In the off-season, my top trade piece is Veleno. It's just over in Detroit for him. yet another 2018 Holland draft failure. He had FOUR picks in the top 36 and it was utter garbage. Looking back, in a draft where everybody and their brother knew Detroit needed D, Holland drafted 3 forwards then McIsaac at 36. Utter failure. Zadina over Hughes, Bouchard, Dobson Veleno over Samuelsson Berggren, if he ever gets to play, MIGHT be ok. Maybe he'll get us a D upgrade in trade. Then McIsaac and 2 more consecutive D. Drafts are always a hindsight topic, but when they were in desperate need of D, Holland screwed that entire draft. Should've went D with BOTH 1st round picks. Whether it was Hughes or Bouchard and then Samuelsson with the 30th. I will never forgive Holland.

Not liking the 2nd. Wow! Jeff Skinner 1000 games and ZERO playoff games?

Or Osgood? He started his rookie season at 21, appeared in 41 games and was 23-8. I think if Cossa turns out to be another Osgood, we'll be very happy. Let The Coss-good loose!

At least it's not Edvinsson sitting...speaking of, why has Sprong been a healthy scratch for all this time now?

Vasilevskiy was 20 when he played in the NHL for 16 games, then when he was 21, he played 24 games, then there was no looking back, the next season he played 50. Cossa is 21 now, once this playoff run is over, it's time for him to get a serious look next pre-season. Go with Lyon and Cossa. That is the way of the future right there. Then in 2 seasons, Cossa will be the starter. Next season is time. I'm over all the drafting high and waiting 4 years over and over again. Cossa is ready to show us what he's got. Mazur, Johansson, these kids are close, bring them up starting next season.

Buy him out over the summer, unless you can get a 3rd back for him.

Blashill was wonderful with the young kids too, plus won a ship with them...that didn't work out. Also, we no longer need "players coaches." We need mean, kick your ass coaches. Not saying Fedorov is mean, but I don't think he is a "nice guy" coach, like Lalonde.

I'm pretty much just saying that if dealing this years 1st and next years 1st (with other parts of course) would upgrade the D with maybe the likes of Chychrun and Andersson for example then you do it. If you want a veteran D as well, then make a deal for someone like Fowler. I'm at the point where the only D I wanna see come back are Walman and Seider. Add the mentioned three to those 2 and promote within? Expensive yes, but very doable. Or if you wanted to skip 32 year old Fowler and throw a ton of money at Hanifin. I realize this is a NHL EASports scenario of acquiring this much talent, but something drastic definitely needs to be done. The G idea and forward idea are very doable. Trading two 1sts is expensive, but it is probably necessary to do at this point in the rebuild. We can't keep drafting high and waiting 3 or 4 years each time we do. It's Time to trade for some talent.

LEFTYplan, bottom line. Acquire TWO top 6 defensemen (under 30) via trade at the draft. 1st round picks, prospects in play. Acquire a top 6 forward talent via trade or UFA. LEGIT top 6 league wide. Cut lose all UFA'S not named Kane or Fischer. Get Perron on the staff, and get Fedorov on the coaching staff, he IS available. Trade Fabbri, Holl, Chiarot, even Veleno and Rasmussen if need be. Buyout Petry and Husso. Or just waive them come October and deal with the salary implications if not claimed. Fill the rest of the roster from GR. Edvinsson, Cossa, Mazur, Johansson.

It's over. Blow this team up come summer. Fire all coaches. I'm done for the season.

No Kane?

This is true. But its time to start dealing away draft picks for talent. Young talent. Trade the above mentioned, plus Veleno, Maatta, Berggren, and start fresh. Should've dealt Sprong, Ghost, Holl at deadline for picks. Yzerman kept them together as a team and look how they've repaid him. I'd package a 1st, more picks and a player at the draft for Chychrun and the same for Fowler. The only D I want returning are Seider, Walman, Edvinsson. Chiarot, Holl, Maata will get you a few mid-level draft picks that can be packaged. Let Ghost walk, let Sprong walk. Offer Perron a coaching job. Buyout Petry and Husso. Go with Lyon/Cossa next season. Ugh this is too much. I'll go to the off-season thread.

I talked a lot about him when he wasn't qualified. Yzerman had just signed two other former Hawks that weren't signed in prior years. I surely thought he'd do the same for a 3rd overall pick. But I just figured he knows more than I do. Damn I wish he would've signed him. Unless the Yzerplan included buying out 2 players this summer and trading away and acquiring better players, then i am getting very skeptical of this mysterious plan. 7 years is far too long. I want to see Chychrun and Fowler here via trade. I don't care of it costs 1st rounders. It's time to upgrade via trade. This drafting and waiting and filling the roster with middling UFA's has gotten old.

Remember when Dylan Strome wasn't qualified by Chicago in 22' and he became a UFA? Detroit could've signed him. But they chose not to. Even when they were in dire need of a young Center that would line up with our rebuild timeline. 125 points in 152 games sure sounds good to have. Oh, andhe could be centering Kane and Debrincat.
