I actually thought the speed of both AA and Helm would be deadly...go figure! -

I'm most intrigued by the Anaheim scenario. Very interesting the rule on the NMC. I guess once you waive it, the acquiring team can choose not to honor it after its waived. Very, very interesting. Not keen on trading Saarijarvi so soon in the Winnipeg scenario. I'm sure someone else could be included in that...also I'm 99% sure Holland will not trade Abdelkader. I'm scared of the Shattenkirk scenario, only because there's no way to guarantee he'd be here for more than this season. Of the three, I'd welcome the Anaheim trade first. Fowler and bieska would help this D. The only thing is, it would knock Smith back to #7 and require us to waive all three kids. Not unless we could swing both the Anaheim AND Winnipeg deals! Just replace Saarijarvi with XO or Sproul and maybe Abdelkader with Sheahan and Pulkkinen (unless they want Helm...lol j/k) So, I go with the Anaheim scenario: to ANAHEIM: Nyquist, Ericsson, Holmstrom, 3rd Round pick To DETROIT: Fowler, Bieska(not to honor NMC to leave exposed to draft) Then the Winnipeg trade: to Winnipeg : Smith, Pulkkinen, Sheahan, XO to Detroit : Trouba (re-sign 8 yrs, $4M aav) My roster: Tatar- Nielsen- Vanek Zetterberg- Larkin- Abdelkader Jurco - AA- Helm Miller - Glendening- Ott Frk DD - Trouba Fowler- Green Kronwall- Marchenko Bieska Even with all this, I still have $2.2M in cap space. Before Howard is dealt with! Get it done Kenny! -

Wasn't aware that talking about an off season signing in the off season thread was derailing...just wanted to be told again how great off deal we got and shown the advanced stats that prove it. You're right, it's all under the bridge anyhow, but it sure would've been nice to not overpay low level talent or at least pay him market value. Oh well... Now we see who we lose to waivers soon. Everyday it gets closer to camp, the less confidence in have that Holland is going to acquire a defender and thin out his forward corps a bit. -

I'm just waiting for someone to explain to us that even if he only got $2.8M it would be a great deal. Just seems to me that even if he got drew miller money, he'd still be overpaid compared to players with similar advanced stats. Oh well, Holland is the genius, not any of us. Of course that makes miller an ott and Glendening also grossly overpaid. Let's just hope helm scores 25 goals this year amongst 50 points. -

Well, Mantha and AA should both be here, but they will both be in GR. Why? Miller, Helm and Holland's refusal to trade roster players for a D upgrade. It doesn't matter that Vanek was signed. You don't sign miller, you don't sign helm, you trade nyquist and Pulk for a D. Tatar - Nielson - Vanek Z - Larkin - Abdelkader Jurco - AA - Mantha Sheahan - Glendening - Ott Frk You change the toughness and scoring of your team, and you still have tins of cap space for trade deadline. -

Don't know how to read it, but the blocks look very similar. Helm should be making no more than $700K. Good job kenny. -

If Blashill puts Helm on the 2nd and Vanek on the 3rd, he needs to be fired. No way is Helm top 6 material...in no league. -

Probably too much, maybe the reason he's not signed. Of course only Holland would give him way too much more than he's worth. -

I'm sure he'd figure out some one to send to waivers to make room. Pulkinnen will be on LTIR and he'd probably just waive Jurco. Hey, can't do anything about it now, but I'd still like to see the side by side comparison in order to know that we got a good deal. First Jarnkrok, now Gagner, Helm's salary, even if it was only $3M has to be justified by corsi and analytics and advanced something or other...right? -

Just a random thoughts I find it both humorus and troubling that KFQ is still unsigned. Troubling because you know Holland is kicking the tires behind closed doors on him...he is. You know it to be true. Also interesting that Russell is yet to be signed. Out pricing himself? If we could drop E, I'd give him E's money. Would it be worth trying to make a trade for Ristolainen, Rider or Lindholm instead of Trouba? -

Boy, Columbus got a hell of a deal on Gagner. Would someone like to put up some of those analytics comparing him and Helm...the eye test on hockey-reference.com tells me they have very similar production, But one of them makes $3.2M more than the other...and is 3 years older. -

Here's my blueadams lines: Tatar - Nielson - Vanek Zetterberg - Larkin - Abdelkader Nyquist - Helm - Sheahan Miller - Glendening - Ott I'd love to have Jurco there, but he's not a 4th liner, maybe swap Sheahan with miller and put Jurco on Helm's wing. DD - Smith Kronwall - Green XO - Marchenko E That would be the way I'd like the D, but I know E will be in, so XO will be #7. -

Neither was Downey, nor McCarty nor Drake. We need Otter to play the same role as they did. Protect, hit, disrupt score the occasional goal. I always think back to Downey kicking Laperriere's ass after he clocked Lidstrom. If Z and Larkin et.al are given that type of protection, they may not drop off in production as much, if at all. All I'm saying is, he's every bit McCarty was in 08 and drake. If he is used the same way, he is going to surprise a lot of fans. I still wish we had room for Mantha, but maybe Holland is thinking the same thing about his Downey signing. I hope that is the reason behind his signing and I hope he is used in the same way, 50-60 games at least is what I'm hoping. -

I'm willing to give up Nyquist, Pulkkinen or Jurco in a deal, but no to AA, Larkin and Mantha. ONLY if a legit #1 was coming back would I even entertain the idea of trading Mantha. So if we aren't dealing any of the first three I mentioned, then role with what we got...I only wish E would be #7 though. Btw, we haven't won a Cup without a tough guy in the lineup, Ott is going to be a hit, if he gets used properly and doesn't ride the pine for 60 games. -

Glendening was here for the year anyhow, the only odd part is that he didn't wait until closer to the end of the season to resign him. Helm was atrocious. Holland has lost his moxy. But remember, his winninf teams were all built bY someone else. -

Like I said, if it takes adding Mantha in a trade in order to secure a #1 guy, do it. No to AA, no to Larkin. If all we can get is a #2#3 guy, no to Mantha. I roll with: DD - Smith Kronwall -Green XO - Marchenko E Screw it. -

It's a catch 22. You don't want to trade a prospect with potential but you need to trade someone to get that piece you need. Jarnkrok was our #1 prospect, he got traded, do we miss him? If we're getting a legit #1 guy, if Mantha needs to be included....damn, but it has to be done. But if it's a #2/#3 guy, no. I'd love to see an upgrade, but if not, play the right guys. -
Would've been nice to have...all eyes on Trouba now to re-sign or be dealt.

Well, don't you realize that soon playoff Ericsson is going to show up, so we can't get rid of him and then have him show up for some other team... -
I would think the former, but right away people threw Modano and hatcher in there, so I guess it's both...

Right now, I would give all of Nyquist, Jurco, Pulkkinen, Sproul, pick for a legit top defenseman if that's what it would take. -

https://twitter.com/RedWingsFeed/status/759395402214891520 Holland will never dump E to keep a 2nd kid on D. Don't know where this Blogger gets that idea from. XO will be #7, Jensen and Sproul will be waived. That's typical Holland. Plus he'll never trade Nyquist or Tatar or his 1st round pick. We've all been bamboozled again this summer... -

Yep, Holland wants to trade the likes of extra pkayers that are going to sit in the press box and nobody wants them. He wouldn't ever trade away precious nyquist or Tatar or Ericsson or Helm. -

The OG Don was Salming. He got "traded" to Detroit to lay the ground work and open the way for the rest...
