tick tock. Announcement will be coming....

Zadina?

Yet the spear was ok. I get it, Bert should not have dropped his glove and punched him, maybe if he just swatted him with the glove on, there would have been no suspension, but if Calvert didn't jab his stick into Bert, there would not have been a maul by Larkin or a punch at all by Bertuzzi. IMO, outside of the normal NHL shenanigans that go on at the bench, players hold sticks all the time, even NHL Player Safety said so, but if Calvert would've just left his stick after he could't get it, maybe there would have been a interference call on the bench, but when Calvert speared at Bert, that is when the problem really began. There should have been discipline of some sort for both sides.

12/4 Red Bread Redemption GDT - Lightning @ Red Wings - 7:30 PM ET

Well, 30 other teams learned that they can spear our guys on the bench and not get disciplined, so that precedence has been set by @NHLPlayerSafety. hype... In other HYPE news, I am sure Stevie Y will be at the game tonight, officially watching his Lightning, but in reality watching and evaluating players/coaches futures on HIS team in red. -
Pertaining to the draft, I do not think Green is going anywhere until next season. Howard and Nyquist are most likely the two that will be dealt. It's been said that Pitt, Philly and St. Louis are three very interested teams when it comes to Howard. Nyquist controls his destination, so I'm sure he would only waive his NTC to go to a legit contender, so Nashville could be quite a possibility, BUT they have ZERO prospects that interest me, nor even any recent unsigned draft picks. They'd have to reward me handsomely with TWO 1st's (2019 and 2020) if they wanted to pry Nyquist from me. Then again, Nyquist controls his destination, so if he'd only waive for Nashville, then they'd have the upper hand. Pit didn't have a 1st last draft and they lack a 3rd this draft, it may be hard to get their 1st for this draft, but I'd take the 2020 1st along with Calen Addison for Howard and our 3rd this draft. Nyquist should get us a 1st from any of the contenders that have one to give. Buffalo has potentially THREE 1sts this draft,so they could easily give one up for a player like Nyquist, having so many they could even sweetin the pot up a bit more in order to outbid others plus they are inner-division. Maybe a 1st and Mattias Samuelsson. The rest of your scenario there is for another thread. But real quick, I don't see Helm, Abby nor DK being dealt. Not even when Yzerman takes over. Not unless there is an offer we cannot refuse. But, I am also pretty sure they aren't going to waive their NTC's to go to Ottawa. Here is my what I'd like to see: to PIT : Howard, 2019 3rd to DET : 2020 1st, Calen Addison then to BUF : Gus Nyquist to DET : 2019 1st, Mattias Samuelsson

I love how people think that the users on here are just a bunch of fanboys who don't know anything about the sport except shoot, pass, score. Enough of us have been around long enough to understand a lot of the business workings of the NHL as well. Obviously we aren't in the business (or are we? ) and do not know all the inner workings, but its not beyond reality to understand that some of us understand more about the game from many standpoints, than just shoot, pass, score, raise cup. I truly believe that if given the opportunity, some users on here could actually do the job, and do it better, that numerous former players and coaches, management do now. Some of the brightest hockey (or sports in general) minds have not even been discovered. Most just lack the formal "education" or "background" that teams usually require.

Nope. Read my original post. It has nothing to do with his $925k. That salary will not be there next season, he's an RFA and would get a raise. Trading him and acquiring a prospect on a 3 year ELC takes re-signing Leivo out of the equation, thus leaving more money on the table for others. Nowhere did I say they had to clear cap for THIS season. So, go pwn that. If he would've just read the post, there would have been no question as to what I meant. I said RE-SIGN not clear cap now. Everyone fit under the cap this season. They may have needed a roster spot, but they had a few guys that they could've sent down that didn't have to clear waivers. They traded him because they needed a roster spot and needed the money for next season. He was a victim of the market. He's a great prospect and will get top 6 minutes in Vancouver, plus hell get about $3M a year after thus ELC expires in July. Toronto would not have been able to give him that with the cap crunch they'll have in the summer so they got something for him. He was collateral damage.
-
We'll when you have $23M in cap and about $20M of it will go to Marner and Matthews, factor in other FA's there wouldn't be much left to give him much of anything.
-
Next year dude, next year. They would not have been able to afford to re-sign him with Marner and Matthews taking up mot their space. I did say won't be able to RE-SIGN HIM in my initial post. Did you read it or were you just looking at an opportunity to LOL? Gee....look there are the words RE and SIGN, meaning give him another contract, when this one at $925k is up, after this season, as in July 1, 2019 and not being able to because Marner and Matthews will take up most of the $23M in cap, meaning they had to deal him away instead of not being able to, here it is again, RE-SIGN him.
-
...and the chips begin to fall in Toronto. https://www.tsn.ca/leafs-trade-leivo-to-canucks-for-carcone-1.1220043 Weren't going to be able to re-sign Leivo with no cap. They better win this year.
-
Next announcement? Ken Holland GM. Remember the rumor about after the 1st of year. Holland announcement, Yzerman let out of contract (I'm sure Tampa will be compensated) and Stevie the new GM. I'm not so sure about Blashill being replaced, but I'll take 2 out of 3 from my "source."

We'll get a 1st for Nyquist, somewhere in the 22ish range, he'll drop to us and you'll have your wish!
-
Basically they need to go for it all right now, this year. If its true that you're hearing Marner $10M and Matthews $12M that's all but $1M of their available cap next season. It all or nothing right now. So now is when we should offer them up Nyquist and Glendening to solidify their potential run! I'll take a 1st and Liljegren.
-
Here are current point totals for some of the projected top 10 draft prospects.
-
Marner and Matthews are going to take up about $19M of their available $23M cap space next season. The better win this year or it could be bad. They will lose a lot of supporting actors!

12/1 Assachusetts GDT - Red Wings @ Bruins - 7:00 PM ET
LeftWinger replied to Dabura's topic in General
HYPE-rbole! "If Holland does not step aside tonight, I'm done!" -
Toronto actually does not NEED him, they are doing very well. If they acquired some key pieces that they need (not necessarily blockbuster pieces) it could put them over the top. Which is why I mention Nyquist and Green.
-
They'd probably want an NHL D-Man in return for sure, not sure Hronek would intice them. Too bad Green has that NTC, maybe he'd waive it to go to Toronto? If he would, How does Nyquist, Green 2020 1st sound? Laugh if you must, because I am just throwing stuff out there. Maybe Hronek as well? I guess first we have to see if we can even afford Nylander. What is he looking to get, have we seen that anywhere? Obviously, if we dealt Nyquist and Green (roughly $10M this season) we'd be ok, but moving forward could we afford him on a long term deal?
-
Babs loves him some Nyquist, Helm and Glenny. If they'd take it, I'd do Nyquist, Glenny, Hronek and 2020 1st.
-
He'd be better than Abby up there. Imagine the same with Larkin and Mantha running around. Oh well. It was a missed opportunity, but Holland would rather stick with his loyalty plan.
