A little of both. Nyquist got a reward contract and hasn't lived anywhere up to it yet. Ott earns his contract. Nyquist does not. Helm wasn't, Kronwall isn't and neither is Ericsson, Abby nor Howard. But the Red Wings are by far not the only team overpaying mediocrity.
-
He sure plays keys minutes and situations. I for sure like Ott more than the guys you mentioned.
-
Ott will always have a spot on the roster. He will b re-signed come July. He plays too may important roles in Blashill's plan.
-
I just hope he gets a shot at it.
-
Did he have drug problems?
-
Smith is average and is taking up a roster spot. I certainly hope that he does not get re-signed, but after the last few off season's I have no reason to think he won't. Holland just keeps these guys on for too long. Not that they're horrible, but we have better replacements in the organization. I honestly think we would've have been fine without re-signing Helm or Miller...
-
Just change the color and name them Blue Knights.
-
Nosek has already been sent down to help clear cap space for Howard. I can see Bertuzzi going down for AA. But when Helm gets back, we will have another traffic jam. Sheahan stays in, I hope Miller gets waived before Mantha gets booted.
-
No, but almost 100% positive, he wouldn't even consider trading either of them...
-
So then, with AA coming back, who goes down? I think Mantha should never see GR again. I'm sure Bertuzzi will go back, but I also think Miller should be waived. I like him, but when Helm returns, there will be too many forwards. Mantha and AA must stay....but Holland.

Lashoff has played 2 games over Sproul. I get that he may be a defensive defenseman, but he shouldn't be in at the expense of Sproul. But since we have 2 pretty useless D men making over $4M a year in Kronwall and Ericsson, there is no way that either of them would sit, outside of injury, because they can't have $4M being a healthy scratch. Although, talent wise, we are better with Sproul, XO and, yes, Lashoff playing in place of the other two. IMO, this team needs to be without the Swedish pylons and Smith before next season starts. But....Holland.
-
The thing is, Chychrun would be just another suppressed youngster. He wouldn't be here now, and with the Swedish pylons still signed for years, he wouldn't be here anytime soon.
-
Ugh...no use in watching then. We will not make it anywhere near the playoffs while erection and Kringewall are playing.
-
Haven't been watching....same lineup?
-
Not bad for 9 years old!
-
Oh how I wish life was that easy to just have to worry about a hockey team and the challenges of coaching.
-
Ya, that was my first reply as well!

I think Holland will just go with his current D, if it works, then the streak lives. If it fails, he possibly gets a lottery pick. Either way, I'm willing to bet he is waiting and he will throw the wallet at Shattenkirk if he makes it to ufa. If not, then Fowler is a ufa in 18...if he makes it to July that year. If we could just rid ourselves of the two pylons from Sweden, we could let the kids play and grow, then adding a ufa would make sense. Keeping the Swedish two will only make signing someone better that much harder.

It looks like the topic has wandered from a GDT,
-
I agree, gives the kid a contract and let him try to prove himself and possibly make it to Detroit. Why waste yet another draft pick and let him go elsewhere? A 2-way contract to play in GR wouldn't cost more than league minimum I'm sure. He'll have his 3-4 years of waiver exemptions. At least keep this beast in the organization and we can watch him vash heads in GR for a while.
-
We need to get Stanley and Scotty to come here!
-
Problem is, he holds on to vets too long. Re-signs them for too long, then we have no room for the kids to play. IMO, he should not re-sign anyone for more than 3 yrs at a time.
-
Oops it posted twice...
-
Your best D was a healthy scratch last night That being said, I'd still take a short at Fowler this season, but not at what the asking price was early on. If they'd swap for Nyquist, I'm in. But..... Anyhow maybe take a run a Shattenkirk come July. Other than that, we need to dump the Swedish twins and let XO and Sproul play 100% and just hope they keep getting better.

I guess it's speculation since I don't know fact, but saying Todd wasn't on them is like saying Pudge wasn't either...somehow they both got emmensely smaller and worse after an incident and (in pudges case) rule changes. They both were half the athletes they used to be. Of course, they weren't the only ones in their respective sports, so it's not like they were bad people, they were doing what they were allowed to.
