Nah, I was logging on here to comment on those three names on the Michigan ballot and I see this thread. Not triggered, but with the couple of coaches being fired thus far, it's mind boggling how Blashill is still ours and IMO it's for no other reason than being loyal to his contract. Which is a dumb reason. Anyhow,I am sure Q won't be unemployed for long. I never liked the guy, especially when he was in St. Louis, so if, on the outside chance he became our coach, I'd have a struggle liking it.

I'm telling you what though, I hope and pray that neither one of Chicago or Pittsburgh don't get any shot at Jack Hughes! I think we're safe with Pit, but with this firing, it looks like Chicago may be a dumpster this season, that would suck if they got #1!

On a quick little election day side note, a couple of choices on the ballot for State Board of Education is Scotty Boman (missing the W) and John Tatar. Funny right? But following that up with one of the choices on the ballot for U of M Regent is John Hudler. Not trying to turn this political by no means, just thought it was super funny seeing those names on my ballot this morning! I don't get triggered anymore. But ya, the loyalty thing has really hurt this team in recent years.

Looking at TSN's top 15 trade bait, local product Alec Martinez is on there. With the turmoil in LA, would he be someone you'd acquire to bolster the D and help speed up the young D? It'd have to be a "Hockey Trade" because he is at $4M per for the next three seasons, so we'd have to dump some salary in exchange.

In all honesty, if Nyquist indeed nets 60 points, there will be plenty of contenders calling us at the TDL for him. I know he has to waive the NTC, but a 60 point player could get us that 1st we covet, and then some!

Here's what I call "Shaking The Tree" and "Being Aggressive." Trade a couple of players by the TDL, in no particular order examples being Ericsson, Nielsen, Nyquist, Howard, Daley, Helm or Glendening for no other purpose but to acquire MANY draft picks and to open up some cap space for the summer. We don't need to trade all of them, but just enough to get a more picks and clear a bit of cap. Win (hopefully) the draft lottery. Draft Jack Hughes. Out of our hands though. Entertain the idea of signing Nyquist and Howard in the off season, even if we've already traded them, but both at less money. Howard may accept, but Nyquist may want, and deserve a raise, in that case, he can sign elsewhere. Re-sign Jensen at a similar rate, or he can go elsewhere. No interest in re-signing Vanek, Witko or Kronwall. Seriously think about buying out Ericsson if we get into a cap crunch. His hit will only be $1.4M for two seasons compared to his $4.25 for the one season. Pursue Karlsson with all our might, minimum $11M per. When Trouba, again, doesn't get a fair offer from Winnipeg, trade our 2020 2nd, 2021 1st and an NHL ready/quality player for him. Immediately sign him to the max extension, minimum $8M per. Top D will be Karlsson - Trouba followed by Cholowski - Green. PLUS How does this look for a top 6? Mantha - Larkin - Zadina AA - Hughes - Rasmussen Hopefully this is similar to what Jimmy D means as well. Honestly, it won't require too many, nor outrageous trades. Trade Daley to a Cup contender, trade Glenny to Toronto, trade Nyquist to a Cup contender. Offer Karlsson the world. The hardest part will be acquiring Trouba, BUT, if Cholowski continues his growth, do we really need to trade for Trouba if we already signed Karlsson? We could always wait for him to become UFA and see if he wants to come home to play.

With our need to sign a G, could we still swing a deal for Faulk? I think it would cause cap hell if we did, he makes $4.8M and we'd be probably trading away 1 or 2 players that aren't even impacting our cap at the moment, AA and Svech. It might put us in a bind to re-sign Mantha, Larkin and bring up Ras along with signing Zadina and Veleno. I fully believe that Ras, Zadina and Veleno should all be on our roster come October. Anyhow, there are no "terms" provided yet with Green's deal. But all in all, its not a bad one, unless it involves a NMC.
