I was sitting mouth agape when the draft was going on, like, why the f*** would Team A, send them this great player, PLUS lose another player that is also good? I thought the rules were that if you trade a player to them that counted as their pick from your team. I am still floored by how that draft went...and now look. You would think I was predicting the draft and suggesting those unreasonable deals and picks. What is it you guys say? This is not NHL 18, but for them, yes, yes it was...

Dude, don't tell me about lottery numbers! UGH! a few weeks ago I was driving up to play both the Mega and Powerball, usually when I do, I play the daily 4 for $1. I looked at the clock and it was too late for that, for they already closed the window for that day, my number is 1604.....guess what happened? AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAH!!!!!!!! 1604 was the straight number that evening, if I had only decided to go 20 minutes earlier!!!! ...anyhow, ya, I understand hindsight, but I did say drafts are a crap shoot, not saying they would even have taken those guys instead of who they took, but it was painfully obvious that draft that they were drafting players that were recommended by Andersson and no other reason, they were hoping to hit paydirt with a sleeper out of Europe. That is what I hate, and that is what I hope he doesn't do anymore. He hasn't been, so lets keep it that way! Unless you wanna use the 6th and 7th rounders, like my sleeper pick Liam Kirk. Anynhow, hindsight, I know, look at 1990! No, injury history is injury history, no matter what style, just stay away!

Also, remember in that 2005 2nd round, not only were they one of the teams to pass on Stastny in the 2nd, but they traded UP to get Abby. They must have really loved him! They also passed (as did others) on Letang, Russel, Quick all of which went higher 3rd round. The selected Lofberg (why? you tell me) and could've gotten Bishop instead, IIRC their goaltending situation wasn't in the best shape at that time with Legace and Osgood. In the 4th the selected Ritola (why? You tell me) two spots before Keith Yandle and then 3 spots later went Hjalmarsson. They had 3 5th round picks, you can't argue with Helm (although way overpaid now) but wasted the other two, May and John Ryno (why? You tell me.) The 6th was a bust when they went off the board with Juho Mielonen (why?) and we didn't have a 7th although two players who the Wings were always linked to possibly trading for or signing UFA went then, Stralman and Hornqvist. The draft is a crap shoot and everyone cannot hit the lottery, I just cannot stand drafting a player "just because" of certain circumstances, like, where they are from. That draft killed me because it was painfully obvious Holland and Crew were trying to hit homeruns with sleeper picks and show the NHL that they were geniuses! But, nope, they weren't. Haken Andersson gained a reputation because of a few players he found, but man his "suggested" picks after a while and even now are total busts. We need to draft the right player(s) and the best player(s) forget this trying to get a diamond with a hopeful sleeper pick, it barely works anymore. Just DON'T do it... Stokin the threads up! It is interesting, it was typical Holland trying to score a sleeper in the 1st. THANK GOD he has gotten away from that! HOPEFULLY he stays away form it! DO NOT draft players with injury history either!!!

yes, lets say all of Bouchard, Hughes, Dobson and Wahlstrom are all available at #6, which they all should be, and someone like The Rags REALLY want one of them, the one that Vancouver wants, I'd trade the #6 for #9 and #26 for sure! I'd still be guaranteed one of them, plus I could probably land Bokk and M. Samuelsson for sure then! Chicago also has two picks I'd trade them for if they wanted a player that they thought Vancouver was going to take, they have #8 and #27, I'd still be able to get my guys, If Vancouver wanted to play they'd have to throw in along with the #7, a nice young player like Boeser or Horvat! Gotta pay if you wanna play!

Holland had 11 picks last draft as well, and he has 10 next draft (before trades) so really 2018 is not any more than we've had or will have....so is it suffice to say that the starting last year and ending next year we have 6 drafts?

You quotes two people, I only mentioned Kindl. He was a bust from day 1, but was the #5ish ranked European. I am far from anti-Holland, just skeptical-Holland. But they're the pros, so they'll draft who they think is the best at that spot. I just don't want to chose a player because Michigan/Sweden or anything. I want the best player at #6, we may not get a pick this high in a long time. They know more than we do, but I trust the insiders at TSN, if they say Bouchard or Dobson are the best pick, then I believe they are.

Honestly ALL four of the discussed D fit our team and would help it in many ways. Bouchard - I think is the player that fills most if not all of what we need in a #1/#2 D. Dobson - Also fills our need for a #1/#2 D, but being in the Q tends to exaggerate your stats a bit, but could still be the one we need! Hughes - Fills the need for a speedy O-minded D-man, could be the pick because of Michigan Ties and great "audition" for Blashill at Worlds. Boqvist - Another speedy O-minded D-man, would also fill our need for that. TSN says he is not at the same level as the 3 mentioned above, and does he really have concussion issues? Still likely to be gone before #6 despite TSN and possible concussions, but if there, will Holland try to find another "Lidstrom?" If we could snag Bokk at 30 or 31, that could very well be our perennial 30 goal scorer. Would be AWESOME! Are there any sleepers in the 2nd you guys like? I still like M. Samuelsson and C. Addison, but what about O-guys? With pretty much the prospect rankings set for the draft, who would you guys love to see at 33 and 36? Would love for our two 1st round picks to make the team this fall. Maybe Holland still packages Big Svech and AA to Carolina for a D-man. Excitement is about to really pick up!

I'd prefer the #6 not to be the small D-man. But honestly, if I were "in the know" I wouldn't be working where I currently work, I'd have a job in the NHL. I don't know crap, but I do have favorites I'd like to see become Red Wings...BTW go all the way back to the first post of the thread, the first few names I mentioned to keep an eye on were Hughes and Wilde, someone even came in here and mocked it as this years Tippett and Hague...I've never been anti-Hughes, right now, I am just more pro-Bouchard. A smaller O-minded D in the 2nd round is not a big deal, but like I said, we are in dire need of both a small fast O-minded D and also a larger D who can also move the puck, we would win with ANY of the 4,I just have my order of preference.

You could not be more wrong. I do not hate Holland. But I love this franchise so much I am afraid of what Holland may NOT do in order to make this team great again. He has done stuff, and yes there are things that you do as a GM that is SOP, but I am just tired of the junk this team has turned into because of some of the things Holland did or did not do. Just don't want to become a franchise like Chicago or Pittsburgh where I have to endure a decade of junk....I ain't getting any younger! There is no narrative, I do appreciate when things go well, I do not think he is braindead. Just want this team to do well ALL the time. If don't feel the same way, then something is wrong. Guess I just want to see progress instead of regress. All of my youth, even when they were getting eliminated in the first round all the time, you still saw something growing, I just want to see more of that. He's done great in drafts, trades and trying to acquire UFA's, I guess I am just impatient, like I said, I don't want to go through a decade or more of being bottom feeders.
