Does anyone recall what could happen after the ruling? Do the Jets have to honor it? Can they trade him? Does he have to honor the ruling? (btw, don't try to press play, it's just a snipit pic from TSN)

Andreas Athanasiou Officially Signed 2 yrs. $3M AAV
LeftWinger replied to SwedeLundin77's topic in General
I am not arguing at all. I am not part of your debate, I just said IMO if he was given top 6 minutes and line mates, along with top PP, he score 30 or more goals. He is a good enough scorer that given the minutes, he would excel. -

I continue to believe, if AA is given consistent top 6 minutes (and line mates) and top PP time, he'll score over 30 goals and net about 50-60 points. 1st PP Line: Zadina (Rasmussen) - Larkin - Mantha AA - Green I know it's a bit different than in my "lines thread" but I think that he may be deadly with that on-timer from the high slot opposite side shift. -

Well I certainly hope AA's stats don't go the way of Franzen after his "serious contract" -

He'll get there. Remember when they all said Datsyuk was not a playoff performer? AA's game will round out. -
I just think, for now and in the near future, there are far better options for him. But hey, you never know! But I still wouldn't want to give up more than Svech and a pick for him. Which means I am not getting him, but I just think anything more, especially the Chicago rumor, is catastrophic overpayment. Especially us being a potential lottery team again.
-
Calgary has not signed Hanfin yet, he also has no Arbitration Rights, so if I offer sheet anyone, it'd be him! But Calgary has $7M in cap space, so they'd match anything I'd offer him! Shea Theodore is another, but again, Vegas has $13M in cap space, so I am sure they aren't worried about someone offering him a contract either.

The only D I give up Mantha and the 2019 1st (Lottery Pick) for is PK Subban. ...anyhow... This is, IMO, why Larkin is going nowhere and will be the next Captain of this team. https://mynhltraderumors.com/nhl-rumors-detroit-red-wings-and-the-nashville-predators/2018/07/15/

No way. That is extreme overpayment. Faulk is a rental (basically) for two years. Unless we become a contender by acquiring him, there is nearly a 0% chance he does not test the UFA market. Even if he did decide to stay on, it would still be too much to give. Svech and a 2020 1st (or a 2019 2nd) is the most I would offer for Faulk. I'm not even dealing AA for a rental. The ONLY way I see Faulk staying for 8 more years after his contract is if we make the playoffs this year, sign Karlsson in July, somehow get a playoff proven goalie and we are in the top 5-10 in offense within those 2 years. There are just too many teams out there that are way better than us that have a ton of cap space to offer him PLUS be on a legit Cup contender. Has anyone heard anymore about Krug being available?
-
Ya, but there is the outside chance they wouldn't match, ONLY because next year we're more than likely still a lottery team, and they'd get a 1st, 2nd and 3rd from us. Meaning they'd get a shot at Jack Hughes for sure, PLUS our high 2nd and 3rd. They just may let him go for that.
-
Makes sense. His mother needs him more than we do. Never, EVER did I think I'd be saying this, but Thank You Chris Chelios for all you've done for our organization! ...and the infamous interview in January 1999. It's 17:00 minutes long, but skip to 10:00 and listen through 11:00ish to hear the "Never play for Detroit, that's how much I hate them..." Low and behold, two months later...

Trade him to us, we'll go max years $6M AAV. Trouba would then re-sign after that and retire a Red Wing. One more for the Michigan Mafia. Once we draft Jack Hughes, with his UofM connection, we'll be flying high with "local" talent. Although he hasn't officially committed yet, odds are he follows his brother. I'd personally rather him be a Spartan, because I can't bring myself to root for Michigan, but I'm sure he wouldn't do that. Wouldn't that be funny though?
-
Yikes, I know you start low and come to a agreement, but I think $4M is an insult to Trouba. IMO not a very good way to treat one of your best D. Just trade him to us already!

I just hoping for a future top 6 of: Mantha - Larkin - Zadina AA - Rasmussen - Berggren If we had that within 3 years, that would be a great top 6 IMO. For the bottom 6, counting Veleno and other kids (Smith and Pope or Svech to round out the 3rd line,) all you'd have left for vets are 1 more year of Nielsen and two more years of Abby. Although there is potential they do re-sign Helm and Glenny after their contracts are up too. -
While I believe Faulk would be the best D on our team, I also believe 100% he would be testing the market in two years, unless we miraculously won a Cup within the next two years and he felt there was a great need to stay and continue the winning. If we were to acquire a player to lead our D it would have been better to target Hamilton, Hanifin or Trouba. Two of those guys are already gone (although Hanifin has not been signed yet) and I don't believe that Trouba is going to be traded. We may as well stick with our guys and promote from within over the next couple of seasons. It would be nice to get a young star like those mentioned above, I'd even be ok with over-paying for one of them, but as good as Faulk would be here, I would NOT overpay for him, and including a player like Larkin PLUS a protentional 1ST OVERALL LOTTERY pick in insane overpayment. That's even overpayment for any of the three I mentioned above. If we were including the 2019 1st, the player going back would have to be either a prospect or a player along the lines of Nyquist or Helm. Depending on the prospect, that still might be overpayment. I'm not even interested in Skinner, he too would more than likely test the market after this season and jump to a contender. Here's what I think would be acceptable (it may not be market, but I'd find it acceptable) for Faulk. At the VERY most: Svech and 2019 2nd. They may not like it, but again, I am not trading AA or a potential Jack Hughes for Faulk. If they wanted to swap Skinner out, I'd trade them Nyquist straight up, maybe throw in a conditional pick, but basically a UFA for a UFA. Again, not giving up AA or a higher prospect/pick for a potential rental.

Here are some recent signings:

Close enough to bring us back to the good old days. But despite my initial reaction to him (of course I was not in a great mental state to begin with,) I am really looking forward to seeing Berggren play.
-
Well if that is the asking price, then its no wonder Holland isn't getting Faulk. That'd be Larkin and a 2019 1st, LOTTERY PICK!!?! They must be nuts. How about Svech and a 2020 1st? I'd like to trade Nyquist, but I don't think anyone will want him until the TDL to be a depth scoring winger for a run at it all.
-
I believe he is done, but will start the season and get about 15 games in before the LTIR. Then comes Zadina.

Sometimes, certain movements are therapeutic for an ailing back. Walking is good for it for sure. But IMO, the way he's carried the team the last couple of seasons, he's allowed to swing a few clubs, even if he has to take some pain meds in order to do so. There's probably no real solution to his back issues, it'll all depend whether or not he wants to pump up on meds before and after every game for another 82. I hope he does, it'd be wonderful to see him hit 1000. I also hope Zandina makes the team. We've talked about the many ways he'll be able to, i believe he will, even with Z playing. What could help is if he laid back a took up the 3rd line center spot and cut his minutes. No saying they have to do so, but if he played 15-20, instead of 20-30, he may make it though another season, or a good chunk of it at least. -
Except for all the inside rumblings of Z being done. I hope he plays, but when the team's inside reporter's say he's more than likely done and team doctors say he isn't cleared to play, there's something to it. Remember when insiders mentioned Datsyuk was retiring?

How exciting would it be for us to read that Holland made an off season trade acquiring that top D we covet?
