Official 2018 Off Season *Rebuild* Thread

Well right now, The Wild are a playoff team, so their pick could be pretty far into the 2nd. Veg's pick should be in the mid 20's, unless they get on a run and take Tampa in the Finals. It may be a big enough jump if they really want someone that is there come that pick. Of course Detroit would really want to have Domi as well. I could imagine a line with Lil Bert and Lil Domi wreaking havoc out there. Also, I do really like AA, but if he continues to be a butt come negotiation time (which BTW he is Arbitration Eligible this season) I wouldn't mind a trade if it returned us Trouba. AA and Svech for Trouba? I am sure Trouba would still want to get paid, but I have a feeling he'd be a little easier to negotiate with as an RFA considering who we are to him. Also, the idea of a Dahlin - Trouba top pairing for the next 20 years sounds exciting! Throw JT in there and then Karlsson next summer? We're in for 5 Cups in a row!
  2. My bad, got too excited. Yes, Forsberg was not "shutdown" to where he wasn't a factor, but I was using the term to describe the fact they were shutdown enough that we beat them in the series. I still maintain my point that the 2002 Avs also beat every team we beat in 2008. There is no way we struggled against them because we were bad, its that they were great. Plus Defending Champs.
  3. This is funny, not sure if y'all serious. 2002 team would have beaten 2008 for sure. You say the 02 team struggled against the Avs, yet 08 blew out everyone. Not many teams had it easy against that 02 Avs team, The DEFENDING Stanley Cup Champion Avs team I meant to say. NOT ONE of the teams we beat in 08 would've beaten that Avs team from 2002. When you're talking head to head, there is no way anyone on the 08 team would skate circles around Fedorov. Fedorov in 2008 would still have been one of our best forwards (except Babcock hated him, so he wouldn't get the icetime.) Plus in toughness Aaron Downey couldn't bet Kocur or Shanny IMO. Plus McCarty of 02 would defeat McCarty of 08. The biggest factor maybe is the G position. Hasek that year blows away Osgood in 2008. He won 41 games in the regular season with 5 SO's, only to better that in 16 wins in the playoffs with 6 SO's. TWO of them against the powerful Avs. Larionov is most definitely an X-factor, he would have dominated Filppula head to head, and if Draper/Maltby of 02 can shutdown Sakic/Forsberg 0f 02, they could absolutely shutdown Z/Datsyuk of 08. Don't read into the fact that Crosby/Malkin couldn't do it in 08, because in 08 Crosby/Malkin wouldn't recognize a Defensive play if it smacked them in the head. Take away the top 2 forwards on each team (Yzerman & Shanahan, Datsyuk & Z) and take a look at what you still have. There is no way that 08 roster beats the 02 roster. No way Franzen even compares to the players left on that 02 roster. Including younger, better versions of Holmstrom, Lidstrom, Draper, Maltby AND McCarty. You mention losing the 1st two games to Vancouver putting a scare into them, well they were equally scared after losing 2 straight to Nashville in 08. Then after sweeping a shadow of itself Avs team that didn't even belong in the playoffs, they lost two out of 6 game series against the Stars. They're both great teams, but given all the factors, 2002 beats 2008 in 7 games!

Green to undergo Cervical Spine Surgery...

I guessing that GRR would want to keep their D corps intact for their playoff run since we are officially out of the running!. I am pretty positive we may be seeing a lot more XO and a little bit of Sulak.

    Drafted First rounders

9 Kozlov had 4 goals that night, 3 against Roy. That was the night that pretty much defined The Russian 5. Kozlov - 4 points Fedorov - 5 points Larionov - 4 points Vladdy and Fetisov a comibined +6 each with a point.

