As was Fedorov. Lest we mention again, a Hart AND Selke in the same year. Which, btw, was a year that featured all of Gretzky, Lemieux and Messier. If he played D for an entire year, no doubt in hell he'd win a Norris. The ONLY reason his number may not get retired is a personal vendetta. BTW, Gretzky Lemieux and Messier were not ever considered a Hart AND Selke winner, let alone the same year they were winning Hart trophies.

I bring it up in this topic. It was a waste of a roster spot and $4M. For 5 years! Jurco, Pulkkinen, Mantha, AA...they all deserve that roster spot over helm...Miller and ott are pegged for 4th line work, helm snatched valuable 3rd line minutes from more deserving players. Ok, if miller or ott werror not signed, then stick helm on the 4th, but definitely not at $4M. Waste of a 3rd line spot and waaaaaaY overpaid as a 4th liner. He's nothing but a 4th liner, period. PK guy sure, but 4th line pkers don't get $4M, they get $2M. If he's on the 3rd line, he's taking up a spot one of the 4 kids I mentioned.

Jurco is absolutely valuable to this team....but Helm, Miller, Ott...that sums up Holland right there.

They want to retire the #32, but not sure who to honor, The Grim Reaper or Chevy...

I do that. Nyquist, Pulkkinen and Oullett. For who? What will that get us? Most definitely Fowler, but Trouba, Shattenkirk?

Fedorov won a Hart AND Selke the same year as both the best offensive and defensive player in the nhl...who the f*** does that? Sergei Fedorov that's who! Raise it up! Let's see Crosby do that, let's see Ovi do that, let's see Kane or McNHL do that! Not even the great Lidstrom could muster tgat feat!

Fedorov did play pretty much his entire career in Detroit. Plus he was arguably our best player during his time here. There should be no debate, ilitch needs to do this for the fans. He was, perhaps, the greatest Russian player of all time. I give him top 10 nhl player as well.

It'll be funny if Coreau is claimed off waivers. at Holland for his "loyalty" to players that were never that good to begin with! I don't understand how he can just cast aside young players with a better upside for the likes of players like helm, miller, Ericsson, howard. The same crap we've lost with the last 4-8 years...oh well!

If it's anyone, it's going to be Fowler. It is well known that Holland wants him. More than one hockey insider has said that's his target. Things could change of course... I still think it'll cost us a fwd, D and prospect. It'd be nice if we could get away with a fwd and prospect D. Of course that would make Smith #7 again.

You can never have enough D that you are going to expose to waivers in the future...

We lost in 07 because we couldn't score on the pp. We lost game 5 due to not scoring on a couple of 5 ok not 3's. We lost 09 by one goal in game 7. Feds could've made a difference in both playoff years. Especially on the pp.

It doesn't matter who plays the best in pre-season. Last pre-season Nick Jensen was the best dman during every game he played. Where'd that get him? Yep, and it'll get him waived this year...

What about Tatar - Nielsen - Vanek Zetterberg - Larkin - Abby Nyquist - Helm - Sheahan Miller - Glendening - Ott There's just no room for Mantha and/or AA, sadly. In trying to not dump on Helm too much, if Miller and Ott were not signed you could have a bottom 6 of: Nyquist - AA - Mantha Sheahan - Glendening - Helm.

can't give $5M to both, don't have the capspace. We'd be a huge pickle if they both got $5M+... we'd be the worst team with nearly the highest payroll in the NHL.

Ya, you're right, I meant that if he got traded back here instead of Columbus he would've most definitely helped us get past Anaheim that year. If he had been acquired in 08, like he almost was, we may have been looking at back to back for sure in 08 09. My point was, if he got dealt here in 06 instead of Columbus, we may have been looking at 3 in a row, at least 3 Cup finals in a row. IMO.

Now, see, I would protect Z, just becuase I can protect 7 fwds. Disregarding my dislike of Helm, I would think he may be safe with that long of deal, plus nearly $4M for a bottom 6'er. I absolutely would be livid if we lost Sheahan to expansion. On, D, with the current D we have, I chose DD, Marchy and XO. I still don't think someone would chose a broken down Kronwall, especially with younger, more prospective D-men available. If I'm looking at Detroit and I see Kronwall, Ericsson, Green, Sproul, Jensen available, I'm taking Sproul. Not unless they would look for more leadership qyualities, but still, I'd much rather take a young player with tons of potential over a half crippled Kronwall. I chose XO because he has the most NHL experience of the 3 kids in GR. I really agree that of the players being left exposed, Jurco, Pulkkinen or Sproul may be the ones most apt to be picked. I think we're stuck with Howard and he will have to be bought out next summer, Vegas will not pick him with the prospective talent that may be available at G. Of course all this will change if Holland gets D. Lets say he trades Nyquist or Tatar for a D-man, then of course that D man will be protected and XO is not, and then we can put Helm on the protected list as the 7th fwd. I'd love for Jurco to bust out this season and earn a protection, but with the plethora of fwds, he might see 25 games.

Without Fedorov, our 3 Cups are more difficult to win, PLUS when if he got traded here instead of Columbus, we would've beaten San Jose in 07. He was still a scoring threat on 09 as well, we may have been looking at 3 Cups in a row, it would have been at least 3 Cup finals in a row. #91's rightful place is next in line to #5

Smith is a ufa, no need to waste a protect on him. He won't get claimed being that he would possibly leave your team 10 days later. Don't waste it on a pending ufa. That would be stupid. I agree on Sheahan and Kronwall though. Protect Riley instead. And protect marchenko, Nobody is going to pick a broken down Kronwall and if so, then good.

Helm will botch that line up. No hands, fumbles the puck to much.

You said it....Helm makes more than that. If that's not the narrative to the sad state of the team, then I don't know what else to say.

AA won't even be up unless it's an injury recall. Too many Helms... Now, a line of Mantha - AA - Vanek would be fun to watch!
