Man, it'd be tough to sacrifice Mantha that way, is trouba really supposed to be that good? I know they'd want a young prospect, but I'd almost rather offer both nyquist and tatar...what about nyquist and Sheahan. I know I'm probably over valuing Mantha, but it'd be tough to let him go. But I most definitely agree, if it came down to it, I'd let Mantha go before AA.

I think in 2 yrs, $5M will be a bargain for a #2-#3 defender. He's not a #1 in the nhl, but he is a top guy here. Kenny must get a #1 guy though. I'm not sure if we have a #1 in our system, maybe we will have sacrifice someone to get him...just not Larkin or AA.

I guess that's part of the reason not to be too worried about Sproul and Jensen. I hate losing kids for free, but if they were going to be something, they'd either already be here or had significant time up here. Holland can pull s*** like that, but he needs balls. "You wanna be a Wing? Here's what your value is." But instead he overpays and over extends mediocre players and over values them.

The reality is don't overpay mediocre players, not even by as little as $500K. Making thE playoff 25 in a row results in less than top tier players...but don't overpay them. That's the problem.

Ok, with LTIR it'll bring us back under the cap, but we'll still be the top paid team in the nhl. We have got to dump Jimmy and E somehow. This cap just cannot be justified. We are nowhere near cup sniffers let alone contenders, let alone favorites, but our cap puts us right up there with champions and favorites. Buy Jimmy out now. You'll have 6 years at a cap hit of around $1.6M. At least we'll have all that savings. Dammit Kenny, someone will take him, just stop over valuing him and accept a 7th or future considerations! Or hell, just retain $1.5M of his salary for only the 3 years left and you won't have to give him buyout money. We will need that cap space this season for sure!

Could you imagine 4 scoring lines? Sheesh, no one could match all 4 lines! It would also keep minutes down on older players. Imagine: Zetterberg-Larkin-Abby Tatar-Nielsen-Vanek JURCO-AA-MANTHA Nyquist-Helm-Sheahan No one knows who's #1 or #12.... Miller/Glenny/Ott would get in for injuries or slumping players that need a rest.

I think Nielsen will still officially be a 2nd line guy, but will be out there for a ton of "checking" responsibility. I believe Larkin will be the #1 center by name, but I definitely see Nielsen being a big upgrade to the top 6. Vanek as well.

Nielsen and Vanek are here to play. They are legit top 6 guys who can and will make our team better and harder to beat. Hopefully when Mrazek gets his contract he finds a way to rekindle that vezina couple of months. If Holland manages to upgrade our D, this team will be better than last year. I'd also love to see AA and Mantha play, but they aren't 4th liners and there really isn't any room in the top 9 for them bArring a trade of one or two forwards from the nhl roster...

Helm at $3M, bottom 6, fine. What he got, the way he was attempted to be used last season, waste. Can't do anything about the money now, but if he gets top 6 minutes, I cannot guarantee I won't flip out. But, we'll see what happens. For the better of the team, I hope he has a career year!

I'm just saying as annoying it is to read he sucks, which isn't true, he is in the nhl, it's just as untrue and ridiculous to have to read how great he is, which isn't true. Oh man, if he got $1M less, this wouldn't even be an issue. Now that is true! This also pretty much guarantees that he is here for life! He'll be what, around 31 after this deal? He may sign another 4-5 years maybe 6 after this one and then call it. I like this deal. I hope he stays healthy and continues to get better, this will be a steal in 3 years.

I apologize for my constant helm hate every chance I get, but as annoying as that can be, it's just as annoying when also 8n every thread we have to read how helm is great for this team and is the best 3rd line center in the world. He simply is not. I admit, he is also not the worst thing for this team either. I don't like him, some love him. But if I'm to quit, I'd like to also stop seeing the polar opposite. He's a bottoman 6 player who is overpaid, for too long and will probably be used inappropriately.