    Bad Fans?

is that a rule I missed? He cannot play in the AHL?
  8. We'd have to shed so much more cap though in order to offer JT a knock his socks off contract, plus re-sign all our RFA's. With the increase and Franzen's relief, we are going to have about $25M available. I don't think that is enough to get JT, plus give our RFA's what they deserve. Even if the kids took a bridge deal worth $3.5M per year each, that take's away $10.5M leaving only $15M to offer JT plus bring up a goalie, re-sign Frk and Bert, re-sign Green maybe and whatever money we have to spend of our 1st round pick to be here, plus call-ups! If we could clear away the cap we need to offer JT($12M probably,) then STILL have that $25M, we'd be in great shape then! But that would mean trading away at least Nyquist or Helm along with Howard and XO. IF we dealt Nyquist/Howard/XO for later round picks, we'd clear up $11.1M. I think we'd be in great shape to offer JT $12M, plus re-sign everyone at fair contracts along with the call-ups and Dahlin ( ) PLUS if we could get Kronnwal to retire? Another $4.75M! That would be over $40M available to do this! We'd have to find a G though. I think one could be had for cheap. I think Halak could be taken for $2M or less, then re-up Coreau to back him up. Wouldn't be the best G's, but it wouldn't be horrible. They can both be on 1 year contracts and play to earn another. as discussed before, this is a franchise defining summer. If we want to be big players in the JT sweeps, we need to trade away cap, even if it's for rock bottom prices. I know they'd be worth more at the deadline, but if we have a legit chance to secure JT for the rest of his career, I say we fire sale those three for what we can get. EXAMPLES: Howard to Buffalo for a 3rd, Nyquist to Dallas for a 4th, XO to Montreal for a 5th all 2019 picks. Convince Kronwall to retire. Draft Dahlin. Sign JT, Halak, Coreau, Green from UFA, re-sign all our RFA's. Recall Cholowski to fill out D. ...this should probably be in a thread titled 2018 Off-Season, but we don't have one.

Official 2018 NHL Amateur Entry Draft Discussion Thread

We just need so much. But I think it all starts on the blueline. If we cannot get Dahlin, we must draft the next best D. Whether that's Boqvist, Bouchard or Hughes is for them to figure out. But Bouchard fits the bill a little more than Hughes or Boqvist I think. Is lil Svech a sure thing, even more so a sure thing to get his brother going? If you need your baby bother to get you going in your job, maybe you need to re-evaluate how you are approaching it. Of course, once "no plan" Blashill is gone, and we get a total new philosophy in here, all our kids may explode. I am very disappointed in how he has played AA since this losing streak has started. Sure, he may be a natural center, but he is more effective in the top 6, not a bottom 6 center. Put him back on the Wing with Frk and Larkin. Also, Nyquist, once again, is proving that he does not belong in our top 6, yet Blashill keeps putting him there along with Helm and Abby. It's frustrating. Anyhow, back on subject, I think we should go D no matter what with our 1st. Vegas' 1st is a toss up, all depends on who's there. M. Samuelsson, McLeod, Veleno. I'd use that pick on any one of those 3 guys. We are getting 2 top 5-6 2nds as well, so we are going to have some very good players to choose from between Vegas' pick, OTT's and ours in the 2nd. Then with THREE 3rds, we are going to have ourselves a very nice draft. As long as Holland stays away from experimental picks in these three rounds. I am fine with long shots or projects between 4-7, much like Liam Kirk. I'd happily bring him here with a 6th or 7th round pick. He is going to be a sleeper whoever selects him.

I'm sure Dan Gilbert would love to own this team. We could change the name of the arena then. I hate the name. A long time ago I suggested Cadillac Centre, that name sounds elegant, ritzy, luxorious...Little Caesars Arena sounds like minimum wage, $5 garbage pizza.

It was only 2 years (not in a row) with those players that we missed the playoffs. A lot of ways, after 1985-86, you could tell that the team was going somewhere. Right now, this team has a number of holes that need to be filled before we can get that warm feeling. A #1 center, a #1 goalie and an entire D corp....

Kronwall does need to retire. He is not our worst D-man, but he is an empty version of himself. Come on Nick, we need your cap!

What was the reason Chicago traded Panera Bread again? Because they though bringing Saad back would be good? That's be like us trading Larkin to bring back Filppula...actually not even, Panera Bread was their best player IMO.

Its ok! Well, Petr must feel silly. I am not so sure this Philly team can maintain their playoff position if they play like this. They don't look too much like a playoff team...
