You have to wonder whom they were scouting from their NHL roster...no old timers I hope!

Good catch! As is stands right now, we'd have the 34th (from OTT/NYR) and 37th pick in the 2nd! If we get a 27-31 pick for Green and then add our own 1-5? Wow! That is great! Let's just say: (#1 if I'm being selfish! )but how about: #3 #29 #34 #37 plus if we could score a 2nd for Nyquist? Nice! -

Y'all forget that in addition to getting Halak, Foote, Dahlin and all those other draft picks, we're also getting Tavares over the summer...rebuild jump start! -

Here's my Detroit mock draft, I am predicting we finish 5th from bottom and of course win lottery! Plus Here are the trades at the deadline: Howard to NYI for Halak & a 4th (25% retained) Green to TPA for Foote & a 1st (50% retained) Nyquist to Nashville for a 2nd Tatar to Winnipeg for a 3rd XO to MTL for a MTL's 5th (they have 3 total 5ths via trades) of course I am just guessing were these teams end up and where we may pick, but hey, its just a mock! 1st Round: 1st - Dahlin - D 31st (from Green trade) - Ryan McLeod - C 2nd Round: 36th - Mattias Samuelsson - D 45th (from Rangers) - Serron Noel - RW 52nd (from Nyquist Trade) - Justus Annunen - G 3rd Round: 68th - Ryan Savage - RW 90th (from Tatar trade) - Krystof Hrabik - C 81st (from Pitt) - Tyler Tucker - D 4th Round: 98th - Niklas Nordgren - RW 104th (from Howard trade (ISLES)) - Curtis Douglas - C 5th Round: 130th (from XO trade (MTL)) - Johnny Gruden - LW 6th Round: 160th - Lukas Wernblom - C 161st (from MTL) - Liam Kirk - LW 7th Round: 191st - Justin Brazeau - RW GET IT DONE KENNY! GET THOSE DRAFT PICKS! -
I like this! Trade both of them. One to NSH and one to PIT. I'll take draft picks in return.
-
No worries, Detroit Red Wings WILL win the Draft Lottery AND Lidstrom will be there to announce the pick! Rasmus Dahlin!
-
Yet, you didn't say North American Twins to begin with...its ok. Maybe we'll put Western Twins next time.
-
Usually when using the word American, it means American, not North American. But I guess in a technical sense, you are right.
-
Mississauga, Ontario, Canada is not quite American, but close enough! I love the Mississauga area! Hence my affection for Steelheads to become Red Wings!

Yay, hype...

I agree. Any of those would make our future brighter! I too do not know enough about Johansen except he was a 1st rounder in 2016, he was not a high 1st though, he was taken 28th overall.

Honestly, if we throw in 50% retained salary, which wouldn't hurt us at all, some of those deals may not be too far fetched. Especially Tampa or Vegas, since they seem to be favorites to win it all right now. Plus Hague was a 2nd round pick, so it's not like we'd be asking for a 1st and 1st round player from them. If that was Vegas' offer, 1st and Hague, and then that was Tampa's counter offer, which would you accept? Hypothetically.... Quick sidenote, Vegas already signed Hague to an ELC, Foote has not been signed as of yet. Doesn't mean one is better than the other, but it could mean that Vegas holds Hague to a higher regard than Tampa does Foote, maybe Tampa throws that deal out there right away and Vegas wants to hold on to Hague. With all the touting of Liljegren last season, imagine if we got that deal, THEN scored the #1 in Dahlin? They may be about the two best Swedish kids in their system right now.

were you even around back then?
-
Oh! But its ok now....I get it. When everybody likes him except me, its bad o make fun of floating for 20 games, then scoring 3 then floating for 20 more...I get it now. I love being right. Thanks!

uh, am I reading my biography of Franzen? I literally said this same exact thing until my fingers bled only to be flamed, torched, negged and laughed at for years! SMH.... You all need to stop with the Franzen hate!

14 points in 5 games? He's not ranked, but I'd be down for a 6h or 7th round gamble. It's not like we've never tried a gamble before...hell, sometimes we gamble with 1st round picks. https://thehockeywriters.com/liam-kirk-uk-prospect-nhl-draft/ He does have a helluva snap shot. This could be the annual Hakan pick, and with 6th or 7th rounders, you never know. He reminds of the type of player that would come in and be a harder worker than most higher round picks because he has more to prove. As long as our first 5-6 picks (in rounds 1-3) shake out good, I am all for this kid getting drafted and making history. -
Qualifying offers[edit] The current team must extend a "qualifying offer" to a restricted free agent to retain negotiating rights to that player. Qualifying offers are for one year contracts. The minimum salary for the qualifying offer depends on the player's prior year salary. Players who earned less than $660,000 in the previous season must be offered 110 percent of last season's salary. Players making up to $1 million must be offered 105 percent. Players making over $1 million must be offered 100 percent. If the qualifying offer is not made, the player becomes an unrestricted free agent. If the player rejects a qualifying offer, he remains a restricted free agent. If the player does not sign before December 1, he is ineligible to play in the NHL for the remainder of the season. The most he can be qualified for is his exact salary from this season and ONLY for 1 year. He CAN reject it and remain an RFA if he wants more money. He COULD sign for less if he would rather have more term, meaning he gets more money. Would you rather have a 1 year contract worth only $4M and then if you s*** the bed, you are screwed after said year, or would you rather sign a 4 year deal worth $12M? Even if you s*** the bed, you are still getting paid for the next three years, and paid handsomely. So, yes he could do so, like in my example. $12M total with a job (somewhere) for the next 4 years, or $4M total and only a 1 year deal, maybe getting no more than $1M the next year on the UFA market. I'd take the guaranteed $12M.

