Man, it'd be tough to sacrifice Mantha that way, is trouba really supposed to be that good? I know they'd want a young prospect, but I'd almost rather offer both nyquist and tatar...what about nyquist and Sheahan. I know I'm probably over valuing Mantha, but it'd be tough to let him go. But I most definitely agree, if it came down to it, I'd let Mantha go before AA.

I think in 2 yrs, $5M will be a bargain for a #2-#3 defender. He's not a #1 in the nhl, but he is a top guy here. Kenny must get a #1 guy though. I'm not sure if we have a #1 in our system, maybe we will have sacrifice someone to get him...just not Larkin or AA.

I guess that's part of the reason not to be too worried about Sproul and Jensen. I hate losing kids for free, but if they were going to be something, they'd either already be here or had significant time up here. I know I like to pretend I know s***, I know some, but if I really knew, I wouldn't be stuck in my crappy job the last 26 years, I'd be working for a team. But anyway, my point is, I do trust the kid development and trust that they know whether or not someone has nhl potential. We really don't miss any kid he's traded or lost to waivers. I just hate some of the contracts he gives to his UFA'S. I hope he has a d trade in the works, but if not were just going to have to hold on tight. The reality is don't overpay mediocre players, not even by as little as $500K. Making thE playoff 25 in a row results in less than top tier players...but don't overpay them. That's the problem.

Ok, with LTIR it'll bring us back under the cap, but we'll still be the top paid team in the nhl. We have got to dump Jimmy and E somehow. This cap just cannot be justified. We are nowhere near cup sniffers let alone contenders, let alone favorites, but our cap puts us right up there with champions and favorites. Buy Jimmy out now. You'll have 6 years at a cap hit of around $1.6M. At least we'll have all that savings. Dammit Kenny, someone will take him, just stop over valuing him and accept a 7th or future considerations! Or hell, just retain $1.5M of his salary for only the 3 years left and you won't have to give him buyout money. We will need that cap space this season for sure!
