Losers Red Wings Maybe Michael Rasmussen ends up becoming the dream power forward the Red Wings are hoping he’ll be after selecting him with the No. 9 overall pick. But there are massive red flags in Rasmussen’s production at the junior level that beg questions about picking him in the top 10 with guys like Gabriel Vilardi and Owen Tippett still on the board. Rasmussen recorded 55 points in 50 games with the WHL’s Tri-City Americans, but 29 of his points came on the power play. Just 24 of his points came at even strength, and even fewer at 5-on-5, which isn’t a good sign for his ability to translate production to the NHL level. There’s a ton to like about Rasmussen’s game as a 6’6 forward who’s comfortable with the puck, solid defensively, and knows how to use his size to win puck battles. Bob McKenzie ranked him No. 9 in the class, so it’s not like it’s a pick totally out of left field. But it’s hard to get over the lack of even strength production in the WHL from a top-10 pick, particularly given the other talent still available.

Now you know Holland would never trade a loyal player. But I'm sure Holland would still bypass him even if they swapped. Two years now, he has shown he has no idea... Maybe someone could Photoshop Holland's head on the infamous kathy Griffin photo...now thatd be funny. Id make that my avatar.

None of you are 100% wrong. You guys railed me up and down about listening to scouts and not drawing my own conclusions when it came to Pettersson because they watch and know more. Well guess what, listen to the scouts, none of them wouldve taken Rasputen at #9. When all analysts were saying that with Tippett and Vilardi on the board Holland had a no brainer choice. Holland can't even get that right. And what were the next two picks? The no brainer. Ken Holland made Florida and LA much better yesterday. f*** you Holland.

Bypassed a top line sniper that shoots and scores in every situation for Rumplestilskin who is absolutely horrible 5v5. I am not behind this pick at all. Not at #9 for sure. This reeks of drafting Primeau over Jagr. Not that Tippett will be jagr, but it's the same stupidity. I have no doubt that if available, Holland will pass on Hague.

Yes, but Tippett scores in all situations, not just pp. It doesn't matter now, Holland made a huge mistake, I honestly don't know how he still has a job. Picks 1-11 we made the worst choice. 10 teams got better, and we got a player that may or may not make it. Tippett and Vilardi will be nhl regulars within 2 seasons. We won't see Rasputen until 2025 and maybe he'll be a #2C, maybe.

No meltdown, just 10-15 years of "I told you so" and more fodder to throw at Holland. Tippett will be winning trophies and Rasputen will be struggling to find his game in the AHL for 5 years. This is Sheahan 2.0, with less talent. If this top 10 pick proved anything, it's Holland cant handle the heat. I don't trust him with a top 3, hopefully after this season I won't have to. #fireholland

Here's the thing...we need pure scoring, not just pp scoring. There was one guy that all the analysts were calling a pure scorer, sniper, best goal scorer in the draft...and he was staring right at Holland when he picked...and Holland passed instead of shot. Oh, what couldve been with Tippett. He'll get the Calder in his rookie season, and challenge for the goal scoring lead, watch.