I too believe Green will garner us at least a 1st. He does control where he goes, I am sure he won't waive his ntc to go to a team that might make some noise. I can see Tampa and Vegas getting into a bid up in order to acquire him, and I am pretty sure he'd waive to go to either one. Either way, I expect 2 picks or a 1st and prospect in return. Anything less and Holland gets fleeced. That makes the 1st we get most likely 28-31 range. With that pick, I'd take McCleod as a safe pick or take a long look at Serron Noel, if he's still there, then with our high 2nd, I'd take Samuelsson. -

There is only ONE Owen Tippett. -
It would benefit Jimmy to be traded this year for sure. After this season he has NO, ZERO, NADA, ZILCH of a NTC. At least this TDL he can control where he goes, next year (or over the summer) he could end up in NHL hell.

from Sportsnet. 1. Rasmus Dahlin, D, 6-foot-2, 183 pounds (Frolunda, SHL): After the WJC there is zero doubt who the top draft pick should be in June. Dahlin has everything you want in a defenceman in 2018. Can help turn a franchise around. 2. Andrei Svechnikov, RW, 6-foot-2, 187 pounds (Barrie Colts, OHL): Didn’t get as much ice time at the WJC as many scouts would have liked, but his skills are undeniable. 3. Filip Zadina, RW, 6-foot-1, 192 pounds (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL): Zadina had a great tournament in Buffalo with seven goals and eight points. Was a threat every time he was on the ice. 4. Brady Tkachuk, LW, 6-foot-3, 196 pounds (Boston University, NCAA): Raised his stock immensely for those who doubted him due to a sluggish start at BU. 5. Adam Boqvist, D, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds (Almtuna, Allsvenskan): Loaded with talent. As one NHL scout recently told me “there’s a lot of Karlsson in him.” 6. Noah Dobson, D, 6-foot-3, 179 pounds (Acadie-Bathurst Titan, QMJHL): Scouts go out of their way to make sure they see Dobson. This season’s big riser. 7. Rasmus Kupari, C, 6-foot-1, 183 pounds (Hermes, Mestis Finland): Would have been nice to see more of him at the WJC, but his skill very much keeps him in the top 10 mix. 8. Oliver Wahlstrom, RW, 6-foot-1, 205 pounds (USNDTP): Has outstanding skill and is an effective player with a high hockey IQ. 9. Bode Wilde, D, 6-foot-2, 197 pounds (USNTDP): Big, strong, can move his feet and competes hard. Stands guys up in the neutral and defensive zone and hits hard. Moves pucks quickly to the best option. Has a bomb of a shot. 10. Evan Bouchard, D, 6-foot-2, 193 pounds (London Knights, OHL): A smart player who never panics and has a cannon from the point. With his London Knights in rebuild mode it will be challenging for Bouchard to stand out on a weaker squad, but make no mistake, he is legit. 11. Barrett Hayton, C, 6-foot-1, 185 pounds (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, OHL) 12. Joel Farabee, LW, 6-foot, 164 pounds (USNTDP) 13. Jared McIsaac, D, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL) 14. Ty Smith, D, 5-foot-11, 176 pounds (Spokane Chiefs, WHL) 15. Joe Veleno, C, 6-foot-1, 195 pounds (Drummondville Voltigeurs) 16. Quinn Hughes, D, 5-foot-10, 174 pounds (U of Michigan, NCAA) 17. Jet Woo, D, 5-foot-11, 205 pounds (Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL) 18. Grigori Denisenko, LW, 5-foot-11, 175 pounds (Yaroslavl, MHL) 19. Jesperi Kotkaniemi, C, 6-foot-2, 190 pounds (Assat, Liiga) 20. Benoit-Olivier Groulx, C, 6-foot-1, 192 pounds (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL) 21. Isac Lundestrom, C/LW, 6-foot-1, 185 pounds (Lulea, SHL) 22. Rasmus Sandin, D, 5 foot-11, 190 pounds (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds, OHL) 23. Jack McBain, C, 6-foot-3, 196 pounds (Toronto Junior Canadiens, OJHL) 24. Alexander Khovanov, C, 5-foot-11, 179 pounds (Moncton Wildcats, QMJHL) 25. Ryan McLeod, C, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds (Mississauga Steelheads, OHL) 26. Serron Noel, RW, 6-foot-5, 201 pounds (Oshawa Generals, OHL) 27. Ryan Merkley, D, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds (Guelph Storm, OHL) 28. Jacob Olofsson, C, 6-foot-1, 192 pounds (Timra, Allsvenskan) 29. Calen Addison, D, 5-foot-10, 179 pounds (Lethbridge Hurricanes, WHL) 30. Mattias Samuelsson, D, 6-foot-4, 217 pounds (USNTDP) 31. Akil Thomas, C, 5-foot-11, 170 pounds (Niagara Ice Dogs, OHL) Lets say we get a #23-31 for Green. Who do you take? I like Samuelsson, but he just may be there early 2nd if we finish in the bottom 7.
